SAINTS EARN NYSWCAA TOURNEY BID

Oct. 23: St. Lawrence University’s volleyball team will participate in the NYSWCAA Championship Tournament at New York University, making just the second appearance in the tournament this decade for a Saint team.

 

The Saints, 17-13 and seeded 12th, will play host and fifth-seed NYU in the first round at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Competition will continue through Sunday in the tournament.

 

 

SAINTS FINISH FOURTH AT SKIDMORE

Oct. 20: St. Lawrence University’s volleyball team played Skidmore for the top position in pool A at the Skidmore Invitational on Saturday after going 2-0 in day one competition at Saratoga Springs.

 

Skidmore won that match 3-0 and went on to win the tournament. The Saints played Clarkson in the third place match and lost 3-1.

 

Jessica Lucky earned another all tournament team spot with her play in the tournament. She had 53 kills, nine service aces and 76 digs in the tournament.

 

The Saints beat Hamilton College 3-2 in their first match and St. Michael’s 3-0 in match two on Friday and are now 17-13 on the season. The Saints, 13-7 in their last 20 matches, will host Potsdam on Tuesday

 

Lucky had 16 kills and 24 digs and Abby Rose had 41 assists and 19 digs in the Hamilton match. The Continentals opened the match with a 30-13 win in game one, but the Saints came right back and blitzed Hamilton by the same score in game two. Hamilton won game three 30-25, but the Saints took a 30-28 win in game four to force a tiebreaker, which SLU won 15-10.

 

The Saints won in three straight against St. Michael’s, 30-25, 30-26 and 30-27. Lucky had 10 kills and 15 digs, Rose had 30 assists, and 18 digs and Julia Congdon added eight kills and 20 digs in the win over SMC. Kelly O'Connecll added seven kills, three aces and three blocks.

 

Skidmore turned back the Saints 30-17, 30-25, 30-23 in the pool first place match. Lucky again had 10 kills and added 16 digs while Congdon had seven kills, two aces and 17 digs. Megan McNiven had 13 digs in two games in that match.

 

In the third place match with Clarkson, the Knights took a 2-0 match lead with 30-13 and 30-20 wins before the Saints came back to win match three 33-31. Clarkson won game four 30-17 to complete the match. Lucky had 17 kills and 21 digs while Tami Couch added 26 digs in the match. Rose had 38 assists and 13 digs to go with two blocks, while Natalie Kurtz added seven kills and two blocks.
