TUTTLE SETS STRIKEOUT RECORD IN FIRST OF TWO
Apr. 28: Senior Captain Heather Tuttle set the single game strikeout record by fanning 11 Elmira batters. Tuttle surpassed Colette Dafoe’s mark of 9 set in 2000. The Saints could not produce at the plate and suffered a 3-0 loss to Elmira College.
Elmira struck for 2 runs in the top of the first, on singles by Kelly D’Angelo, Ashley Mutch, and Callie Black. They plated their third run in 3 rd inning when D’Angelo scored on a sacrifice fly by Mutch.
D’Angelo threw a 2 hitter to stifle the Saints 3-0.
In the second of two at Saints field, Elmira struck first on a double by Kristen Wheaton, and a single by Callie Black.
The Saints took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Jess McPherson led off with a single, and Paige Truax drilled a triple to right center to put the Saints on the board. Tuttle singled with 2 outs to score Truax for the go-ahead run.
Elmira came right back in the top of the sixth, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits.
Ava Pickering came in to relieve Tuttle with one out in the sixth inning.
Elmira then scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a walk and a hit to make the final score 5-2.
The Saints will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 at Saints Field against conference foe Rochester to close out their season.
