2007-2008: One of the leaders of the first-year class, Derby had an outstanding season, accumulating several top three finishes in dual meets throughout the year and also scoring points for St. Lawrence at both the Liberty League Championships as well as the NYSWCAA Championships.

In December, The Cropseyville, NY native showed the conference what she'd be able to do for the Saints, placing ninth overall in the 50 free and helping the 200 Free Relay to a second place finish in the conference. Derby also placed 12th in the 100 fly at the meet. In February, Derby had three career best swims at the NYSWCAA Championships, where she placed 22nd in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 fly. Each of the four relays she was on also scored points, with her 200 Free Relay placing 20th, while her other three relays, the 200 and 400 Medley Relay as well as the 400 Free Relay, each placed 21st overall.Derby also competes for the St. Lawrence Track and Field team in the spring.

Derby was a three sport athlete, competing in cross-country, swimming, and track and field. She was the All-Berkshire swimming champion in the 50 and 100 free in 2004 and 2005. She was Vice President of the National Honor Society and was a recipient of the National Scholar Student Recognition Award.
