DOUGLAS IS HIGH POINT RIDER; SAINTS WIDEN REGIONAL LEAD WITH WIN

Dec. 8: St. Lawrence University’s riding team expanded its regional lead to 27 points with an impressive win in its home show at the Elsa Gunnison Appleton Riding Hall on Saturday.

 

The Saints won with a total of 46 points with Alfred second with 42 and Syracuse third with 34.

 

Junior Dorothy Douglas was the show’s high point rider after a ride-off against senior teammate Brittan White. Both Douglas and White each won a class of open over fences and a class of open on the flat.

 

Other Saint blue ribbon winners Saturday included Katharine Hankin in open on the flat, Alyce Simons and Holly Davis in intermediate on the flat, Hadley Deming in novice on the flat, Jessica Sweeney and Mallary Roberts in walk-trot-canter and Nick Dephtereos in walk-trot.

 

The team is now off until competition resumes in early March.

 

 

HANKIN IS HIGH POINT RIDER, SAINTS 2ND AT CAZENOVIA

Dec. 1: Junior Katharine Hankin earned high point rider honors for the second time this season with wins in both open horsemanship on the flat and open over fences and St. Lawrence University’s riding team maintained its lead in the regional point standings with a second place finish at the Cazenovia Show on Saturday.

 

St. Lawrence, which will host its own first-half show on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Elsa Gunnison \Appleton Riding Hall, has an eight point lead over Cazenovia heading into that show, which is the final one until March. Cazenovia cut into the Saint lead with a two-point win over the Saints in its show on Saturday. Cazenovia finished with 45 points, the Saints were second with 43 and Alfred third with 38.

 

Hankin (right) has been high point rider twice this season and was reserve high point rider in the last show at Geneseo prior to Thanksgiving. She was joined in the winners circle in the open class by Dorothy Douglas, who also won a class of open over fences.

 

Other Saint winners in Saturday’s show were first year Gina Spilatro in intermediate over fences, first year Hadley Deming in novice over fences, junior Holly Davis in intermediate on the flat, junior Spencer Cook in novice on the flat and freshman Nick Dephteros in walk-trot.

 

SAINTS POST PERFECT SCORE AT GENESEO

St. Lawrence University’s riding team scored a perfect 49 points to win the SUNY Geneseo Horse Show prior to the Thanksgiving break, pushing their lead in the race for the high point team in the region to 10 with half the season to go.

 

The Saints started off with a sweep of three divisions in open equitation over fences and Saint riders were winners in nearly every event as they outpointed second place Cazenovia by ten.

 

Senior Brittan White was the high point rider in the show and junior Katharine Hankin was the reserve high point rider.

 

White and Hankin were joined by junior Dorothy Douglas in winning all three divisions of open over fences and White and Hankin also won in open equitation on the flat. Freshman Lindsay Colbert scored 14 points with wins in intermediate equitation on the flat and intermediate over fences while freshmen Jordan Koivu and Molly Hayssen won sections of novice on the flat. Freshmen Liz Shaffer and Jillian Reich and sophomore Michelle Dumas all finished first in walk-trot-canter competition and junior Erica Reid was a winner in walk-trot.

 

Hankin earned high point rider honors and the Saints were third at the Nazareth Show, just one point behind second place Alfred. Cazenovia won with 43 points with Alfred second with 37 and the Saints third with 36.

Colbert won intermediate over fences, Hankin was first in open on the flat, Hayssen won novice on the flat and Reich won in walk-trot-canter.

 

The Saints will ride at Cazenovia on Saturday in their next show.

 

 

DOUGLAS, HANKIN HIGH POINT RIDERS AS SAINTS GRAB REGIONAL LEAD

Oct, 23: Juniors Dorothy Douglas and Katharine Hankin each earned High Point Rider honors and St. Lawrence University’s riding team jumped to the top of the regional standings after the first two shows of the 2007-08 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association season.

Douglas was the high point rider and the Saints finished second in the opening show at RIT on Saturday, trailing Cazenovia by a single point, 39-38. The Saints won with 41 points with Syracuse second with 34 and Cazenovia third with 33 at Geneseo on Sunday to open a seven-point lead with two competitions down and six to go for the year.

 

Douglas won both the open equitation over fences and the open equitation on the flat in the RIT show. Other Saint winners included senior Brittan White in open over fences, first year Lindsay Colbert in intermediate equitation over fences, first year Hadley Deming and sophomore Laura Brown in novice on the flat, junior captain Jessica Sweeney in walk-trot-canter and junior Erica Reid in walk-trot.

 

In the Geneseo show, Hankin earned the high point rider ribbon and won both open on the flat and open over fences. Colbert again won in intermediate over fences with first year Jordan Koiuvu also winning a class in intermediate over fences and sophomore Taylor Clark won in novice over fences. Douglas also won in open on the flat for the second straight day while sophomore Kristin Putnam won in novice on the flat and first year Jillian Reich won in walk-trot-canter.

 

Clark and Putnam have already qualified for regional competition, Clark in novice over fences and Putnam in walk-trot-canter.

 

The Saints will return to competiton with back to back shows hosted by Nazareth and Geneseo on Nov. 17 and 18.
