SAINTS OPEN 2008 WITH 6-3 WIN. Jan. 14: St. Lawrence University’s men’s squash team opened the 2008 portion of its schedule with a 6-3 win at Middlebury on Monday as Nick Pearson came through with a key 3-2 win at four to help the Saints sweep matches one through five.
Pearson trailed Elliot Jia of Middlebury 2-0 after twin 9-6 losses in the first two games, but rallied to win the next three games, 9-2, 9-3, 9-6, remaining undefeated on the season at 7-0. Tyler Stout also had a highly competitive match for the Saints and came away with a key win at five, 3-1 over WIll Caroll. Carroll and Stout split games one and two by 10-8 scores before Stout put the match away with 9-3 and 9-5 wins.
Dan McElvaine won 3-0 at one to improve to 6-1 on the season, Alex Dodge was a 3-1 winner at two and also has just one loss in the first six matches and Scott Repath joined them at 6-1 with a 3-0 win at three.
Ben Ross moved up to six and played a marathon with Simon Keyes of Middlebury with Keyes eventually winning 3-2 with a 10-9 win in game five.
Tom Whelan won 3-0 at seven while Middlebury's Micah Wood turned back Nick Calandra 3-1 at eight and Will Piekos of Middlebury topped Pete Montesano 3-1 at nine.
The Saints return to action against Stanford at Yale and will also play Connecticut College, Tufts and Denison in matches Friday through Sunday in New Haven. |
