![]() WOMEN, MEN DROP TIME AGAINST LEMOYNE Nov. 17: A number of St. Lawrence University swimmers had season best times on Saturday afternoon as the men’s and women’s swim team battled against NCAA Division II competitor LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY. In the end, both the men and the women lost,men lost 126-91, while the women lost 150-69.
First-year Hannah Grimes had the only individual first place finish for the women, taking the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:10.17, while teammate junior Devan Meserve took second. The event winner was also a member of the second place 200-yard medley relay team, who also included senior captain Kim Watcke, sophomore Abbey Lynch, and junior Ashley Bogosian.
Lynch clinched a pair of second place finishes for the Saints in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a 56.67 in the 100 and a 2:03.70 in the 200. The 200 was a season-best for the Norwood, NY native by over half a second. Lynch was also a member of the winning 200-yard free relay team, which also included Watcke, junior Meaghan Vaughn, and first year Megan Derby, who took second in the 100-yard fly with a 1:04.91.
In addition to her relay swims, Watcke posted a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and continued to add to the list of season best times accomplished against the Dolphins, posting a 1:04.19.
Junior Ashley Bogosian came in second in the 50 yard free, touching with a 26.31, closely followed by teammate Katy Kozminski who touched third at 26.48.
For the men, sophomores Robo Ibler and Stephen Dally tallied an individual win each. Ibler took first in the 100-yard freestyle with an in-season best of 49.50 just ahead of LeMoyne’s Sean Hosford, who touched second with a 49.76. He also took second in the 50-yard free with a time of 22.34.
Dally came in first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:04.60, also a season best, to lead the Saints to a 1-2-3 finish with first years Rob Sibley and Mike McPhillips taking second and third place points, respectively. Sibley’s time of 1:06.34 was a collegiate best time thus far.
Both Ibler and Dally were members of the second place 200-yard medley relay team, which also included junior captain Matt Feldman and junior Mike Trumbower. Trumbower took second place points in the 200-yard free with a 1:57.07 and third in the 100-yard free with a 53.00. Feldman took second in the 100-yard back with a time of 1:00.01.
The men’s 200-yard freestyle relay team also took first place, which included Feldman, senior Steve Walano, first year Mike McPhillips, and senior captain Dave Burnham. Both Burnham took second place points in the 1000-yard freestyle, just behind LeMoyne’s Jerry Dumary, finishing with a time of 11:03.54, a season best for the Wilton, CT native.
Sophomore Matt Kirkpatrick took three second place finishes in all of his individual races, which included the 200-yard IM, the 100-yard fly, and the 500-yard freestyle. First year Jared Pellerin had an impressive 500 free race, coming in right behind Kirkpatrick, touching at 5:23.33, a season best by a little less than six seconds.
The Saints, who are now both 3-3 in the season, will not compete until they travel to Union College for the 2007-2008 Liberty League Championships on Friday November 30th and Saturday, December 1st.
