At The Hun School of Princeton
Gates was a tri-sport athlete, participating in tennis, soccer and hockey. The Pennington, NJ native found the majority of his success on the tennis courts, however, as Gates earned First Team All-League honors in 2006 and 2007, and was First Team All-State in 2006 as well. In his final season, Gates again landed on the All-State quad, this time on the Second Team, and he was the recipient of the school's "Coaches Award" for his efforts as well.
