WOMEN'S SWIMMING PLACES 13TH AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

February 18, 2001-- The St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team finished 13th at the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Union College over the past weekend. Ithaca College won the event with 1,408 points while Hartwick was second with 1,068 and host Union was third with 1,037. Megan Hartman, a freshman from Rensselaer, was named the Swimmer of the Meet and Nazareth junior Kristie Kern was the Diver of the Meet. Shannon O'Brien of Rensselaer was named the Coach of the Year.

The Saints best event of the meet was the 100-yard butterfly where Allison Fletcher placed seventh and Andrea Ray took ninth, earning the team a combined 43 points. Ray also had a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and took 16th in the 200-yard freestyle. Fletcher swam well in the 200-yard backstroke, taking a 12th place and 15 team points. Rachel Peterson finished 22nd in the grueling 1650-yard freestyle event. Torey Davie was 15th in the 100 backstroke.

PETERSON AND RAY HIGHLIGHT SAINTS
EFFORT AT ITHACA

Feb. 3-- Rachel Peterson picked up a decisive win in the 1000 meter freestyle while Andrea Ray took the 100 freestyle as the Saints fell to Ithaca College, 138-67, on Saturday afternoon.

Peterson finished her 1000 meters in 12 minutes flat, beating Ithaca's first swimmer to the wall by 22 seconds. Peterson also took second in the 500 freestyle and helped the 200 free relay to a second place finish.

Andrea Ray finished nearly one second ahead of Ithaca's Karen Roll to take the 100 meter freestyle and also had a third place finish in the 200. She also found the energy to swim the anchor leg on the second place 200 freestyle relay.

Allison Fletcher took second in the 200 meter individual medley and had a third in the 100 meter butterfly. Jillian Dannamann came in second in both the 1 and 3-meter boards while Tessa Arenson took third on the 1-meter.

MEN WIN, WOMEN TIE AT SKIDMORE

Dec. 9-- The men's team defeated Skidmore while the women swam to a tie with the Skidmore Thoroughbreds on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Everett took first place in the 1000 free and the 200 butterfly. Tyler Herrick won the 200yard individual medley and the 500 free. Andrew Sullivan also posted a win in the 200 yard breaststroke while the 200 free relay team of Sullivan, Mike Takach, Roy Lee and Everett earned seven points with a win. Takach and Rob Doran finished 1-2 in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events as the Saints won 55-39.

On the women's side, Alison Fletcher won two races- the 200 free and the 200 backstroke. Rachel Peterson dominated the long-distance events with wins in the 1000 and 500 yard freestyle events. Torey Davie won the 50 yard free and 100 yard free while Andrea Ray won the 200 yard individual medley and the 200 butterfly. The 200 free relay team of Davie, Fletcher, Kristine Harootunian and Ray took a win.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TEAMS TAKE SEVENTH
AT UCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dec. 2-- The Saints men's and women's swimming and diving teams both took seventh place at the 2000 UCAA Championship hosted by Hamilton University. Host school Hamilton took the top spots in both the men's and women's contests.

Mike Takach took third-place in the men's 3-meter diving with 361.85 points while freshman Rob Duran placed sixth in the 3-meter and 1-meter. Takach also had a fourth place finish in the 1-meter diving event.

Rachel Peterson finish fourth in the women's 1650-yard freestyle swimming event. Alison Fletcher took a fifth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Andrea Ray finished fourth int he 200-yard butterfly. Ray and Fletcher each finished with several top-10 finishes as the top point gainers for the Saint women.

MEN AND WOMEN FINISH FIFTH AT
NORTH COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

Nov. 18- The St. Lawrence men's and women's swim teams each finished fifth at the North Country Invitational held at SUNY Potsdam on Friday and Saturday. Oswego took both the men's and women's titles.

Mike Talach continued his dominance of the diving events as he took first in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter diving events. On the women's side, Alison Fletcher won three events, the 200 yard individual medley, the 200 yard backstroke and the 100 yard backstroke while Andrea Ray won the 200 yard butterfly and the 200 yard freestyle.

LEMOYNE MEN, WOMEN TOP SAINTS

Nov. 11- The Saint men and women suffered losses to the LeMoyne men and women in their first home meet of the 2000-01 season on Saturday afternoon. The men were downed 140-61 by the Dolphins, while the women were edged 128-88.

Chris Everett was the only Saint swimmer to claim a first place finish. He was victorious in the 50 Fly. Everett took a second place finish in the 100 Fly as well.

Andrea Ray led the Saint women with two first place finishes. She won the 100 Free as well as the 200 IM. Alison Fletcher and Tory Davie also came through with first place wins for the Saints. Fletcher won the 100 Fly, while Davie claimed the 50 Free.

St. Lawrence will swim at the North Country Invitational this weekend. The meet will be held at Potsdam College and is set to kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

SAINTS FALL TO CLARKSON

Nov. 7- The Clarkson men and women handed the Saints a loss in their UCAA opener on Tuesday. The Saint men lost by a score of 104-68, while the women suffered a 114-76 loss.

Andrew Sullivan collected a first place finish in the 100 breast. Sullivan, Chris Everett, Roy Lee and Tyler Herrick also placed first in the 200 Free Relay.

Alison Fletcher was involved in three first place finishes for the women. She was victorious in the 100 Back as well as the 200 IM. Fletcher, Rachel Peterson, Andrea Ray and Tory Davie won the 200 Medley Relay.

The Saints also went 1-2 in the men's one and three-meter diving and the women's one meter diving. Mike Takach took first on the men's side and Rob Doran finished second. For the women, Jillian Dannemann came through with the first place finish in the women's one and Tessa Arneson finished second.

The Saints will host a 1:00 p.m. meet against LeMoyne on Saturday.

BOB CLEMMER NAMED NEW HEAD COACH AND AQUATICS DIRECTOR OF SAINTS SWIMMING AND DIVING

Robert Clemmer of Boonton, NJ was recently named head coach of the men's and women's swimming and diving program at St. Lawrence University, as well as aquatics director of the Augsbury pool facility. Clemmer, currently the head coach and CEO of the New Jersey Wave, joins the Saints with over seventeen years coaching experience. Clemmer's background includes positions with the Team Delaware Swim Team, University of Virginia, University of Pittsburgh, The United States Swimming National Junior team, the Olympic Sports Festival team, and the US World University Games team among others. Bob was also a seven year recipient of the American Coaches' Association Achievement of Excellence Award.

The St. Lawrence swimmers and divers, as well as the entire community, enthusiastically welcome Bob to St. Lawrence.
