 IBLER, WATCKE LEAD SAINTS AT RIT Nov. 11: Freshman Robo Ibler had a big day for the Saint men and junior Kim Watcke turned in another solid performance for the Saint women in dual swim meets at the Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday.
Ibler won the 50 and 100 free and was on the winning 200 medley relay team for the Saint men, who lost 144-92 in a highly competitive meet. Watcke won the 200 free and 200 back for the Saint women, who lost 131-96 in another tight competition.
Ibler was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week for his performances Friday and Saturday and Jason Johnson shared Diver of the Week honors.
Ibler joined Chris Woolston, Stephen Dally and Matt Feldman on the winning 200 medley relay team as they combined for a time of 1:44.43. He then won the 50 free in 22.62 and the 100 in 50.32 to complete a solid weekend of competition.
Woolston had the other individual victory for the Saint men as he won the 200 back in 2:02.77 and added a second in the 200 free. Other top finishes for the Saint men include seconds in the 200 fly in 2:11.73 and the 500 free in 5:13.71 by Matt Kirkpatrick, a second in 10:58.78 by Mike Trumbower in the 1000 free and seconds from diver Jason Johnson on both the one and three meter boards.
Watcke won the 200 free in 2:05.59 and the 200 back in 2:18.57 to complete a strong weekend performance. The other Saint victories came from Alida Gerritsen, who won the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.12 with Kate Farrell second and from the 200 free relay tam of Katie Waters, Devon Meserve, Meaghan Vaughn and Gerritsen, which won in 1:50.33.
Other top finishes included a second in 12:15 in the 1000 free by Megan Bernier, a second in the 50 free in 26.00 by Ashley Bogosian, second by Farrell in the 200 IM in 2:23.40, a second by Abby Lynch in the 100 free in 56.97 and seconds from Meserve in both the 200 fly in 2:24.88 and the 500 free in 5:49.06. The Saints will return to dual meet action at home next Saturday when they host Division II LeMoyne.
