2006-07: Ostler had an outstanding indoor season running distance races for the Saints. He placed sixth in the mile run at the Indoor Liberty League Championships with a time of 4:32.53. He won the event at the St. Lawrence Indoor Classic. He placed first in the 5000 meter run at the Saints Holiday Relays and ran a season's best time of 15:45.98. A member of the cross country team in the fall, John won the 5000m in the SLU Holiday Relays in the Saints first meet of the season, a personal record.

2005-06: As one of the Saints top cross country runners in the fall, John competed in middle distance events for the Saints.

2004-05: A member of the Saint cross country team in the fall, John was the top freshman finisher in the Liberty League championship and earned second team All Conference honors.

At Peoples Academy

John ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track and played basketball. He was a 2002 and 2003 All League selection and captained both the indoor track and cross country teams. He finished ninth in the 2003 Vermont Division II cross country championships and helped his team to the team title. He was the individual champion and led his team to the Division III title as a junior. He was a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Northern Vermont Ridge Runners Scholarship and the Joe Yando Memorial Scholarship.
