LEITZKE SHUTS DOWN SAINTS WITH STRONG PITCHING PERFORMANCES
April 13: Jacquline Leitzke pitched a two hitter, striking out 12 in the to beat St. Lawrence University 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Plattsburgh State and was credited with the win with a scoreless fourth inning in the nightcap as the Cardinals swept the doubleheader with an 8-2 win in the nightcap.
Heather Tuttle was the tough-luck loser in the first game, allowing only one hit and one unearned run. Tuttle struck out six, but the Cardinals scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Tiffany Burek walked, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored when Annie Riccio reached on an error.
Melissa Pittelli and Rebekah Howrigan had the only Saint hits in the game, both singles.
Plattsburgh snapped a 2-2 tie with a six run bottom of the fourth and took the 8-2 win in the second game. Jess McPherson took the loss for the Saints while Tuttle pitched an inning and a third of scoreless relief. Stephanie Zweig picked up her second save of the day with three innings of scoreless pitching after Leitzke pitched the top of the fourth.
Howrigan doubled in a run for the Saints while Erin Lloyd doubled and Paige Truax, Tuttle and Shawna Weeks had singles.
The Saints, now 7-11, will host Russell Sage in a doubleheader on Saturday and RPI in two on Sunday.
