Minutes for April 20, 2008 (click here for printable version; word doc.)
SAAC Meeting Minutes – Final SAAC Meeting of the semester: April 20, 2008
SAAC End of the Year Evaluations
- Each representative received an evaluation to comment on the activities SAAC sponsored or participated in this past semester - Formed small groups and discussed each activity within their groups; large group discussion, went around to each group and heard comments/suggestions/opinions on various activities
General Comments and Suggestions:
Star Search - Better planning, more emails, more advertising, getting old, having it before spring break or in the fall - Austin mentioned how difficult it was to advertise the event because teams were not responsive about their participation - Discussed whether deadlines were helpful or not; general consensus was no because teams will usually wait until the last minute -Other suggestions included having the coaches make it mandatory to participate, or opening it to the entire campus
National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Church & Community, SLU Clean Up Day, Etiquette Dinner - Events went very well, well-organized, simple, fun, successful
Hockey Concession Fundraiser - Very successful; someone suggested doing the same thing at football games
Dodgeball - Advantage: Gets more of the campus involved (non-athletes) - Suggestion for having dodgeball or other activities on the quad; “Spring Fling” event
Baby Drive - Collected various baby supplies, diapers, formula, etc… - Went well this semester! - Suggestions for: - More advertising; not having it at the same time as National Girls and Women in Sports Day - Having a staffed booth in the Student Center to collect items; placing boxes near entrance of Stafford Fitness Center
Student-Athlete Luncheon - One athlete from each team selected by coaches to attend the luncheon; the event went really well! - Great way to connect professors to athletics ** Very important that next year if you are selected to attend the luncheon, you must select a faculty member to attend with you and inform Meg or Austin who you invited; we had issues this year with faculty members not having name tags! - Suggestion: more publicity for Student-Athlete Day around campus
Read Across America - SLU athletes went and read Dr. Seuss books in local classrooms - Suggestions: make more times available, publicize more
OTHER IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR: - Salvation Army Bell Ringing
- Having a “Sports Fun Day” where all teams participate and each team has their own station/booth with their team schedules, information, etc…; gets the community involved, and children can learn more about various sports (similar to something like “Skating with the Saints”)
-Spare change drive
-Sports Theme Dinner at Dana
-Having another barbeque (like the one held last year for the NCAA Choices Event)
