SAINTS WIN REGION TITLE AND HOME SHOW

 

Mar. 2: St. Lawrence University’s riding team lost some ground to Cazenovia in the race for regional high point team on Saturday, but clinched the regional title during the course of a home show on Sunday, which the Saints went on to win by three points over Cazenovia and Alfred.

were tied with Cazenovia with just two classes left to be decided, which insured SLU of the regional title. As it turned out, the Saints regained some of the points Cazenovia made up on Saturday, winning Sunday’s show with 46 points while Cazenovia and Alfred tied for second with 43.

 

St. Lawrence had both the show’s high point rider and reserve high point rider on Sunday as junior Katharine Hankin, riding in the open division and first year Hadley Deming, riding in the novice division tied with two wins and 14 points each. Hankin won the rideoff for the title, her fourth high point rider finish of the season.

 

Hankin, Brittan White and Dorothy Douglas have qualified to ride in regionals in both open over fences and open on the flat. Other qualifiers include Alyce Simons in intermediate on the flat, and Jessica Sweeney and Kristin Putnam in walk-trot-canter.

 

Hankin won her class in both open over fences and on the flat while Deming won both novice over fences and

novice on the flat. Other class winners for the Saints on Sunday included White in open on the flat, junior Holly Davis in intermediate on the flat, sophomore Laura Brown in novice over fences and Mallory Roberts in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation.

 

White added a second in open equitation over fences and Douglas was second in open on the flat. Nick Dephteros and Whitney McClaren each finished third in beginner walk-trot equitation classes with first year Gina Spilatro finishing fourth in her class of intermediate on the flat.

 

In Saturday’s show at Cazenovia, winners for the second-place Saint team included Douglas and White in open over fences, sophomore Taylor Clark in intermediate over fences, Simons and Davis in intermediate on the flat, Putnam in novice on the flat and Roberts in advanced walk-trot-canter.

 

The Saints will return to action when they host the Region Two Championships at the Elsa Gunnison Appleton Riding Hall on Friday March 28.
