SAINTS COMPETE AT HOBART WILLIAM SMITH CHALLENGE Oct. 16: St. Lawrence women’s crew sent both their varsity and novice teams to Geneva, NY this past Saturday and competed in the Hobart William Smith Challenge on the Seneca Canal.
The team had four varsity boats and one novice compete on the 4,000-meter course. The two women’s varsity 8 boats were the first to compete, placing 4 th and 5 th out of seven boats. The A boat, which clocked in at 18:07, consisted of senior Jane Conolly, sophomores Eloise Lachance and Corrie Mersereau, first-year Lizzie Stokes-Cawley, sophomore Erin Hussey, junior Karen Wilcox, senior Amanda Dudley, sophomore Amelia Lalley, and senior coxswain Renee Rubin.
The B boat had sophomore Heather Demers, first-year Amanda Blount, senior Kate Olsen, junior Jackie Costas, sophomores Briana Kehl and Amelia Bell, first-year Maddie Barnhard, senior Ann Seyse, and first-year coxswain Katrina Tamvakologos. The boat finished with a final time of 18:37.
The women’s novice four, who were competing in their first collegiate race, came in third out of four boats, finishing at 23:47. Rowers included first-years Lauren Reed, Stokes-Cawley, Meghan Koeller, Erin Panek, and coxswain Liz Luciano.
The last race of the day was the women’s varsity four, where the Saints entered two boats in the competition. The Saints’ A and B finished 5 th and 8 th respectively out of a nine boat field. The A boat had Connolly, Seyse, Dudley, Lalley, and coxswain Tamvakologos and finished with a time of 18:48.
The B boat, which finished with a 19:49, had Olsen, Lachance, Kehl, Bell and coxswain Rubin.
The team has entered one boat in the women’s collegiate eight race at the 43rd annual Head of the Charles Regatta and will travel to Boston, MA to compete in Sunday’s competition. |
