TUTTLE TIES TWO SLU HOMERUN RECORDS IN SPLIT

Apr. 16: Heather Tuttle tied the single season and career homerun records with a 2 run homerun in the second game of a doubleheader against Russell Sage. Tuttle ties the SLU career homerun record at 7 set by Michelle Circelli. She also ties the single season homerun record set by Colette Dafoe which stands at 4.

In the first game of the twinbill, the Saints pounded out 14 hits in 5 innings to beat Russell Sage 10-0. Tuttle pitched 4 hitless innings, giving up just one walk. Sara Clark came in to finish the game in the fifth, and did not allow anyone to reach base to preserve the no hitter.

Shawna Weeks drove a triple to the wall, and Ashley Porter lined a shot to right center for a double. Erin Lloyd was 3-for-3 in the first game, and Paige Truax went 2-4.

In the second game, the Saints’ could not string their 9 hits together, and lost 5-3. Russell Sage jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with 2 hits and an SLU error. Clark pitched 3 innings for the Saints, and gave up 5 hits. Ava Pickering came in in the fourth and silenced Sage. Jess McPherson threw the last 2 innings for SLU, giving up 2 hits and an earned run.

Carla Pasquarelli was 2-3 and scored 2 runs for Russell Sage. Brittany Kirk batted 2-3 and added a double.

Heather Tuttle hit a 2 run shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth to pull the Saints within one run, but Sage added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on hits by Pasquarelli and Kirk. Kristin Hazelton then closed the door in the bottom of the seventh by popping up the last Saint batter with 2 runners on.

The Saints will host a doubleheader against RPI tomorrow, Sunday, April 17 th at noon.
