SAINT MEN PUSH LEMOYNE TO FINAL RACE;

WATKE, BOGOSIAN, FARRELL LEAD WOMEN

Nov. 18: A young St. Lawrence University men’s swim team took Division II LeMoyne to the final relay before the Dolphins pulled out a narrow 133-106 win while a trio of Saint women had outstanding afternoons in a 136.5-89.5 loss to the Dolphins.

 

Saint rookie Matt Kirkpatrick won both the 500 and 1000 freestyle races and was second in the 200 IM to lead the Saints while freshman Chris Woolston won the 200 free and was second in the 100 back, diver Jason Johnson, a sophomore who is diving for the Saints for the first time swept the one and three meter boards and freshman Robo Ibler was second in both the 50 free and 100 fly as the Saints had their closest meet with the Dolphins in several years.

 

Junior Kim Watcke won the 100 back and was second in the 200 free in addition to swimming on the second place 200 medley relay team while Bogosian won the 100 free, was third in the 50 free and swam on the medley relay and Farrell won the 100 breast, was third in the 200 IM and was also on the medley relay team. The fourth member of the 200 medley relay team, freshman Abby Lynch, was third in the 100 fly and led off the winning 200 free relay team.

 

Kirkpatrick won the 1000 in 10:43.66, winning by nearly six seconds and edged sophomore teammate Mike Trumbower by just under four seconds with a time of 5:16.29 in the 500 free. Trumbower finished third in the 1000 free. Kirkpatrick swam 2:11.12 in the 200 IM. Woolston won the 200 free with a time of 1:50.76 and was second in the 100 back in 56.28 and Johnson won the one meter competition with 174.75 points and the three meter with 256.68. Eric Velasquez was second in both diving events.

 

Ibler was 22.57 in the 50 free and 57.64 in the 100 fly while Stephen Dally was second in the 200 breast and third in the 200 IM and Matt Feldman added a third in the 100 free.

 

Watcke won by three-tenths of a second in the 100 back, swimming 1:03.47 with Sarah Casey of LeMoyne second in 1:03.72. She was also in a tight finish in the 200 free, finishing second in 2:05.25 to Jessica Johnston of LeMoyne who won by .45. Bogosian won the 100 free in 57.76 with teammate Meg Vaughn second while Farrell won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.54 with teammate Alida Gerritsen second, just .04 behind. The 200 free relay team of Lynch, Kim Myers, Ashley McCarthy and Vaughn won in 1:48.53.

 

Other top three finishes for the Saints included a third by Megan Meserve in the 1000 free, a third by Katie Waters in the 500 free and a third in the 100 breaststroke by Lindsay Belt.

 

The Saints will swim in the Liberty League Championships Dec. 2-3 to complete first semester competition.
