SAINTS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER AT HAMILTON, 5-3, 10-3
April 20: Heather Tuttle won her seventh game of the year, scattering six hits in a 5-3 first game win over Hamilton College and Ava Pickering pitched five solid innings in the nightcap as the Saint softball team swept Hamilton College 5-3 and 10-3 at Hamilton Wednesday.
A Saturday doubleheader against Rochester was postponed due to rain and will be made up April 30. The Saints are scheduled to host St. John Fisher at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Tuttle struck out four and walked one to improve her record to 7-6 in game one. Shawna Weeks went two for four with two doubles and drove in two runs and Shelly Martin added two hits in three at bats in game one. Rebekah Howrigan had a triple for the Saints, who scored four times in the top of the sixth to win game one.
Trailing 3-0, Tuttle hit a one out single and Weeks drove her home with a double. Martin singled and pinch hitter Melissa Pittelli singled in one run with another scoring on the throw to second. Sara Clark reached on a passed ball and the go-ahead run scored on an error. The Saints added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Tuttle walked and scored on Weeks’ double.
In game two, Pickering went five innings, allowing seven hits and striking out three, and the Saints scored eight in the top of the sixth to overcome a 3-0 deficit en route their 10-3 win and the sweep.
Howrigan went three for five and Erin Lloyd was three for three in the game with Pittelli driving in two runs and Weeks tripling home two in the big sixth inning. Pittelli added a two-run single in the big inning for the Saints. A wild pitch and Paige Truax’s triple added two runs in the seventh.
The Saints, now 10-14, are scheduled to host Rochester in a Liberty League doubleheader on Saturday.
