Nov. 3: Injuries and illness left the St. Lawrence University women’s cross country team with just enough runners to score as a team in Saturday’s NYSCTC Cross Country Championships at the Saratoga Spa State Park course, but the Saints placed three in the top ten and finished fourth in an outstanding showing.
Liz Ludovici finished second in 17:38, her best time and one of the top three finishes in Saint program history on the Saratoga Spa course, Wendy Pavlus was fourth in 17:55 and Johannah Ludington was seventh in 18:00 to help the Saints to their solid finish despite the lack of depth. All three runners made first team All NYSCTC with their top ten finishes and Pavlus was named NYSCTC Rookie of the Year.
Geneseo won the race with its five scorers all finishing in the top 11 for a total of 31 points while Ithaca was second with 88 points, Cortland third with 124 and the Saints fourth with 173, holding off Brockport which was fifth with 175 points in a 16-team field.
Ludovici trailed only Geneseo’s Liz Montgomery in the 142-finisher race. Montgomery won in 16:57 in the five kilometer event.
Joining Ludovici, Pavlus and Ludington in the scoring for the Saints were Hillary St. John, who was 94 th in 20:22 and Katrina Loignon, who was 96 th in 20:25.
The Saints will run in the NCAA Atlantic Regional at VanCortlandt Park in New York City next weekend.
