SAINTS RANKED 19 TH BY GOLFSTAT AFTER FALL SEASON

St. Lawrence University’s women’s golf team is ranked 19 th nationally after the fall portion of the 2006-07 season.

The Saints had five top four finishes among Division III schools in five fall events. They won the Larry Martin Invitational at Cortland, were second in the St. Lawrence and Middlebury Invitationals, third at the Williams Invitational and were seventh overall and third among Division III teams at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational.

Sophomore Kristin Berretta led the Saints in the fall with an 82.1 stroke average which included three rounds in the 70s while first year Alair Muzzatti was not far behind with a 83.0 stroke average and was the winner in a playoff at the Larry Martin Invitational for her first collegiate golf title.

Berretta and Muzzatti were joined in the Saint top five by senior Kim Sikule, sophomore Cait Cunningham and first year Casey Lawton.

SAINTS THIRD AT WILLIAMS

Oct. 7: St. Lawrence University’s women’s golf team concluded the fall portion of its schedule with a third place finish in the Williams Invitational on Sunday.

The Saints, who led after round one of the ten-team tournament, combined rounds of 331 and 337 for a 668 total, one stroke behind Division I Holy Cross, which was second at 667. Wellesley won the tournament title with rounds of 331 and 327 for a 659 total.

Kristen Berretta had her fifth top five finish of the fall season with rounds of 79 and 81 for a 160 total which was good for third. Tory McNeil of Elmira won the individual championship with a 151 total.

Alair Muzzatti tied for 13 th with rounds of 86 and 80 and a 166 total while Kim Sikule shot her collegiate best with an 80 in the opening round and finished at 170, tied for 20 th. Casey Lawton shot back to back rounds of 86 and was 26 th in a 57-player field with a 172 total and Cait Cunningham shot rounds of 91 and 96 for a 187 total.
