SAINTS IMPROVE IN 2004 The St. Lawrence University volleyball team made great strides under second-year head coach Anne Schneider. The Saints finished the season with a 13-21 record, posting the best record since the 1999 team that finished 13-20. St. Lawrence strung together three straight wins at the Red Dragon Classic, the first tournament of the season. Once again, youth abounded for the Saints, with just one senior and three juniors. Freshman Ali Boulanger became the Saints first Liberty League Rookie of the Year in more than five seasons. She earned League Rookie of the Week honors five times and was named to four all-tournament teams. She led the team with 434 kills and 347 digs in 34 matches and set the single-season record for attempts (1,180), single-season kills (434) and had the highest hitting percentage in a single season at .239. This season, the Saints posted more kills, more assists, and more digs than in 2003. Though they posted fewer total service aces than last season, the Saints averaged more service aces per game than in 2003. BOULANGER NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR Nov. 8: Freshman Ali Boulanger (left) earned Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors on Saturday. She led the Saints with 434 kills and 347 digs in 34 matches this season. Boulanger is the first rookie at St. Lawrence to earn league Rookie of the Year honors in more than five seasons. Boulanger earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors five times this fall. She also earned All-Tournament honors at the North Country Invitational, the SLU Tournament and the Oswego Invitational. Sophomore Jenni Sullivan was named to the Liberty League All-Tournament team for her play in the league tournament this past weekend. Sullivan had 32 kills, 43 digs and seven blocks in the tournament. Junior Eileen Svendsen, senior Kristin Ross, and sophomore Guinevere Seaward were named to the Libety League All-Academic Team. Svendsen, a West Chazy, N.Y. native, is majoring in biochemistry. Ross, an Altona, N.Y. native, is a biology major. Student-athletes must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be atleast a sophomore to earn all-academic honors. Seaward, a Oakville, Ontario native, is majoring in history. The Saints closed out their season at the Liberty League Tournament. St. Lawrence finished the season with a 13-21 record, recording 13 wins in a season for the first time since 2001. SAINTS DROP TWO AT DAY TWO OF LIBERTY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT Nov. 6: The Saints Volleyball team (13-21) dropped its final two matches of the season at day two of the Liberty League tournament. St. Lawrence fell to Union 3-0 in the early match and then lost to Clarkson 3-0 in the last match. The Dutchwomen won 30-24, 30-18, 30-21 in the match. Freshman Ali Boulanger had nine kills and nine digs. Jenni Sullivan 11 kills, eight digs, and four blocks. Senior Kristen Ross had 26 assists and 16 digs. In the second match the Golden Knights won 30-28, 30-22, 30-23. Boulanger had 15 kills and 12 digs. Sullivan added 10 kills and 17 digs. Ross added 32 assists and 14 digs. The Saints end the season with a 13-21 record for their first 13 win season since 2001. SAINTS DROP FIRST TWO AT LIBERTY LEAGUE TOURNAMENTS Nov. 5: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team (13-19) dropped first its two matches at the Liberty League Tournament hosted by Vassar College. St. Lawrence fell to Skidmore in three 30-16, 30-15, 30-19. The Saints then lost to Vassar in three sets 30-21, 30-17, 30-25 in their first match. Leading the way for the Saints against Skidmore was sophomore co-captain Lauren Waggoner with 11 digs. Freshman Ali Boulanger added five kills and nine digs. Sophomores Jenni Sullivan had seven kills and five digs and Clare Joscelyne added 13 assists. Against Vassar, the Saints were led by Waggoner with eight kills and 14 digs. Boulanger had seven kills, 13 digs, three service aces. Senior co-captain Kristin Ross added 22 assists and 10 digs. The Saints will finish off the season against Union at 1:00 p.m. and Clarkson at 3:00 p.m. to finish the Liberty League Tournament. SAINTS FALL TO POTSDAM 3-0 Oct. 27: The Saints volleyball team (13-16) fell 3-0 to the Potsdam Bears Wednesday night. (11-18). The Bears won 30-23, 30-18, 30-15 to sweep the match. For the Saints freshman Allie Boulanger had six kills and eight digs. Sophomore Jenni Sullivan had five kills and 10 digs and classmate Lauren Waggoner had 14 digs. The Saints return to action November 5-6 at the Liberty League Tournament, hosted by Vassar SAINTS FALL TO CLARKSON 0-3 Oct. 23: The St. Lawrence University Volleyball team fell to the Clarkson Golden Knights 3-0 this afternoon. With the loss, the Saints fall to 13-16 on the season. The Golden Knights improve to 20-9 overall. Clarkson won 30-28, 30-25, and 30-22. For the Saints, Freshman Allison Boulanger had 13 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Janina Sullivan added 9 kills and 9 digs. Sophomore Clare Joscelyne had 20 assists; and senior Kristen Ross added 15 assists for SLU.The Saints return to action for a non-conference match on Wednesday, October 27, at Potsdam State at 7:00 p.m. Oct. 19: The Saints volleyball team improved to 13-15 on the season with a 3-0 win over the Plattsburgh Cardinals Tuesday night. St. Lawrence is now 2-1 against Plattsburgh this season. The Saints won the first game in a tightly-contested match 30-28. In the second game, St. Lawrence battled back from deficits of 11-6 and 19-15 to win 30-24. The Saints then jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the third game before winning 30-22. Senior co-captain Kristen Ross led the Saints with 34 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore Jenny Sullivan posted 10 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Allie Boulanger had 14 kills and nine digs. Sophomore co-captain Lauren Waggoner added six kills, three service aces and 10 digs. The Saints return to action Saturday when the Clarkson Golden Knights visit Burkman Gymnasium for a 1:00 p.m. match. Oct. 18: Boulanger was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season. She earned all-tournament honors after her performance at the Oswego Invitational. For the weekend, Boulanger had 64 kills, 75 digs and five service aces. Against Hartwick, she posted 21 kills, 22 digs and hit for .373. Against Oswego, she posted a career-high 27 digs. SAINTS FALL AT OSWEGO INVITATIONAL Oct. 16: The Saints lost both of their matches in the final day of competition at the Oswego Invitational Saturday afternoon. St. Lawrence falls to 12-15 on the season. The Saints dropped their final match in round-robin competition, 3-0 to Clarkson. The Golden Knights won 31-29, 30-21, 30-25. Sophomore Lauren Waggoner led the Saints with 17 digs and four service aces. Freshman Allie Boulanger added 10 kills, 10 digs and one block. Sophomore Jenny Sullivan had five kills, six digs, one block and two service aces. Senior co-captain Kristen Ross added 25 assists and 13 digs. In the final match of the invitational, St. Lawrence lost to host Oswego 3-2. The Saints won the first game 30-23 then lost the second 12-30 and the third 26-30. St. Lawrence rebounded to win the fourth 30-21 but then lost in the fifth 12-15. Boulanger led the Saints with 17 kills and 27 digs. Ross added a season-high 52 assists and 23 digs. Freshman Tiffany Spoor added 10 kills and sophomore Jenny Sullivan had 10 kills and 17 digs. The Saints return to the court on Tuesday, October 19 when they host Plattsburgh at Burkman Gymnasium in Canton. SAINTS SPLIT AT OSWEGO INVITATIONAL Oct. 15: The Saints volleyball team (12-13) dropped their opening game 1-3 to Fredonia and then rebounded with a 3-1 win over Hartwick in the first day of competition at the Oswego Invitational. Fredonia took a two-game lead 30-19 and 30-23 before the Saints won the third game 30-24. Fredonia answered with a 30-25 win in the fourth game to take the match 3-1. Freshman Allie Boulanger led St. Lawrence with 16 kills and 16 digs. Freshmen Tami Couch added 12 kills and Tiffany Spoor had seven kills and 11 digs. In the second match, the Saints won the first two games 30-28, 30-24 before falling in the third 27-30 to Hartwick. St. Lawrence rebounded to win the fourth game 30-26 and the match 3-1. Sophomore co-captain Lauren Waggoner led the Saints with a career-high 28 digs. Boulanger added 21 kills and a career-high 22 digs. Sophomore Jenny Sullivan had a career-high 17 digs and 13 kills and senior co-captain Kristen Ross added 45 assists and 14 digs. The Saints will meet Clarkson at 10:00 Saturday morning in the final match in round-robin competition. BOULANGER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - AGAIN Oct. 11: Freshman Allie Boulanger earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season. She was named to the all-tournament team at the St. Lawrence Tournament this weekend. She led the Saints last week with 61 kills, 58 digs and 10 service aces. She had a season-high 20 kills in the match vs. D'Youville. CLARKSON WINS ST. LAWRENCE TOURNAMENT Oct. 9: The Clarkson Golden Knights swept both of its matches on Saturday to win the St. Lawrence Volleyball Tournament. Clarkson defeated D'Youville 3-0 (30-15, 30-11, 30-12) and the University of Scranton 3-0 (30-27, 30-27, 30-18) to win the tournament. The host Saints (11-12) split their matches, defeating D'Youville 3-2 (30-20, 30-25, 30-32, 24-30, 15-12) and then fell to Plattsburgh State 0-3 (22-30, 22-30, 26-30). Plattsburgh dropped its earlier match to Scranton 0-3 (22-30, 25-30, 16-30). Leading the way for the Saints against D'Youville were Allie Boulanger, Tami Couch, Clare Joscelyne and Jenny Sullivan. Boulanger had 20 kills, 14 digs and three service aces. Couch had 14 kills and five digs and Joscelyne added 44 assists and 10 digs. Sullivan had 18 digs and 15 kills. For the Spartans, Erin Applegarth had 17 kills, two assists, two blocks and eight digs. Kristi Jackson had three kills, 43 assists, two blocks and 15 digs. Caitlin Merna added 10 kills and five blocks. Against Plattsburgh State, Boulanger had 12 kills and nine digs. Joscelyne added 33 assists and 10 digs. Sullivan had two service aces, 11 digs and six kills. For the Cardinals, Kristin Steck had nine kills, four blocks and one dig. Rene Klementowksi added nine kills and two blocks and Melissa Luciano had 35 assists and 13 digs. Marta DeLong, Kim McManus and Cassie Dyer paced the Scranton Royals against Plattsburgh. DeLong had 13 kills, two blocks and 11 digs and Dyer added 38 assists and eight digs. McManus chipped in 10 kills, one assist, four blocks and two digs. For Plattsburgh, Maziarz had nine kills, two assists and five digs. Lauren Keogh added eight kills and eight digs and Luciano added 17 assists and six digs. Clarkson's Claire Horvath and Suzanne Clarvoe; Plattsburgh's Luciano; Scranton's Dyer and DeLong and for the Saints, Boulanger, were named to the all-tournament team. CLARKSON AND SCRANTON SWEEP IN DAY ONE OF SLU TOURNAMENT Oct. 8: Day one of the St. Lawrence Volleyball Tournament is complete. The host Saints dropped both of their matches and fell to 10-11 on the season. Clarkson and the University of Scranton both swept their matches. Plattsburgh State split its matches and D'Youville dropped both of its matches. In the first match of the day, St. Lawrence squared off against North Country neighbor Clarkson. The Golden Knights prevailed 3-0 in the match, winning 30-22, 30-19, and 30-19 over the Saints. Leading the way for St. Lawrence in the match was freshman Allie Boulanger. The Northport, N.Y. native had 12 kills and nine digs. Senior co-captain Kristen Ross had 13 assists and six digs. Sophomore Clare Joscelyne added 11 assists and two digs. Sophomore Jenny Sullivan had seven digs, one service ace, one assist and eight kills. In their second match, against the University of Scranton, the Saints fell 3-0 (13-30, 28-30, 22-30) to the Royals. Joscelyne paced St. Lawrence with 28 assists, four digs and two kills. Boulanger added eight kills, 11 digs, one assist and three service aces. Sophomore co-captain Lauren Waggoner added eight digs and one kill. Leading the way for the Royals were Marta DeLong, Katie McManus and Kim McManus. DeLong had 15 kills, two service aces and six digs. Katie McManus added five kills and seven digs and Kim had eight kills, three service aces, five digs and two blocks. The Saints will meet D'Youville at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning and then Plattsburgh State at 2:00 p.m. Plattsburgh State defeated D'Youville 3-1 in the second round of matches. The Cardinals won two straight games 30-17 and 30-18 before the Spartans responded to win the third game 30-28. Plattsburgh State answered with a 30-23 win in the fourth game. Leading the way for Plattsburgh were Jen Maziarz, Melissa Luciano, and Ashley Walters. Maziarz led with 20 kills, two assists and five digs. Luciano added seven kills, 31 assists, three blocks and 10 digs. Walters had eight kills, three assists, one block and 13 digs. Caitlin Merna, Kristi Jackson and Jael Wisnieski paced D'Youville. Merna had eight kills, four blocks and one dig. Jackson added four kills, 32 assists, one block and 13 digs. Wisnieski had 18 kills, one assist, one block and 11 digs. The University of Scranton swept D'Youville 3-0 (30-14, 30-22, 30-21) in the third round of games. Kim McManus, Katie McManus and Cassie Dyer paced the Royals. Kim McManus had 13 kills, four service aces and five digs. Katie McManus added eight digs, one assist and nine kills. Dyer chipped in 34 assists, one service ace and four digs. The Spartans were led by Jackson, Erin Applegarth and Christie Larrabee. Jackson had two kills, 14 assists and eight digs. Applegarth had nine kills and one dig and Larrabee added six kills and two digs. Clarkson swept Plattsburgh State 3-0 (30-18, 30-22, 30-28) in its second match. Maziarz led the Cardinals with 14 kills and nine digs. Kristin Steele had seven kills, one dig, one assist and one block. Lindsay Levi had nine digs and Luciano had 26 assists and five digs. Scranton 30 30 30 Plattsburgh 30 30 28 30 Clarkson 30 30 30 Scranton 30 30 30 SAINTS DROP TOUGH MATCH 3-1 TO POTSDAM Oct. 6: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team (10-9) dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Potsdam in the first match in the newly renovated Burkman Gymnasium. The Saints rebounded from a disappointing 30-25 loss in the first game to win the second game 30-18. Potsdam responded by winning the third and fourth games 30-23 and 30-20 to win the match. Leading the way for the Saints was freshman Allie Boulanger with 12 kills, 12 digs and four service aces. Sophomore Jenni Sullivan had 12 kills, 11 digs and two block assists. Senior co-captain Kristen Ross added 30 assists and six digs. Sophomore co-captain Lauren Waggoner had 18 digs and five service aces. The Saints return to the court this weekend when they host the 2004 St. Lawrence Tournament in Burkman Gymnasium. Competition begins on Friday afternoon with St. Lawrence taking on Clarkson at 4:00 p.m. Participating teams include Clarkson, the University of Scranton, D'Youville, and Plattsburgh State. SCHEDULE SET FOR SLU TOURNAMENT Oct. 6: The Saints volleyball team (10-8) is hosting the 2004 St.Lawrence Invitational on Friday and Saturday in newly renovated Burkman Gymnasium. Participating teams include: St. Lawrence, Clarkson, the University of Scranton, Plattsburgh State and D'Youville. The schedule is as follows: Saturday, October 9: BOULANGER NAMED LIBERTY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Sept. 27: For the third time this season, freshman Allison Boulanger was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week. The Northport, N.Y. native led the Saints to a 2-1 record this week with wins over Oswego State and Keene State. She posted 41 kills, 11 service aces and 24 digs in three matches for St. Lawrence. The Saints have an off week this week before hosting Potsdam State in newly renovated Burkman Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. SAINTS DEFEAT KEENE STATE, LOSE TO RUSSELL SAGE Sept. 25: The St. Lawrence volleyball team captured a win against Keene State in 3 games, but fell to Russell Sage in 4 at the Russell Sage Tri-Match. The Saints won the first match convincingly at 30-20, and sealed the win with 32-30, 31-29 scores. Allison Boulanger recorded 11 kills, 12 digs, and 4 aces. Lauren Waggoner notched 8 kills and 11 digs, while Janina Sullivan had 6 kills, 14 digs, and 2 blocks. SLU tried to mount a comeback, down 19-30, 19-30 in the first two matches, the Saints won the third set 30-28, but ultimately fell in the fourth match 20-30. Allison Boulanger made 12 kills and 9 digs, while Lauren Waggoner contributed 12 kills, 11 digs, and 3 aces. Tiffany Spoor recorded 8 kills, Janina Sullivan added 5 kills and 11 digs, and Kristen Ross notched 42 assists. The Saints, 10-8, will play Wednesday, October 6th at Potsdam at 7:00 p.m. SAINTS OUTLAST LAKERS IN 3-2 WIN Sept. 21: The St. Lawrence volleyball team improved to 9-7 on the season with an exciting 3-2 win at Oswego State Tuesday night. The Saints lost the first match 20-30 but rebounded to win the second 30-19. Oswego State answered by winning the third set 30-19. St. Lawrence responded by winning the fourth 30-27 and the fifth 15-12 to win the match 3-2. Allison Boulanger paced St. Lawrence as the freshman had 18 kills, while sophomore Lauren Waggoner had 15 kills, seven digs and six service aces. Senior setter Kristen Ross directed the Saint attack with 35 assists. Sophomore Janina Sullivan added nine digs, two blocks and junior Eileen Svendsen had nine digs. The Saints return to action on Saturday, September 25 at the Russell Sage Tri-Match. St.Lawrence will square off against host Russell Sage and then Keene State in the second match. SAINTS WIN FIRST, DROP SECOND AT SCRANTON INVITATIONAL Sept. 18: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team (8-7) won its first match 3-0 over DeSales in the first match of the morning. The Saints then lost to Stevens Institute of Technology 3-0 in the championship of the Purple Bracket. Freshman Allison Boulanger was named to the All-Tournament Team. In the first match, the Saints won in three 30-15, 31-29, 30-20. Freshman Tiffany Spoor led St.Lawrence with eight kills, three service aces, two blocks and five digs. Sophomore Janina Sullivan had five kills, 12 digs, three service aces and four blocks. Junior Eileen Svendsen had 10 digs and senior Kristen Ross had 24 assists. In the second match, Stevens Institute prevailed in three, 30-28, 30-28, 30-18. Boulanger had 15 kills, five digs and one block. Sophomore Lauren Waggoner had 12 kills, eight digs and one block. Sullivan had three kills, five digs and three blocks. The Saints return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Oswego for a 6:00 p.m. match. SAINTS SPLIT AT SCRANTON INVITATIONAL Sept. 17: The St. Lawrence volleyball team (7-6) opened play at the Scranton Invitational with a 3-2 win over Mount Alyosius. The Saints then fell to Dickinson in a second five set match 3-2. Against Mount Alyosius, the Saints fell in the first game 30-22, the rallied to win the next two 34-32 and 33-31. They stumbled in the fourth game, losing 30-25 but rebounded to win the fifth and final game 15-10. In the match, freshman Ali Boulanger had 21 kills and nine digs. Senior Kristen Ross had 46 assists, while sophomore Lauren Waggoner had four service aces, 12 digs, one block and 14 kills. Sophomore Janina Sullivan added eight digs, four service aces, two blocks and nine kills. Against Dickinson the two teams traded games with the Red Devils prevailing 3-2. St.Lawrence fell in the first game 30-23, but won the second 30-25. Dickinson rebounded to win the third 30-27 but lost the fourth to the Saints 31-29. The Red Devils won the fifth and final game 15-10. In the match, Waggoner led the Saints with 21 kills, 12 digs and two service aces. Boulanger had four service aces, one block, six digs and 13 kills. Ross added 43 assists and freshman Tiffany Spoor had eight kills, 12 digs, four blocks and four service aces. The Saints move into the Purple Bracket where they will face DeSales at 10:00. A win and St.Lawrence will play the winner of the Misericordia-Stevens Tech match at 4:00 p.m. A lose and the Saints will face the loser at 2:00 p.m. BOULANGER EARNS LIBERTY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS Sept. 13: Freshman Allison Boulanger earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors for the second week in a row. Boulanger earned All Tournament honors after leading the Saints with 66 kills, 60 digs and 12 service aces in the North Country Invitational. Against Plattsburgh in the final match, she had 21 kills on 34 attempts with 0 errors and hit .617. SAINTS DROP FINISH THIRD AT NORTH COUNTRY INVITATIONAL Sept. 11: The Saints volleyball team (6-5) fell to Middlebury 3-0 Saturday morning in the second day of the North Country Invitational. St. Lawrence then squared off with co-host Clarkson, falling 3-0. The Saints rebounded to defeat Plattsburgh 3-1 in the final match of the day and finish third in the tournament. Middlebury downed St. Lawrence 301-5, 30-26, 31-29. Leading the way for the Saints was freshman Allison Boulanger with 11 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Lauren Waggoner added six kills and 12 digs. Against the Golden Knights, the Saints fell 30-22, 30-27, 30-23. Boulanger had 10 kills and 11 digs, Waggoner added seven kills and seven digs. Junior Eileen Svendsen had 10 digs and senior Kristen Ross had 24 assists. St. Lawrence finished the invitational with a 3-1 win over Plattsburgh 30-26, 30-20, 25-30, 30-26. Boulanger had 21 kills, 10 digs, three service aces and two blocks. Ross had 38 assists and six digs and Svendsen had eight kills, 15 digs and 25 assists. Waggoner added 15 digs and two service aces. Boulanger led the Saints in the invitational with 66 kills, 56 digs and 10 service aces and was named to the all-tournament team. The Saints return to action on Friday, September 17 at the University of Scranton Invitational. SAINTS WIN TWO AT NORTH COUNTRY INVITATIONAL Sept. 10: The St. Lawrence University volleyball improved to 5-3 on the season with wins over Russell Sage and Potsdam at the North Country Invitational Friday night. The Saints started off with a 3-2 win over Russell Sage and then shutout Potsdam 3-0 in the second match of the evening. Against Russell Sage, the Saints won the first two 30-28, 30-26 before losing the next two 30-27, 30-24. St. Lawrence rebounded to win the final set 15-13. Freshman Allison Boulanger led the Saints with 18 kills, 14 digs and four service aces. Sophomore Lauren Waggoner had 15 kills, 19 digs and five service aces. Freshman Tiffany Spoor added six kills, 18 digs and three blocks. St. Lawrence shutout Potsdam 30-28, 30-21, 30-22 to win their second match. Waggoner had 13 kills, six digs, four service aces and one block. Boulanger added six kills, seven digs and three service aces. The Saints return to action tomorrow in the North Country Invitational against Middlebury at 10:00 a.m. SAINTS FALL AT CLARKSON 3-0 Sept. 7: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team (3-3) had its three-match win streak snapped Tuesday night in a 3-0 loss to the Clarkson Golden Knights. Trailing by three points late in the first game, the Golden Knights rallied to take home a 31-29 win in the opening game and then went on to win 30-25, 30-23. For the Saints Allison Boulanger had 13 kills, Lauren Waggoner had 10 kills and Jenni Sullivan had 6 kills. The Saints return to action this weekend when they travel to Clarkson for the North Country Invitational. BOULANGER EARNS LIBERTY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS Sept. 6: Freshman Allison Boulanger earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors after her performance in the Cortland Red Dragon Classic this weekend. She kicked off her rookie campaign with a bang, posting 67 kills, a .300 hitting percentage and adding 33 digs as the Saints posted a 3-2 record and winning the Silver Bracket of the Red Dragon Classic. SAINTS WIN SILVER BRACKET AT RED DRAGON CLASSIC Sept. 4: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team (3-2) rebounded from a disappointing Friday to win three matches and win the Silver Bracket at the Red Dragon Classic Saturday afternoon in Cortland. The Saints started off with a 3-1 win over Oswego to round out pool play. Oswego won the first match 30-28, but St.Lawrence responded to win the last three sets 30-22, 31-29 and 30-26. Allison Boulanger led the team with 16 kills and six digs. Lauren Waggoner added nine kills and nine digs. Eileen Svendsen chipped in six kills and 10 digs. Tiffany Spoor had 10 digs, six kills and two block assists. The Saints moved into the Silver Bracket where they faced off against Husson. St.Lawrence downed the Braves 3-0, winning 30-26, 30-16 and 34-32. Boulanger had 13 kills, eight digs and four service aces. Spoor had six kills, six digs, two blocks and four service aces. Janina Sullivan chipped in six kills, eight digs and two blocks. St. Lawrence faced Oswego in a rematch in the Silver Bracket Championship. The Saints prevailed again in a nail biter 3-2. St. Lawrence won the first set 30-24, but then lost the next two sets 30-24 and 30-27. The Saints regrouped to win the final two sets 30-22 and 22-20 after being down 12-4 in the final set. Boulanger led the Saints with 22 kills and six digs. Waggoner added 14 kills, 15 digs and nine service aces. Spoor had 11 kills and five digs and Svendsen had eight kills and five digs. The Saints will face the Clarkson Golden Knights in Potsdam, N.Y. on Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. The match was originally scheduled to be held on the St. Lawrence campus, but due to continuing renovations to Burkman Gymnasium, the match was moved. SAINTS DROP FIRST TWO MATCHES AT RED DRAGON CLASSIC Sept. 3: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team (0-2) opened its season at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic Friday night. The Saints dropped its first match to the host-Cortland 3-0. Cortland won 30-21, 30-21, and 30-13. In the match, freshman Allison Boulanger had five kills and sophomore co-captain Lauren Waggoner had six kills. In the second match of the evening, the Saints fell 3-1 to SUNY Geneseo. The Knights won the first set 30-14. St.Lawrence rebounded to win the second set 30-25, but fell in the next two sets 30-17 and 30-22. Boulanger had 11 kills and 10 digs. Waggoner had six kills and 11 digs. Junior Eileen Svendsen had a near perfect match with seven kills on eight attempts and nine digs. Senior co-captain Kristen Ross had 32 assists. In Saturday's action, the Saints will meet Oswego at 9:00 a.m. to finish up pool play before moving into the medal brackets. On Tuesday, the Saints match with Clarkson, originally scheduled to be held at St. Lawrence at 7:00 p.m. has been moved to Clarkson due to continuing renovations of Burkman Gymnasium. SAINTS SEASON OUTLOOK Sept. 1: The St. Lawrence volleyball team opens the 2004 season when they travel to Cortland for the annual Red Dragon Classic this weekend. Once again the Saints have a very tough schedule against some of the best teams in New York State and in addition, NCAA participant University of Scranton. Head Coach Anne Schneider will be looking to her six returning letterwinners to lead the Saints in 2004. Senior Kristen Ross, who took the 2003 season off because her commitment to the Air Force ROTC, returns to lead the Saints volleyball team as a co-captain and setter. Coach Schneider will also be seeking leadership from her captain sophomore, Lauren Waggoner. With six newcomers to the team and only one senior, the Saints are still a really young team. Coach Schneider and the Saints are looking to build on the success of last season with solid teamwork, communication and the addition of strong play of the newcomers. In particular, outside hitter Allison Boulanger and middle hitter Tiffany Spoor, should see significant playing time in their rookie campaigns. At the Red Dragon Classic this weekend, the Saints open the season against host Cortland at 2:00 p.m. in pool play. At 8:00, St.Lawrence will meet Geneseo and the Saints will complete pool play against Oswego at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Saints were scheduled to host rival Clarkson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7. However, due to renovations to Burkman Gymnasium, the match has been moved to Clarkson. St.Lawrence and Clarkson will meet in Burkman Gymnasium on Saturday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m. SOMERS JOINS SAINT VOLLEYBALL, TRACK STAFFS August 19: Lynsey Somers, an All Conference performer in both volleyball and track at Defiance College, has joined the St.Lawrence University coaching staff as assistant coach of volleyball and track and field. Somers, a 2004 graduate of Defiance, was named the Defiance College Distinguished Athlete Award winner for 2004. Team captain of the volleyball team, she helped the team to a 26-5 overall record as a senior. In track, she was a two time all-conference selection and the MVP of field events as a junior and senior. She holds the Defiance records in the triple jump and 400 hurdles and was part of a record-setting 4x400 relay team.
