HEAD TRACK COACH MIKE HOWARD
Howard, a 1987 St. Lawrence graduate, was named the 1996 and 1998 United States Track Coaches Association NCAA Division III Cross Country District Coach of the Year. He was the 1996, '97 and '98 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) cross country Coach of the Year and earned Coach of the Year honors in New York State for track and field several times during his career. He has also been conference coach of the year many times during his career. He has served as president of the New York State Collegiate Track and Field Conference which oversees the state meets in cross country and indoor and outdoor track. He was a standout in both cross country and track as an undergraduate and remains active as a runner. He was a three time competitor in the NCAA Cross Country Championships and was a consistent scorer for the Saints in the distance races in both indoor and outdoor track. His programs have consistently been among the top teams in New York State and the men's cross country team won the 2000 NCAA Atlantic Regional title. His track teams have also been consistent winners with the women's program one of the top two in the state over the last several seasons. Howard began his coaching career as an assistant coach in both track and field and cross country in 1987, and moved to a full-time coaching position in 1989 and Associate Athletic Director at the start of the 1998-99 academic year. The Saint head coach has coached some of the top athletes in the state, including two-time All-American Jeff Lyndaker, All-American Lawton Redman, five-time All-American Chris Burgess, two-time All-American Deb Danehy, three-time All-American Reili Liiva and Karen Lamora who was a two-time All-American and a National Champion in the 400 meter hurdles.
