2004-2005 ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY Meet Results CAVALLERANO, WATCKE FINISHED STRONG AT NYSWCAA Feb. 19: Joann Cavallerano won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:09.00. She finished in 3rd place overall in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:53.74. The first place time was clocked to a Nazareth swimmer at 17:47.65. She then finished 2nd in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.86. Kim Watcke finished in 3rd place overall in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:14.94. Nazareth pulled in the winning time of 2:07.07. In the 100 yard backstroke, Watcke finished in 3rd place with a time of 1:01.71. SLU placed 6th in the 400 medley.Watcke, Cavallerano, Kate Farrell, and Maureen Hummel pulled in a time of 4:13.99. St. Lawrence placed 8th in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:51.53. Hummel, Kate Farrell, Ashley McCarthy, and Cavallerano finished just 12 seconds behind first place LeMoyne. The 200 freestyle relay found Hummel, Jamie Aiken, McCarthy, and Watcke in 10th place overall with a time of 1:44.61. CAVALLERANO, WATCKE LEAD SAINTS AT DAY TWO OF NYSWCAA Feb. 18: Senior Joanne Cavallerano followed up her win in the 500 Free Thursday, with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Friday. Freshman Kim Watcke took home a third-place finish in the 100 Back. Cavallerano finished in 1:57.86 for second place behind Nazareth’s Amy Mehltretter. Watcke finished third in the 100 Back with a time of 1:01.71, beating her career best of 1:03.14. Ithaca’s Kelly Turpin took first in the event. The Saints 800 Free Relay team took 10 th overall and second in the B Final with a time of 8:36.00. This beat their best time of the season by over 11 seconds. Sophomore Kate Farrell, freshmen Emily Gulickson and Kim Myers, and Cavallerano swam the relay. The 200 Medley Relay team also took 10 th overall and second in the B Final with a time of 1:56.82. Watcke, Farrell, freshmen Jamie Aiken and Maureen Hummel swam that relay. Aiken took 12 th overall and fourth in the B Final of the 100 Fly with a time of 1:04.15. Junior Kazumi Noyama placed 12 th overall and 3 rd in the B Final of the 100 Breast with a time of 1:12.98. Close behind was Farrell in 14 th overall with a time of 1:13.21. The Saints return to the pool Saturday as the NYSWCAA Championships continue in Syracuse, N.Y. CAVALLERANO FIRST; SAINTS 10 TH AFTER DAY ONE OF NYSWCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS Feb. 18: After finishing second in the preliminaries in the 500 Free, senior Joanne Cavallerano took first place in the final at the NYSWCAA Championships Thursday night. The Saints Women’s Swimming and Diving Team finished the day in 10 th place with 143 points. Cavallerano beat her preliminary time of 5:12.59, by finishing the final in 5:09.00. It was her best time of the season by over 10 seconds. The 400 Medley Relay team took a sixth place finish in the final with a time of 4:13.99. Freshman Kim Watcke, sophomore Kate Farrell, Cavallerano, and freshman Maureen Hummel swam the relay, beating their best time of 4:21.19. The 200 Free Relay team finished second in the B Final and 10 th overall with a time of 1:44.61. Hummel, freshman Jamie Aiken, sophomore Ashley McCarthy and Watcke swam the relay, beating their best time of 1:46.89. Farrell placed second in the C Final of the 200 IM and 18 th overall in 2:22.45. Watcke also swam the 50 Free, placing fifth in the B Final, and 13 th overall. Her time of 25.82 beat her career best of 26.02. CAVALLERANO, MURRAY EARN LIBERTY LEAGUE HONORS Jan. 31: Seniors Joanne Cavallerano and Mike Murray earned Swimmer of the Week honors from the Liberty League Monday afternoon. This is the third time this season each that Cavallerano and Murray have been recognized by the league. Cavallerano was named the Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week. In her final meet at home, senior Joanne Cavallerano too home three first-place finishes. She took first for the women in the 1650 Free with a time of 18:30.78, beating Alfred's Danielle Sandy by 59 seconds. She also took home first place in the 200 Free and the 500 Free. She finished in the 200 with a time of 2:04.1 and the 500 in 5:25.91. Murray was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week. In his final meet at home Murray had a career best day with his swim in the 1650 Free. Murray took first place in the event with a time of 16:55.69, besting his career time of 17:08.28. He beat Alfred's Brandon Striker by nearly 42 seconds. Murray took home first in the 100 Free, finishing in 49.04, his best time this season. He placed first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:58.40. SAINT WOMEN DOWN ALFRED; MEN FALL TO SAXONS Jan. 29: The Saints Women’s Swimming and Diving Team held off the Alfred Saxons with a 132-111 win Saturday afternoon. The men were not able to do the same in a 162-74 loss. In their final meet at home, seniors Mike Murray and Joanne Cavallerano each took home three first place finishes. Murray had a career best day with his swim in the 1650 Free. Murray took first place in the event with a time of 16:55.69, besting his career time of 17:08.28. He beat Alfred’s Brandon Striker by nearly 42 seconds. Murray took home first in the 100 Free, finishing in 49.04, his best time this season. He placed first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:58.40. Freshman Chris Giovino won the 50 Free, finishing in 23.46, just beating Alfred’s Kevin Martin at 23.57. Senior Joe Jablonski took second in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:35.26. He placed third in the 100 Breast, finishing in 1:07.34. Senior Joanne Cavallerano took first for the women in the 1650 Free with a time of 18:30.78. She also took home first place in the 200 Free and the 500 Free. She finished in the 200 with a time of 2:04.1 and the 500 in 5:25.91. Freshman Kim Watcke took first in the 50 Free, finishing in 26.54, with classmate Maureen Hummel taking second in a time of 26.73. Hummel won the 100 Free with a time of 57.76. Sophomore Kate Farrell took home two first place finishes, in the 400 IM and the 100 Breast. In the 400 IM, Farrell caught Alfred’s Lindsay Scypta in the final 25 meters to take first in 5:09.32. She won the 100 Breast with a time of 1:14.39. Teammate Kazumi Noyama took second in 1:15.65. Freshman Jamie Aiken took home another first place finish for the Saints, this time in the 100 Fly, with a time of 1:05.43. Junior Kate Riley finished in third in the same event with a time of 1:09.98. The 400 Medley Relay took first in a time of 4:21.77. Swimming the relay were Watcke, Farrell, Aiken, and Hummel. The Saint women will travel to Syracuse for the NYS Championships on Feb. 16-19. The men will compete in the NYS Championships on Feb. 23-26. FIVE SAINTS EARN LIBERTY LEAGUE ACADEMIC HONORS Jan. 26: Five members of the Saints Swimming and Diving team earned Liberty League All-Academic honors this week. The Saints return to action when they host the Alfred Saxons on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Senior Joanne Cavallerano is a Geology major from Sudbury, Mass. Junior Sarah Latchney is a Biology major from Victor, N.Y. Sophomore Jason Britt is undeclared and is from Tyngsboro, Mass. Junior Brian Wasserstein is a Biology major from Delmary, N.Y. Senior Joe Jablonski, a Chemistry major, is from Rochester, N.Y. GIOVINO, CAVALLERANO, WATCKE EARN LIBERTY LEAGUE HONORS Jan. 25: Freshman Chris Giovino was named the Liberty League Men's Rookie of the Week. Senior Joanne Cavallerano was named the Liberty League Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week and freshman Kim Watcke was named the Co-Rookie of the Week. Against Hartwick on Saturday, Giovino placed third in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:12.55. At Potsdam on Friday, Giovino placed first in the 50 Free with a time of 23.56, just besting teammate Alex Humphries at 23.96. He also swam on the 200 Medley Relay team which took first with a time of 1:52.36 on Friday. Against Potsdam and Hartwick this weekend, the Saints were led by Cavallerano with five first place finishes. Against Hartwick on Saturday, Cavallerano took first place in the 1000, 500 and 200 free. She won the 200 butterfly and 500 free on Friday at Potsdam. Watcke posted three first place finishes. Against Hartwick on Saturday she took first in the 50 Free, finishing in 26.79. Watcke also won the 200 Back, finishing in 2:17.73, beating her career best time of 2:18.92. Watcke swam the first leg of the 400 Medley Realy that took first with a time of 4:21.01. On Friday at Potsdam, Watcke took home first in the 100 Free with a time of 57.38. She also swam the first leg of the 200 Medley Relay team that took first place in a time of 2:02.13. WOMEN WIN SECOND STRAIGHT, MEN FALL TO HARTWICK Jan. 22: The Saints Women’s Swimming and Diving team won its second straight meet as they defeated Hartwick 121-116 Saturday afternoon. The Saint men fell to Hartwick 148-80. The Saints were led by senior Joanne Cavallerano with three first place finishes on the day and five on the weekend. Cavallerano took first place in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:58.08, besting Hartwick’s Ali Gray by over 40 seconds. She also took first in the 200 Free with a time of 2:00.04 and the 500 Free with a time of 5:21.18. Freshman Maureen Hummel finished third in the 200 Free with a time of 2:08.32. She also took second in the 100 Free with a time of 58.52. Freshman Kim Watcke took first in the 50 Free, finishing in 26.79 and sophomore Ashley McCarthy took third in the same event with a time of 27.16. Watcke also won the 200 Back, finishing in 2:17.73, beating her career best time of 2:18.92. Freshman Kim Myers took third in the same event with a time of 2:26.27. Sophomore Kate Farrell finished in second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.46 and second in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:44.52. Freshman Jamie Aiken took second in the 200 Fly, finishing in 2:31.91. Freshman Merrill Stabler placed second in the 1 M Dive, with 179.90 points and freshman Lindsay Muetterties took third with 162.20 points. Muetterties took second in the 3 M Dive with 139.40 points while Stabler took third with 136.80 points. On the men’s side, senior Joe Jablonski took second in the 1000 Free, finishing in 10:53.50. Senior Mike Murray took home first in the 200 Free, with a time of 1:47.99. He also took first in the 100 Free, coming in at 49.40. Murray placed second in the 500 Free, finishing in 4:58.05. Freshman Chris Giovino placed third in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:12.55. Junior Tim Akers placed third in the 200 Back with a time of 2:15.16. The Saint men then swept the 200 Breast. Jablonski won the event with a time of 2:28.40. Akers was next up in second at 2:41.23, followed by sophomore Jason Britt in third at 2:44.27. The 400 Free Relay team took first in 3:47.06. Freshman Alex Humphries, Drew Crawford, Steve Walano and Britt swam the relay. Freshman Rob LaMere took third in both the 1 M and 3 M dives. The Saints return to action on January 29 as they host the Alfred Saxons in Canton, N.Y. SAINTS DOWN POTSDAM TO Jan. 21: In their first meet of the new year, the Saints Swimming and Diving team defeated the Potsdam Bears in nearby Potsdam, N.Y. Friday afternoon. The Saint men earned a solid 102-56 win and the Saint women came away with a 113-106 win. The Saint women earned eight first-place finishes, led by senior Joanne Cavallerano with two first-place swims. Cavallerano took first place in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:17.34, beating Shannon Neild of Potsdam by nearly 17 seconds. She also took home first in the 500 Free with a time of 5:24.50, 26 seconds faster than the Bears’ Jocelyn LaCombe. Freshman Emily Gulickson swam to a first-place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:51.85. Sophomore Megan Bernier finished third with a time of 12:08.32, surpassing her career best time of 12:23.44. Sophomore Becca Roy placed fourth in the 1000 Free in 12:39.98. Freshman Maureen Hummel took first in the 200 Free with a time of 2:07.09, besting her career time of 2:10.35. Junior Kate Riley took third with a time of 2:15.38. Sophomore Ashley McCarthy finished in second in the 50 Free with a time of 27.30 and freshman Jamie Aiken took third in a time of 27.53. Aiken beat her career best time of 27.72. Sophomore Kate Farrell took home a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.45, just beating her career best of 2:23.78. Riley finished fourth in the same event with a time of 2:36.88. Farrell placed second in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:44.72. Freshman Kim Watcke took home first in the 100 Free with a time of 57.38. Hummel came in right behind at 58.22. On the men’s side, the Saints took home seven first place finishes, led by senior Mike Murray with two wins. Murray took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.28. He also won the 200 Back in 2:09.52. Freshman Jason Burch took home first in the 1000 Free in a time of 11:19.01. Freshman Chris Giovino placed first in the 50 Free with a time of 23.56, just besting teammate Alex Humphries at 23.96. Junior Tim Akers placed first in the 100 Free with a finish of 53.05, surpassing his career best of 53.34. Freshman Rob LaMere placed first in the 1 M dive with a final score of 124. The Saints 200 Medley Relay teams swept the event for the men and the women. The women’s 200 Medley Relay team of Watcke, Farrell, Aiken, and McCarthy, took a first place finish in a time of 2:02.13. The men’s team of Akers, Jason Britt, Giovino, and Humphries, took first with a time of 1:52.36. The Saints host the Hartwick Hawks on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Canton, N.Y. SAINT MEN FINISH FIFTH; SAINT WOMEN FINISH SEVENTH AT LIBERTY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Senior Mike Murray was the Saint men’s top finisher. In the morning events, Murray finished second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.08. He finished behind Union’s Elliot Seguin in 1:43.85. Murray also took home an eighth place finish in the 100 Free in 49.16 in the afternoon session. Sophomore Brian Wasserstein took home a fifth place finish in the 200 Back in a time of 2:08.00. Wasserstein also had two top-10 finishes in the morning sessions. He finished eighth in the 400 IM in 4:37.61 and ninth in the 100 Back in 58.50. The top relay teams for the Saint men were the 400 Free Relay “A” and “B”. The “A” team of junior Tim Akers, Wasserstein, senior Joe Jablonski, and Murray took fifth in the 400 Free Relay “A” relay in 3:26.49. The “B” team of freshmen Matt DeSantis, Drew Crawford, Chris Giovino, and Steve Walano took fifth in the 400 Free Relay “B” relay in a time of 3:42.85. Freshman Kim Watcke was the top finisher for the Saint women in the morning session. Watcke took home a second place finish in the 100 Back in a time of 1:03.14. She finished behind Hamilton’s Suzie Wilson, who set a new Liberty League Championship record in 1:00.84. Watcke also took home a third place finish in the 200 Breast in the afternoon. She finished in 2:18.92. Senior Joanne Cavallerano took home to top-five finishes on Saturday. She finished fourth in the 1650 Free in 19:03.95. She finished fifth in the 200 Fly in 2:16.19. The top relay team for the Saints was the 400 Free Relay “B” team. The team, comprised of freshman Jamie Aiken, junior Kate Riley, sophomore Becca Roy, and freshman Katie Alexander, finished seventh in the 400 Free Relay “B” relay in a time of 4:15.12. The Saints will travel to Puerto Rico in January for their annual training trip before returning to action against Potsdam on January 21, 2005. MEN IN FIFTH, WOMEN IN SEVENTH AFTER DAY ONE AT LIBERTY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS Dec. 3: After the first day of competition at the Liberty League Championships hosted by Hamilton College, the Saints men’s swimming and diving team is in fifth place with 117 points. The Saints women’s team is in seventh with 94 points. Host Hamilton is in first place with 240 points for the men and 256 points for the women. Senior Mike Murray was the top finished for the Saints Friday afternoon. He won the 500 Free in a time of 4:50.05. Murray beat Rochester’s Craig Matt by who finished in 4:52.48. Murray also finished fourth in the 50 Free in a time of 22.42. The 200 Free Relay team was the top relay team for the Saints in the pool. The freshmen relay team of Jasper Burch, Dave Burnham, Geoff Walano and Stephen Walano finished in fourth in a time of 1:37.81. For the women, senior Joanne Cavallerano was the Saints top finisher. Cavallerano took second place in the 500 Free in a time of 5:19.19. Danielle Scherry of Rochester took first place in 5:17.65. The top relay teams for the women on Friday were both 400 Medley Relay teams. Team “A”, comprised of freshman Kim Watcke, sophomore Kate Farrell, Cavallerano, and freshman Maureen Hummel finished fifth in the 400 Medley Relay A relay. The team finished in 4:21.19. Team “B”, comprised of junior Kate Riley, junior Kazumi Nayama, freshman Jamie Aiken, and sophomore Ashley McCarthy took fifth place in the 400 Medley Relay “B” relay. The team finished in 4:37.70. Competition will resume Saturday morning at 9:00 at Hamilton College. LEMOYNE TOPS SAINT SWIMMERS IN DUAL MEETS Nov. 20: Mike Murray won both distance freestyle events and Joe Jablonski won the 200 individual medley and Joanne Cavallerano won the 200 fly and was second in both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle, but Division II LeMoyne College dominated the meets as the Dolphins swept the St. Lawrence University swim teams at SLU on Saturday. The LeMoyne men won 156-73 while the LeMoyne women won 176-55. Murray won the 1000 free in 10:18.59 and the 500 free in 4:56.34 while Jablonski was timed in 2:10.15 in winning the 200 IM. Jablonski also added a second in the 200 fly in 2:14.44. Cavallerano won the 200 fly in 2:19.11, was second in the 1000 in 11:03.69 and second in the 500 free in 5:27.27. Kate Farrell added a second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:46.42 and was third in the 200 IMfor the Saint women while Kim Watcke was third in both the 50 and 100 free and Jamie Akien added a third in the 200 back for the Siant women. Chris Giovino was second in the 50 free in 23.21 and third in the 100 free, Jason Britt was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:41.00 and Tim Akers was third in both the 200 free and 200 back for other top three finishes for the Saint men. The Saint swimmers will return to action at the Liberty League Championships at Hamilton Dec. 3-4. FOUR SAINTS EARN LIBERTY LEAGUE WEEKLY HONORS Nov. 15: Seniors Mike Murray and Joanne Cavallerano and freshman Jasper Burch and Kim Watcke earned Liberty League weekly honors on Monday afternoon. Murray was named the Men's Liberty League Swimmer of the Week. At Rochester, Murray took home two first place finishes. He won the 200 Free in 1:48.21 and the 100 Free in 49.65. At RIT, he took home two more first place finishes. He won the 100 Free in 49.46 and the 500 Free in 5:09.82, beating the second-place finisher by nearly 16 seconds. Cavallerano earned the Women's Liberty League Co-Swimmer of the Week honors. She took home four first place finishes this past weekend. At Rochester she won the 1000 Free in 10:57.53 and also won the 500 Free in 5:23.80. At RIT, she won the same two events. She won the 1000 Free in 11:08.20, besting the second place finisher by 1:15.13. She also won the 500 Free in 5:36.31, beating the second-place finisher by 21 seconds. Burch earned the Men's Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week honors. He swam on two winning relay teams this past weekend. At Rochester, the anchored the 200 Medley Relay team that finished first in 1:49.18. He finished second in the 50 Free in 24.04. At RIT, he swam the third leg of the 200 Free Relay team which won in 1:35.90. He anchored the 200 Medley relay team that finished second in 1:48.41 and he finished third in the 50 Free in 24.03. Watcke was named the Women's Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week. She anchored two winning relay teams this weekend and won two individual events. At Rochester, she anchored the 200 Free Relay team that finished first in 1:50.51. At RIT, Watcke anchored the 200 Medley Relay team that won in 1:59.64. She also won the 50 Free in 26.34 and the 100 Breast in 1:04.30 at RIT. SAINT WOMEN EDGED BY RIT 117-110; SAINT MEN DOWNED BY RIT 138-84 Nov. 13: The St. Lawrence women’s swimming and diving team was edged by RIT Saturday afternoon 117-110. The Saint men’s team lost 138-84 to the RIT Tigers. The RIT women’s swimming and diving team won on the final event of the meet, the 200 freestyle relay, to pull ahead of the Saints 117-110. The Saint women opened with a win in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:59.64. Kate Riley, Kate Farrell, Jamie Aiken and Kim Watcke swam the relay for St. Lawrence. Senior Joanna Cavallerano followed up with a first-place finish in the 1000 Free, her second straight, in a time of 11:08.20. She beat the second-place finisher by 1:15.13. The Saints swept the top three places in the 50 Free, with Watcke finishing first in 26.34. Maureen Hummel came in second at 26.76 and Kim Myers finished in third at 27.61. Aiken won the 100 Fly in 1:06.83 and Watcke won the 100 Back in 1:04.30 for her second win of the day. Cavallerano added her second win in the 500 Free, coming in at 5:36.31, more than 21 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. On the men’s side, Mike Murray and Joe Jablonski were the lone individual winners for the Saints on Saturday. Murray took first place in both the 100 Free and the 500 Free. He finished in 49.46 in the 100 Free and 5:09.82 in the 500. The St. Lawrence relay team composed of Chris Giovino, Alex Humphries, Jasper Burch and Tim Akers won the 200 Free relay in 1:35.90. The Saints men’s dual meet record falls to 1-2. The women also fall to 1-2 in dual meet competition. The Saints hit the pool again on Saturday, November 20 in Canton, N.Y. against LeMoyne. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. SAINTS FALL AT ROCHESTER Nov. 12: The Saint men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost to Rochester on Friday night at the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Center in Rochester. The men fell by the score of 144 to 83 and the women lost 123 to 87 to the Yellowjackets. The Saints even their dual meet record to 1-1. The Saint men's 200 medley relay team took first place in a time of 1:49.18, besting the second place team by over four and a half seconds. Brian Wasserstein, Tim Akers, Chris Giovino and Jasper Burch composed the relay team. Mike Murray won the 200 Free with a time of 1:48.21 and the 100 Free in 49.65. Joe Jablonski finished in first in the 100 Fly in 58.22. Wasserstein took home a first place finish in the 100 Back in 59.83, beating Anthony Furstoss of Rochester by nearly four seconds. On the women's side, Joanne Cavallerano won the 1000 Free, finishing in a time of 10:57.53. She also finished in first in the 500 Free, finishing in 5:23.80. Maureen Hummel won the 100 Breast for the Saints in a time of 1:17.83 with teammate Becca Roy finishing second in 1:24.40. The women's 200 Free relay team took home first with a time of 1:50.51. Ashley McCarthy, Megan Bernier, Kim Myers and Kim Watcke swam the 200 Free Relay. The Saints take to the pool again on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet with RIT. The meet is set to start at 1:00 p.m. MURRAY, BURCH, BIRCHER, WATCKE EARN LIBERTY LEAGUE HONORS Nov. 1: Senior Mike Murray was named the Liberty League Swimmer of the Week, Meredith Bircher was named the Co-Diver of the Week and Kim Watcke and Jasper Burch were each named Co-Rookie of the Week. In two meets this week, Murray posted five individual first-place finishes and anchored a relay team to a first-place finish. Murray won the 200 Free, the 100 Fly and the 100 Breast at Clarkson. At home versus Nazareth and Skidmore, Murray won the 200 Free, the 100 Breast and anchored the 200 Medley Relay to a first place finish. Burch posted two first-place finishes in his first weekend, in addition to swimming on two winning relay teams. Burch won the 50 Free at Clarkson and at home versus Nazareth and Skidmore. He also swam on the 200 Free Relay which won at Clarkson and at home this weekend. Bircher swept the diving events (one meter and three meter) in the meet at Clarkson. She then won the one meter at home versus Skidmore and Nazareth. Watcke won the 100 Free and 50 Free in her first collegiate meet at Clarkson. She followed it with a first-place finish in the 50 Free at home versus Skidmore and Nazareth. She also swam on the 200 Medley Relay winning team at home. SAINT MEN DOWN SKIDMORE & NAZARETH; WOMEN BEAT SKIDMORE, FALL TO NAZARETH Nov. 1: Senior Mike Murray led the St. Lawrence men's swimming and diving team with first-place finishes in the 200 Free (1:49.42) and the 100 Breast (1:04.56) as they Saints defeated Skidmore and Nazareth in their home opener. The women's team defeated Skidmore 88-28, but fell to Nazareth 70-51. The men's 200 Medley Relay (1:47.32) and the 200 Free Relay (1:35.59) garnered first-place showings for the Saints. Brian Wasserstein, Tim Aker, Chris Giovino and Murray swam the 200 Medley. While Wasserstein, Aker, Jasper Burch and Steve Walano swam the 200 Free Relay. A pair of freshmen swam to first-place finishes for St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon. Burch finished first in the 50 Free in 23.70 and Giovino won the 200 IM in 2:12.93, nearly seven seconds faster than the second place finisher. Wasserstein won the 100 Butterfly with a time of 58.85 and Aker won the 100 Backstroke in 58.63. On the women's side, the 200 Medley Relay team swam to a first-place finish in 1:59.02. Kim Watcke, Caitlin Fleming, Jamie Aiken and Ashley McCarthy swam the relay. Watcke followed up with a first-place swim in the 50 Free (26.02). Meredith Bircher won in the One Meter Diving with a score of 202.00 and finished third in the 3 Meter Dive with a score of 176.80. Senior Joanne Cavallerano swam to second-place finishes in the 100 Free (11:12.40) and the 200 Free (2:02.50). The Saints travel to Rochester on Friday, November 12 at 6:00 p.m. and then to RIT on Saturday, November 13 beginning at 1:00 p.m. SAINTS OPEN SEASON WITH VICTORIES AT CLARKSON Oct. 29: St. Lawrence University's men's and women's swim teams each kicked the 2004-05 season off on the right foot with victories in dual meets at rival Clarkson on Friday. Full results from the meet were not available early Saturday due to computer problems at Clarkson.
