SAINTS FINISH SIXTH IN VASSAR INVITATIONAL April 13: St. Lawrence University’s women’s golf team moved up one spot on Sunday and finished sixth in the 10-team Vassar College Invitational in Poughkeepsie to open the 2008 spring season.
Williams College won the tournament followed by St. Mary’s of Indiana and Middlebury. Williams had a two-day total of 685 with St. Mary’s six strokes back. The Saints had a 731 total for their best four scores over two rounds.
Only one player, medalist Haley Milbourn of Amherst, broke 80 in the two day tournament. Milbourn shot 83-77 for a 160 total.
Casey Lawton led the Saints with rounds of 89 and 90 for a 179 total, finishing tied for 24 th. Kristin Berretta was just two shots back with rounds of 89 and 92 for a 181 total in 26 th while Kim Sikule finished 30 th with rounds of 92 and 93 and Alair Muzzatti was 33 rd with two rounds of 93. Cait Cunningham was the fifth Saint player and shot 99 and 96 to finish 41 st.
The Saints will play in the Jack Leaman Classic at the University of Massachusetts next weekend.
