SAINTS WIN DMR AT NEW BALANCE GAMES Feb. 9: Saturday competition got off to a great start for the Saint men’s track team at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory in New York City as the Distance Medley Relay team won the collegiate championship in that event with a 10:11.31 clocking.
The Saint team of Terrance Fox, Craig DiGiovanni, Mark Burnham and Erik Donohoe topped a 14-team field with Rider finishing second in 10:12.23. Other teams in the field included Lehigh, Columbia, Delaware, Morgan State, and Kentucky.
Dan Ramsey had the top Saint individual finish through the first day and a half of competition when he finished 11 th in a 23-runner field in the 5000 meters. He ran 15:20.41 with teammate John Ostler finishing 18 th in 15:37.52. The race was won by Kentucky’s John Thompson in 14:54.40.
The Saint 4x200 relay team finished 10 th in 1:35.72 while the 4x400 team ran in a New York only race and was fifth in 3:32.73 trailing Buffalo, Binghamton, Adelphi and Fordham.
GRAMBO 23 RD IN SHOT AT NEW BALANCE INVITATIONAL
Feb. 8: Senior Geoff Grambo had the top Saint men’s finish in early Friday competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational being conducted at the famous Armory in New York City.
Grambo threw 15.42 meters (50-7.25) to finish 23 rd in a 49-thrower field in the men’s shot put competition to open the two-day meet which includes top NCAA Division I competitors from across the nation. Rashaud Scott of Kentucky won the shot put competition with a 17.96 meter throw.
Mark Burnham led a strong Saint showing in the 800 meters with a 36th place finish in 1:56.79 while Erik Donohoe was 42nd in 1:56.98, David Lloyd 55th in 1:58.37 and Geoff Millard 71st in 2:02.34. Danny Harris of Georgetown won the 77-competitor event in 1:52.62.
Other Friday afternoon finishes for the Saints included a 48 th place finish in the long jump by Nick Perzanoski with a leap of 6.23 meters (20-5.25), a 52 nd place finish in 1:08.88 in the 500 meters by Joe Shehata and a 57 th place finish in the 3000 in 9:15.64 by Ben Greenberg. Sky Heiss ran in the 400 trials and had a time of 51.57. The top ten in that field advanced to the finals with 122 runners competing. Perzanoski ran 8.80 in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing 64th.
