SAINTS CONTINUE VOLLEYBALL WIN STREAK Oct. 6: St. Lawrence University’s volleyball team ran its match win streak to five straight and has won nine of its last ten after sweeping SUNY Canton and Green Mountain College in matches at the Burkman Gymnasium on Saturday.
First year Abby Rose was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week after her outstanding performance in the two matches. It was the second straight rookie award for a Saint player as Jordyn Buzza was the league's top newcomer after her performance at Oswego.
The Saints won the first-ever head-to-head competition with neighboring SUNY Canton in Canton’s first year as a four-year program with 30-14, 30-15 and 30-21 game scores and then swept Green Mountain 30-20, 30-14 and 30-14 to improve to 13-7 on the season.
First year Abby Rose had nine kills with a .643 attack percentage, 24 assists, three service aces and 11 digs in the match against Canton. Jessica Lucy added ten kills and 12 digs while Julia Congdon had five kills and four service aces with Lara Gibbons adding four aces and nine digs.
Tami Couch had 12 kills and Kelly O’Connell ten in three games against Green Mountain while Rose had 35 assists and a SLU record 14 services aces to go with 12 digs. Gibbons added three assists and 17 digs.
The Saints will return to action at Clarkson on Tuesday.
