SAINTS, CRIMSON END IN 2-2 TIE

Cambridge, Mass.: The No.1 Saints Women’s Hockey team (8-0-1, 1-0-1) couldn’t hold off a late Harvard Crimson (3-1-2, 2-1-1) rally as the two teams battled to a 2-2 overtime tie in ECAC Hockey League play in Cambridge, Mass. Sunday afternoon. Freshman Alison Domenico led the Saints attack with two goals.

Harvard took an early 1-0 lead when senior forward Emilie Berlinguette was whistled for holding at 6:54 in the first period. Jenny Brine tucked home a centering pass from Katie Johnston on Harvard's first shot of the afternoon.

The Saints responded when Domenico knocked in a rebound of her own shot at the 9:55 mark, making it 1-1. Domenico gave the Saints a 2-1 lead with 13:07 left in the third period with her second goal of the afternoon as she knocked home a feed from Emilie Berlinguette.

Harvard threatened to tie it midway through the third period, but sophomore Meaghan Guckian made a pair of terrific saves -- a stand-up stop on Jennifer Raimondi’s bid, and a spectacular glove save on Johnston's follow-up.

Boe made a pair of tough saves on a St. Lawrence power play with seven minutes left, to keep Harvard in the game. The game-tying goal came when Harvard pulled Boe for the extra attacker and then a St. Lawrence penalty with 32 seconds left gave the Crimson a 6-on-4 advantage. Liza Solley scored from the left slot after Johnston was sent in on a feed from Jennifer Sifers. Guckian turned aside Johnston’s bid, but Solley tucked the rebound in at the 19:54 mark, sending the game to overtime.

Neither team was able to score the game-winning goal in the extra period, despite power play opportunities for both sides. Guckian finished with 25 saves, while Boe had 37 saves.

St. Lawrence returns to action on Friday, Nov. 18 when the Saints face off against the Quinnipiac Bobcats for the first time. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m. at the Northfield Ice Pavilion in Hamden, Conn.

SPECIAL TEAMS LEAD NO.1 SAINTS TO 3-0 WIN OVER NO.8 DARTMOUTH

Hanover, N.H.: The No.1 Saints Women’s Hockey team (8-0-0, 1-0-0) entered Saturday’s contest riding the best start in school history. St. Lawrence kept that streak going with a 3-0 shutout win over No.8 Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H., as the Saints opened ECAC Hockey League play. Special teams were the name of the game, as the Saints went 2-of-8 on the power play, and went 5-of-5 on the penalty kill.

After a scoreless first period, during which the Saints outscored the Big Green 17-6, the Saints lit up the scoreboard twice within 30 seconds. Freshman Marianna Locke scored her first career collegiate goal, when Emily Nerland went to the penalty box at 3:37 for hooking. Locke blasted the puck past Dartmouth netminder Kate Lane at 4:08 off assists from freshman Carson Duggan and sophomore Kerri Wallace. Thirty seconds later, junior Casey Hughes scored her second of the season with an assist from senior co-captain Tracy Muzerall.

Duggan scored her team-leading seventh goal and first power play goal of the season when Dartmouth was whistled for too many on the ice at 17:23. Duggan slammed home a pass from sophomore Annie Guay at 18:32 to close out the scoring. St. Lawrence outshot Dartmouth 21-8 in the period.

Senior Jessica Moffat held off a Dartmouth rally in the third period, as the Big Green outshot the Saints 10-3 in the final stanza. Moffat finished with 24 saves for her sixth win and second shutout of the season. Lane finished with 38 saves in the loss.

The Saints have posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since Jan. 22-28, when they blanked Union and Cornell. St. Lawrence has not surrendered a goal since 17:29 of the second period against Providence on Nov. 5. The Saints last shutout a ranked opponent on Feb. 11, 2005 at Appleton Arena, when they shutout then-No.3 Dartmouth 3-0.

St. Lawrence will face off against No.5 Harvard on Sunday at Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, Mass. The puck is set to drop at 2:00 p.m.
