THE PROGRAM

The 2005-06 season for the men's and women's crew teams marks their second full year in their new boathouse along the St. Lawrence River. The Saints, who enter their sixth intercollegiate season this year, have progressed steadily since their varsity debut in the fall of 1999.

Both the men's and women's teams will look to continue their mission to land among the top Division III college crew teams in the country. A strong showing in 2004-05 has put their name on the map. At the prestigious Head of Charles Regatta in October, the women’s varsity eight finished seventh among Division III schools. This success carried over to the spring where the varsity women enjoyed an undefeated regular season. The women's team had a great showing at the New York State Championships. The varsity eight finished first in the Petite Final, while the novice eight finished fourth in the Grand Final. Both boats were invited to the ECAC National Invitational.

In October, the men's varsity four finished fifth among Division III boats at the Head of Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. In the spring the entire men’s team was undefeated in the regular season with the men's varsity eight finishing second in the Petite Final of the New York State Championships, and the men's novice eight finished first in the Petite Final.

The Saints have sent annual competitors to the indoor crew championships in Boston and seek each year to complete their season in the New York State Championships and earn an invitation to the ECAC National Invitiational. Both the men's and women's teams compete in a split season, which includes a series of fall races and end of the year spring races, including state and national championships.

In 2003-04, the women's team received their first-ever invitation to row in the ECAC National Invitational Championships. The women's varsity four (Sara Rademacher, Jenn Faller, Freddie Yust, Anna Larsen, and coxswain Samantha Musella) finished sixth in the Grand Finals of the Women's Varsity Four Open, and the women's novice eight finished fifth in the New York State Championships.

With the addition of the new boathouse and two brand new Resolute racing shells, the Saints were set to host the 2005 Liberty League Championships. However, due to water and weather conditions, US Rowing officials cancelled the championships. St. Lawrence is scheduled to host again in 2007. Saint rowers train in the newly completed Newell Field House and fitness center, and benefit from practice on the nearby St. Lawrence River.
