![]() HARTWICK SWEEPS SAINTS Jan 20: The Saints men's and women's swimming and diving team could not complete the weekend sweep of Potsdam and Hartwick, as both teams fell to the Hawks Saturday afternoon in Canton, N.Y. The men's team fell 139-97 while the women were defeated 144-93.
The men's team was led by freshmen Chris Woolston and Robo Ibler, both two time winners for the St. Lawrence. Woolston took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.82 and first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.28. Ibler, dominated the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.95 and also won the 100 free with a time of 50.57, defeating the closest competitor by a full second.
The women's team was led by sophomore Ashley Bogosian and junior Kim Watcke. Bogosian earned the Saints a victory in the 100 yard freestyle with an impressive time of 57.13. The closest competitor, Devon Fuller of Hartwick finished with a time of 58.64. Bogosian also swam a 26.10 50 yard freestyle, earning her second place behind her teammate, freshman Abby Lynch.
Watcke sewed up a victory in her speciality, the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.54. The Saints junior also placed second in the 200 yard free with a time of 2:05.94.
The Saints women's team also dominated the 100 yard breaststroke, taking the top two spots. Senior Kate Farrell won the event with a time of 1:11.86 while her teammate, sophomore Alida Gerritsen, placed second with a time of 1:15.21. The women's 200 yard medley relay team of Watcke, Farrell, Lynch and Bogosian convincingly won the event with a time of 1:56.47.
In the diving competition, sophomores Jason Johnson and Eric Velasquez took the top two spots in the 1 meter dive with scores of 203.15 and 172.15 respectively. Johnson and Velasquez also finished in the one-two spots in the three meter event.
The Saints will be back in the pool next Saturday, Jan. 27 when they will host the Alfred Saxons at 1 p.m. in the Augsbury Natatorium in Canton, N.Y. |
