VARSITY, NOVICE COMPETE IN FINAL REGATTA OF SEASON Oct. 29: The St. Lawrence women’s crew team sent four boats to the 22nd annual Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY, where both the varsity and novice teams competed on the 3,500-meter course Sunday in their final race of the fall season.
The women’s varsity 8 boat placed 4th out of 12 boats in the women’s collegiate eight race with a time of 12:32.41. Rowers included sophomores, Jane Connolly, Eloise Lachance, and Briana Kehl, junior Jackie Costas, senior Kate Olsen, sophomore Amelia Bell, senior Amanda Dudley, sophomore Amelia Lalley, and senior coxswain Renee Rubin.
The women also had a junior varsity boat compete in the women’s collegiate JV-8 race, finishing fourth in a field of 8 boats with a time of 13:34.74. In the boat was sophomore Kate Roy, first years Amanda Blount and Maddie Barnhard, junior Karen Wilcox, sophomores Erin Hussey, Heather Demers, and Corrie Mersereau, senior Ann Seyse, and senior coxswain Caroline Hannigan.
In the novice races, the Saints placed 8 th out of 19 boats in the women’s collegiate novice 8 race with a time of 14:20.31. The boat consisted of first years Lauren Reed, Liz Luciano, Emily Blanchard, Allie Diehlmann, Meghan Koeller, Lizzie Stokes-Cawley, Erin Panek, Maggie Wiener, and coxswain Katrina Tamvakologos.
“This was the first time half of the women in the novice eight rowed in a race,” said Assistant Coach Tracy Tallman. “They did a good job of moving together and from what I could see at the end of the race, were getting their catches in nicely. It was a good ending point for the fall season and leaves us with a good bench marker to start with this coming spring.”
The novice four boat placed 12 th in the collegiate women’s novice four race with first years Amanda Blount, Gabby Clover, Weiner, Maddie Barnhard, and coxswain Luciano. They finished with a time of 17:14.65.
The Head of the Fish signals the end of the fall season for the crew team. The Saints will be back in action early in the spring of 2008.
