![]() HARTWICK DEFEATS SAINTS Jan. 19: Junior Alida Gerritsen, sophomore Abbey Lynch, and first-year Rob Sibley each earned first place points in individual races and two Saints’ relays came out on top, but it wasn’t enough to give the St. Lawrence men’s and women’s swim teams a victory on Saturday afternoon, as Hartwick College defeated the Saints in Oneonta, NY.
The men lost to the Hawks, 143-62, while the women fell 118-77.
Gerritsen (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) won her second individual race of the weekend in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:34.84, followed by teammate Cassie Dudar (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex Regional), who came in second. Gerritsen also came in second in the 200-yard IM (2:20.97)
Lynch’s second win in the past two days came in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 56.23, more than a second and a half ahead of the next finisher.
Both Gerritsen and Lynch were members of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team, which also included senior captain Kim Watcke (Cheshire, CT/Sacred Heart Academy) and junior Ashley Bogosian (Massena, NY/Peddie), who touched two seconds ahead of Hartwick, finishing with a time of 1:56.18.
Watcke grabbed second place in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:17.07, while first-year Hannah Grimes (Hamden, CT/Hamden) came in third behind her (2:24.72). Grimes tallied second place points in the 200-yard free, finishing with a time of 2:05.50.
In the sprint races, Bogosian also in second in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 26.02. She was closely followed by teammate Katy Kozminski (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), who came in at 26.20, and earned a third place finish behind Lynch in the 100-yard free (57.97).
For the men, Sibley (Hudson, NH/Alvirne) took first place honors in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.50), followed by teammates sophomore Matt Kirkpatrick (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) and junior Chris Judge (Cranford, NJ/Cranford), who placed second and third, respectively.
First-year Jared Pellerin ( Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic) had a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:48.73, knocking off more than three seconds off his previous career best time, while senior co-captain Dave Burnham came in behind him in third with a time of 10:54.01, a career best by nearly nine seconds.
Burnham was also a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took first place points, along with co-captain Matt Feldman (Weston, MA/Weston), senior Steve Walano (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and sophomore Brandon Barone (Westport, CT/Staples).
The Saints, who are both now 4-4 in their dual meet season, will travel to Hamilton College next weekend for Liberty League action in the pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm. |
