Ethan Townsend received an Economics degree in 1998, and a Masters in Education in 2001 while serving as an assistant Nordic coach at St. Lawrence. The Glover, VT native headed west to coach at Whitman College for two years in the fall of 2001. He was head coach of the Nordic ski team at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA and helped that team make the transition from the US Collegiate Ski Association National Champions to NCAA competition in the 2002-2003 season.
Townsend returned to his alma mater in 2003 and has seen the team improve steadily since, with NCAA qualifiers in every season. He was named EISA Coach of the Year in 2007.
The Northeast Kingdom native has been competing in cross country skiing since age six and led his high school to a state team championship in his senior year.
He now resides in Canton, NY with his wife, Jennifer.
Assistant coach Knut-Eric Joslin

Assistant Nordic ski coach Knut-Eric Joslin joins the St. Lawrence program after a year of working for the Mt. Bachelor Ski Education Foundation (MBSEF). In addition to coaching duties at MBSEF, Joslin was responsible for the Nordic Race Administration. He hosted a number of high profile competitions including the 2007 AXCS National Masters Championship.
During July and August of 2007, the Williamstown, MA native also finished up his T1/T2/T3 (The Norwegian Ski Foundation) Nordic coaching certification. He hopes to supplement Coach Townsend’s program with the theoretical perspective gained from this training.
Prior to 2006, Joslin studied chemistry at Dartmouth College. He was a four year ski team member who volunteered his time to the Ford Sayre ski program.
