ROCHESTER TOPS SAINTS IN GAME ONE OF DOUBLEHEADER; 2 ND GAME WASHED OUT
April 30: The University of Rochester won the first game of a Liberty League softball doubleheader 5-1 at St. Lawrence on Saturday while the second game was called due to an unplayable field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Rochester finishes its regular season with a 26-16 record including a 4-3 Liberty League mark. The Saints conclude their season at 10-19, 1-6 in league play.
Rochester broke open a pitcher’s duel between Heather Tuttle and Kristina Long with four-run top of the sixth, all of the runs unearned. Laura Rubinchuk reached on an error to start the inning and pinch runner Kelly White was sacrificed to second. Andrea LaRocque then singled to put runners at second and third after advancing without drawing a throw. Jennifer Moshier singled through the left side to score White with the go-ahead run. Jena Robertson singled in LaRocque with Moshier scoring as Robertson tried to draw a throw after rounding first. Robertson later scored on an outfield error for the 5-1 Yellowjacket lead.
Rochester opened the scoring in the top of the first on Jessica Sorrentino’s bunt single and a double by Alicia Citro. The Saints tied it in the bottom of the inning when Erin Lloyd beat out a bunt single, was sacrificed to second and scored on Tuttle’s single down the right field line.
Long improved to 12-5 on the season with a three hitter. Tuttle finished the season with a 7-10 record.
