PERZANOSKI, GRAMBO LEAD SAINTS TO WIN IN SLU OPEN

Jan. 19: Senior Nick Perzanoski accounted for 24 points with two firsts and two seconds and classmate Geoff Grambo met NCAA provisional qualification standards in the shot put as the Saint men’s track team took the team title in the three-team SLU Open at the Newell Field House Saturday afternoon.

 

The Saints scored 149 points in the meet with Plattsburgh second with 98 and Oneonta third with 84. A maximum of two athletes per team could score in any single event.

 

Perzanoski, the defending NYSCTC indoor multi-event champion, won the 55 hurdles in 8.12 seconds, took the long jump with a 6.31 meter jump (20-8.5) and was second in the high jump (1.82 m, 5-11.5) and the 400 meters (53.70).

 

Grambo, who was Liberty League Field Performer of the Week, threw 15.55 meters (51-0.25) on his second throw of the shot put competition to meet the NCAA provisional standard and that throw stood as the winner in the meet. The senior thrower also finished third in the 35 pound weight with a 13.90 throw (45-7.25). Teammate Eric Jones threw a personal best by over a meter to win the weight throw with a heave of 16.24 meters (53-3.5).

 

Brandon Kenny, who was second in the 1000 and anchored the winning 4x800 relay, was named Liberty League co-Rookie of the Week.

 

Jay Thornhill joined Perzanoski as a double winner for the Saints as he won the 55 meters in 6.70 seconds and the 200 meters in 22.92. Other Saint event winners included Mark Burnham with a 4:29.45 mile; Terrance Fox, who ran 1:59.89 to win the 800; Dan Ramsey with a 8:48.46 3000 meters and David Lloyd led a sweep of the top three spots in the 1000 by the Saints, winning in 2:35.95 with Brandon Kenny second and Chris Funch third.

 

Kenny and Funch joined Matt Millard and Will Manning on the winning 4x800 relay team which ran 8:27.18 while the Saints were second by .04 in the 4x400 relay and finished third in the 4x200.

 

Joe Shehata finished second in the 500 in 1:08.81, Craig DiGiovanna was second in the 55 meters, Stephen Moore second in the pole vault, Geoff Millard was second in the 800 and Gabe McBride was second in the shot for other top finishes by the Saint men.

 

The Saints will host the eight-team St. Lawrence Invitational Saturday Jan. 26 beginning at 11 a.m. in their next meet.
