BRITT PLACES FOURTH AT NATIONALS

May 10: Sophomore Hallie Britt secured a fourth place finish in the Individual Walk Trot Canter Championship at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.

Sophomore Liz McCormick was the recepient of an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Alumni Scholarship and senior Cate Doucette was awarded a senior academic/athletic achievement award.

COCHRAN, BRITT QUALIFY FOR NATIONALS

Apr. 12: The St. Lawrence Riding Team traveled to the annual Zone II Show hosted by Cazenovia College on Friday. St. Lawrence was well represented by eight riders who had qualified two weeks earlier at Regionals in order to ride at this competition. Zone II consists of 37 schools in three different states as well as Canada. St. Lawrence was fortunate enough to qualify two riders, Kelsey Cochran '06 and Hallie Britt '06 for Nationals.

The day started for St. Lawrence team members when the Individual Intermediate Fences class began. Kelly Gaffney '05 placed 9th in the competition while her teammates cheered her on from around the arena.

For Open Equitation on the Flat, team members scrambled to put teammates Kelsey Cochran '06 and Tarah Watson '05 on their horses before watching the class. Watson took 5th in the class while Cochran won the Zone II Open Equitation on the Flat Championship and qualified for nationals. In Intermediate Equitation on the flat Jill Callahan rode into a 4th place finish.

Cate Doucette and Amanda Church, both seniors, competed in Novice Equitation on the Flat together. Both Doucette and Church celebrated the end of their St. Lawrence riding career as teammates as they rode in their class. Church rode to a 6th place finish while Doucette claimed 4th.

The last class of the day with St. Lawrence competitors was Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation on the Flat where Liz McCormick '06, and Hallie Britt '06 rode. After an exciting competition McCormick placed 5th in the Zone while Britt took the Zone II Reserve Championship for Walk-Trot-Canter on the Flat. This accomplishment for Britt qualified her to compete in the upcoming National competition.

The IHSA National Championship is being hosted by Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Nationals begin on May 5 and continue through May 9.

 

SAINTS PERFORM WELL AT ZONE REGIONALS

Mar. 30: St. Lawrence had a great showing at the Zone Regionals hosted by Cazenovia on Saturday. The Saints captured 8 of the 22 spots offered to the 13 colleges.

The following riders won their regional class. Kelsey Cochran was the open equitation on the flat regional champion with another zone spot secured by her teamate Tarah Watson. Kelly Gaffney won the intermediate equitation over fences. Jill Callahan was reserve regional
champion in intermediate equitation on the flat. Cate Doucette won the novice equitation on the flat regional championship with another spot secured by senior Amanda Church. Sophomore Hallie Britt was named reserve walk trot canter regional champion and teamate Liz McCormick was third.

St. Lawrence as a team finished as reserve champion team. And Sophomore Rachael Ragozzino was named overall fifth place high point rider with Kelsey Cochran finishing seventh in the overall individual standings.

The next step for all our riders is the zone finals on April 9th at Cazenovia. Any rider who is champion or reserve in their respective class will advance to the nationals.

SAINTS CHAMPIONS AT HOME SHOW; FINISH YEAR AS RESERVE REGIONAL CHAMPIONS

Mar. 10: At the St.Lawrence show this weekend, the Saints Riding team won with 46 points to Potsdam's 41 points. Cazenovia finished in third with 38 points. Blue ribbon winners were Tarah Watson in intermediate equitation over fences, Amanda Church in novice equitation over fences, Kelsey Cochran in open flat, Elizabeth Winner in intermediate flat, Esther Deming in novice flat, Kate Mittlefehldt in walk trot canter.

At Cazenovia on Sunday blue ribbon winners were Tarah Watson in open flat, Amanda Church in intermediate flat, Cate Doucette in intermediate flat, Liz McCormick in novice flat.

Ten Saint riders in 15 classes qualified for the regional championships on March 27th at Cazenovia. Qualifiers are: Hallie Britt in walk trot canter, Jill Callahan in intermediate flat and fences, Amanda Church novice flat and fences, Kelsey Cochran open flat, Cate Doucette novice flat, Kelly Gaffney in open flat and intermediate fences, Liz McCormick in walk trot canter, Rachael Ragozzino in open flat, Tarah Watson in open flat and intermediate fences, and Elizabeth Winner novice fences and flat.

Each rider who wins a first, second, or third at regionals will advance to the zone finals which will also be held at Cazenovia on April 9th. Riders who are first or second in their class at the zone finals will advance to the nationals.

SAINTS FINISH AS RESERVE CHAMPION TO CAZENOVIA

Feb. 29: The St.Lawrence Equestrian team finished as reserve champion with 40 points to Cazenovia with 42 points at the Cazenovia Show on Saturday. Alfred finished with 23 and Syracuse with 22.

Lauren Kuester finished reserve high point rider with wins in both intermediate on the flat and over fences. Senior Cate Doucette joined her
in the ride off with wins in both novice flat and fences.

Blue ribbon winners for the Saints included, Kiley Wick freshman won the intermediate equitation over fences, Colleen Barnett won intermediate equitation on the flat, Amanda Church won novice equitation on the flat qualifying her for regionals. Elizabeth Winner won the novice flat and her third over fences securing heraa regional spot in both novice flat and fences. Hallie Britt won novice fences, Liz McCormick won novice flat, Kate Mittlefehldt won advanced walk trot canter, Jessica Latchney won advanced walk trot canter and Sierra Newton won walk trot.

SAINTS FINISH IN TIE WITH CAZENOVIA

Dec. 13 - The Saints Riding team finished with 47 points with tied Cazenovia for first at the St.Lawrence show. Syracuse finished third with 31 points with SUNY Potsdam finishing a close fourth with 30 points.

Blue ribbon winners for the Saints were Kelly Gaffney with two, Kiley Wick, Emilie Grossman, Cate Doucette, Tarah Watson, Hannah Stonefield, Elizabeth Winner, Tara Alibrandi, Jessica Latchney and Sierra Newton.

SAINTS FINISH AS RESERVE CHAMPION TO CAZENOVIA

Dec. 9 - The Saints Riding team traveled to Cazenovia this weekend where they finished as reserve champion to host Cazenovia. The Saints finsished with 36 points behind Cazenovia's 46 points. Syracuse ended up in third place with 23 points.

Blue ribbon winners were junior Tarah Watson in open flat, freshman Hannah Stonefield in intermediate flat, and sophomore Liz McCormick in walk trot canter.

Liz McCormick has now qualified for the regional finals in walk trot canter. Regional finals will take place in March of 2004 at Cazenovia.

SAINTS FINISH SECOND ON SATURDAY, SEVENTH ON SUNDAY

Nov. 24: Saturday the Saints finished reserve to Cazenovia. With Cazenovia scoring 35 points and St. Lawrence scoring 30 points. First place finishers were Rachael Ragazinno winning Open flat, Tarah Watson winning open flat, Elizabeth Winner winning novice fences, Esther Deming won novice fences, Hallie Britt won novice flat and Jessica Latchney won walk, trot canter.

Qualifying for the regional horse show in March 2004 and Jill Callahan in Intermediate flat and fences, Hallie Britt in walk trot canter. Second place honors went to Amanda Church in novice fences and Ashley Gilbert in novice flat.

Sundays show resulted in a seventh place finish with Cazenovia scoring 41 points, Syracuse with 29, Alfred with 28, SUNY Oswego with 28, RIT with 27, SUNY Potsdam with 26, and St. Lawrence with 22. First place winner were Amanda Church Novice fences, Kate Bacon Novice flat,Hallie Britt Novice flat. Second place winners were Hannah Stonefield intermediate flat, Tarah Watson Open flat, and Jessica Latchney Walk trot Canter .

SAINTS FINISH SECOND AT NAZARETH SHOW

Nov. 15: St. Lawrence finishes their first show as reserve to Cazenovia. Cazenovia finished with 37 points to SLU's 34. Syracuse finished 3rd with 25 points.

Hannah Stonefield of Singapore was named high point rider with wins in both intermediate equitation of the flat and fences. Sophomore teamate Kelsey Cochran made it to the ride off also with wins in both the open flat and fences.

Freshman Kate Bacon won both novice flat and fences to also participate in the ride off which Stonefield was victorious. Other blue ribbon winners for SLU were Esther Deming in novice fences, Jill Callahan in intermediate fences, Tara ALibrandi in advanced walk trot canter and second place finishes to Rachael Ragazzino in open flat and fences, Jessica Latchney in advanced walk trot canter, Hallie Britt in advanced walk trot canter,Emilie Grossman in novice fences.
