LUDOVICI’S SECOND PLACE FINISH PACES SAINTS AT SARATOGA INVITATIONAL Oct. 20: Graduate student Elizabeth Ludovici finished in second place overall on Saturday in the 2007 Saratoga Invitational hosted by Rensselaer. Ludovici raced in a time of 17:44.94 on the 5k course, while sophomore Johannah Ludington was only one spot back in third place overall with a time of 17:53.92. The duo’s times helped the Saints to 4th place overall in the 20 team event.
Ludovici finished just over 22 seconds behind Keene State’s Jennifer Adams, who won the race with a time of 17:22.19. Meanwhile, the Saints posted their third runner in the top-10 when rookie Wendy Pavlus crossed the finish line in a time of 18:08.58 for 8th place overall out of 223 competitors.
First year student Katrina Loignon was next for St. Lawrence with a time of 20:17.14 for 77th place overall, while Hillary St. John was two spots back in 79th position thanks to a time of 20:23.09. Also competing for the Saints on Saturday were junior Lyndsay Bisaccio (104th, 20:45.66) and rookie Chelsea McKenzie (173rd, 22:20.16).
Ithaca College won the 2007 Saratoga Invitational with a point total of 55, followed by Trinity (97), Keene State (145) and St. Lawrence (150).
The Scarlet and Brown will have next week off from competition before heading back to Saratoga for the 2007 NYSCTC Championships on November 3rd.
SAINTS SECOND IN HOFFMANN INVITATIONAL Oct. 6: The Saint trio of Liz Ludovici, Wendy Pavlus and Johannah Ludington finished in the top ten and the Saint women’s cross country team was second in a six-team field at the 2007 Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational on the SLU course on Saturday.
The Saints, who did not run sophomore Chelsea Nuffer, who is resting an injury, were second to Plattsburgh in the team scoring, one point ahead of the University of Ottawa. Plattsburgh won the meet with 27 points, the Saints were second with 67 followed by Ottawa with 68, Brockport with 72, Clarkson with 155 and SUNY Canton with 165.
Former Saint runner Amy Farrell was the individual champion as she led from start to finish with an impressive 52 second margin over Plattsburgh’s Toni Wiszowaty. Farrell, a tri-athlete and the track coach at Tupper Lake, ran 22:06, the second best time in the history of the six kilometer course.
Ludovici was the top Saint runner for the third straight race and had her third straight top five finish with a fifth place run of 23:30. Pavlus finished eighth in 23:41 while Ludington was ninth in 23:50.
Hillary St. John was the fourth St. Lawrence finisher in 26:28, 29 th overall and scoring 24 th while Lyndsey Bisaccio finished 31 st, scoring 26 th to complete the Saint team scoring.
Katrina Loignon was 34 th in 26:42 and Chelsea McKenzie finished 48 th in 28:13.
