JONES NAMED PERFORMER OF THE WEEK Seniors Nick Perzanoski and Erik Donohoe and sophomore Eric Jones had big days to highlight the Saint men’s track team’s participation in the Syracuse Invitational at Manley Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Jones was named both the Liberty League and ECAC Field Athlete of the Week for his performance.
Perzanoski was fourth in the long jump at 5.40 meters, finished fifth in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.17 seconds and led off the second place 4x400 relay team, joining Craig DiGiovanni, Sky Heiss and Jay Thornhill to finish in 3:29.35, trailing only Colgate. The relay included a 51.7 anchor leg by Thornhill.
Donohoe was second in 4:19.91 in the mile while Jones finished second in the weight throw with a 16.72 meter throw (54-10.25). Jones' second-place finish earned him Liberty League Field Performer of the Week honors.
Other top finishes by the Saints included a fourth in the shot with a 13.59 meter (44-7) throw by Gabe McBride and a strong showing in the mile with Dan Ramsey finishing fifth, Terrance Fox sixth and Brandon Kenny eighth.
Mark Burnham was third in 1:07.94 in his section of the 500 while Ben Greenberg was seventh in 8:57.76 and John Ostler 10th overall in the 3000 meters. Ian Schofield was second and Will Manning fourth in the second section of the 3000.
Heiss ran 52.48 in the 400 and DiGiovanni turned in his best time of the year in the 55 meters, running 6.63 and finishing second in his heat. Thornhill ran 6.76 and was also second in his heat of the 55. Cody LaVack won his section of the 400 in 55.10.
The Saints will return to action at the New Balance Games in New York City Friday and Saturday and will host the Liberty League Championships on Feb. 16.
