JONES, DONOHOE SET RECORDS WITH ECAC PERFORMANCES
Mar. 8: St. Lawrence University sophomore Eric Jones won the weight throw competition with the best throw in the nation in Division III competition thus far this season and senior Erik Donohoe won the mile run, breaking a 29-year old SLU record in the process as day two of competition for the Saint indoor track and field team got off to a tremendous start at Harvard on Saturday.
The two wins, coupled with several other strong performances throughout the final day of competition,
Jones threw the weight 18.94 meters (62-1.5) to win the event. The distance is .61 meters longer than Rich Wright’s SLU record which was set in 1987 and the longest in the nation among Division III competitors thus far this season. Also an ECAC record, it is Jones’ personal best by over three meters.
Donohoe ran 4:12.02 to win the mile, the 11 th best time in the nation this season among Division III competitors. The time lowered the SLU record of 4:13.2 (hand time) set by Jim Howard in the 1979 indoor season and was also an ECAC meet record.
David Lloyd finished second in the 1000 with Brandon Kenny fourth and Terrance Fox fifth to pick up 17 points in that event on Saturday. The Saints also came through with a strong performance in the 4x880 yard relay, with a team of Burnham, Chris Funch, Kenny and Geoff Millard running 7:54.14.
Other Saturday finishes for the Saints included a seventh in the 200 by Jay Thornhill in 22.48 and an eighth by Burnham in the 800 in 1:55.39. Fox finished 12 th in the mile, Ben Greenberg was 26 th in the 3000 and Funch finished 13 th and Joe Shehata 14 th in the 500 meter run.
Nick Perzanoski was 13 th in the long jump with a 6.44 meter jump and Jesus Ruiz was 15 th with a throw of 14.26 meters in the weight. . GRAMBO WINS ECAC SHOT TITLE Mar. 7: St. Lawrence University senior Geoff Grambo won the ECAC Division III indoor shot put championship and Dan Ramsey finished second in the 5000 meters as the Saint men’s track team is second after day one of the 2008 ECAC Division III Indoor Track championships on the banked oval at Harvard.
The Saints trailed only Tufts, 28-23 in a field of 35 scoring teams after the first day of competition.
The Saint Distance Medley Relay team of David Lloyd, John DeLago, Mark Burnham and Erik Donohoe finished fourth in 10:10.26 and met NCAA provisional qualifying standards. Grambo threw 16.32 meters (53-6.5) to win the shot put and Ramsey ran 14:57.64 in his second place finish in the 5000.
Other first-day finishes for the Saints included a 13 th in the 55 hurdles in 7.94 by Nick Perzanoski and a 10 th place finish in 1:33.51 by the 4x220 relay team.
