TRIO OF SAINTS EARN 2008

ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

May 8: Three St. Lawrence University softball players earned 2008 All-Conference honors, as the Liberty League announced their annual award winners on Thursday. Sophomores Molly Swan and Jessica Manderfield were Second Team choices while first year student Melissa Rogers earned Honorable Mention status.

 

Swan led the Saints in nearly every offensive category including batting average (.359), runs (13), hits (33), extra base hits (10), and RBI's (14). The Clifton Park, NY native also boasted a .500 slugging percentage and was a solid defensive player at short stop with a .907 fielding percentage.

 

Manderfield, who landed on the Liberty League’s Second Team for the second consecutive season, continued to be a productive player for St. Lawrence in her sophomore season. The Davisburg, MI native hit .326 with five extra base hits and seven RBI's. Manderfield, who was second on the team in hits with 28, was also a reliable glove in the infield with a .918 fielding percentage.

 

Meanwhile, Rogers made an immediate impact for the Saints in her rookie season, adding a consistent and strong bat to the line-up. The Clarence, NY native hit .309 in 24 games, including 21 hits and 12 RBI's. Rogers also had one home run, four doubles, 11 runs scored and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.

 

Union’s Megan Kaknis was named the 2008 Liberty League “Player of the Year,” while Rochester’s Beth Ameno was tabbed the “Pitcher of the Year” and Rensselaer’s Jen Bach the “Rookie of the Year.” Finally, Union’s Pete Brown and his staff were named the league’s “Coaching Staff of the Year” following a 29-win season.
