UNION SWEEPS SAINTS IN SOFTBALL TWINBILL
April 10: Abbey Arceneaux mastered the Saint lineup with a three hitter, striking out nine, in the first game of a Liberty League softball doubleheader at the University at Albany on Sunday en route a 3-0 win and Union completed the sweep with a 5-2 win in the nightcap to run its winning streak to 12.
The Dutchwomen improve to 15-3 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League, while the Saints are now 7-9 overall and 1-3 in league play. SLU will play two at Plattsburgh on Wednesday.
Jess McPherson took the first game loss, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and striking out three. Ashley Porter, Heather Tuttle and McPherson had the Saint hits, all singles.
The Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and led 2-1 in the fifth, but Union scored two in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth for its 5-2 win in the nightcap.
Porter had two hits including a double, Tuttle had two hits and a run driven in and Rebekah Howrigan and Melissa Pittelli had hits for the Saints in the nightcap. Tutlte took the loss on the mound, allowing just one earned run.
