SAINTS IN 2008 CAMPAIGN

Apr. 28: St. Lawrence University Men’s Soccer Head Coach Bob Durocher has announced that juniors Emilio Coletta, Paul LaMarca and Ryan Moore will lead the Saints for the 2008 season in the team’s quest for their tenth appearance in eleven years at the NCAA Tournament.

 

Coletta (Montreal, QUE/Marianopolis) returns as a second year captain after leading the Saints to a 9-3-6 overall record and Liberty League regular season title, as well the championship game in the conference tournament. He had another impressive season for St. Lawrence, tallying a career-high 80 saves, and only allowing 14 goals in 2007, the lowest number of goals he's allowed in his career. Coletta had a .851 save percentage and 0.72 goals against average, earning him Liberty League honorable mention. He was also named Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week after he shutout Union (who was ranked 6th in the country at the time) and only allowed one goal versus Skidmore. The keeper had eight shutouts in his junior year and posted a 9-3-6 record. He was also named to the 2007 Liberty League All-Academic Team for his performance in the classroom and was named an NSCAA/adidas Regional All-American for his efforts on the field.

 

LaMarca (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain) led the Saints in 2007 in total points (17), goals (6), game-winning goals (2), assists (5), shots (44), and shots on goal (20). He scored at least one point in nine games, including five Liberty League contests, and had five games where he tallied multiple points for the Scarlet and Brown. He was named Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week on September 24th after tallying five points in the first weekend of conference play, and was named to the 2007 Liberty League All-Conference First Team for his outstanding performance this season. Other post-season accolades included being named to the D3Kicks.com All-Region Second Team, as well as being named an NSCAA/adidas Regional All-American.

 

Moore (Keene, NH/Keene) was only able to play in 13 of the 18 games this season due to illness. After he was unable to play for nearly a month, the midfielder came back for the Saints against Liberty League opponent Union College, where he netted the game-winning goal for the Saints. The following day, he assisted the game-tying goal against Skidmore. For his efforts, Moore was named to the Liberty League All-Conference Second Team.

 

Durocher also announced the annual team award recipients for the 2007 season:

Most Valuable Player: Paul LaMarca

Dana Hollingsworth Offensive Player of the Year: Paul LaMarca

Nick Hillary Defensive Player of the Year Award: Sean Charles (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills)

Matt Dennett Rookie of the Year: James Stewart (St. Davids, ONT/Sir Winston Churchill)

Most Improved Player Award: David Osorno (Elmhurst, NY/ St. John’s Prep)

Bob Goodwin Most Consistent Player Award: Emilio Coletta

Coaches Award: David Osorno

POSTSEASON ACCOLADE

Jan. 9: Junior midfielder Paul LaMarca, who led the St. Lawrence men’s team in total points in 2007, was named to the D3Kicks.com Northeast Regional Second Team after an impressive season with the Saints.

 

LaMarca (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain) accumulated six goals and five assists for his best season thus far in his collegiate career. The forward scored at least one point in nine games, including five conference contests, leading the Saints to a Liberty League regular season title and a spot in the conference tournament title game. He had five games where he tallied multiple points and netted two game winners against Elmira College and in overtime against Potsdam State. LaMarca also assisted two game-winning goals throughout the season.

 

In addition to his notable statistics for the 2007 campaign, LaMarca was named Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week after tallying five points in two games during the first weekend of conference play. He was named to the 2007 Liberty League All-Conference Team as a first team selection and was named an All-Region by the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America).

FOUR SAINTS NAMED 2007

REGIONAL ALL-AMERICANS

Jan. 4: Four members of the St. Lawrence University men’s soccer team were named to the 2007 NSCAA/adidas Regional All-America Team after leading the Saints to their second Liberty League regular season title as well as the Liberty League championship game.

 

Junior midfielder Paul LaMarca (left) (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain School) was named to the Second Team after leading St. Lawrence in total points (17), goals (6), game-winning goals (2), assists (5), shots (44), and shots on goal (20). He was named to the Liberty League All-Conference First Team for his contributions to the team during the 2007 season.

 

Seniors Mike Bobbie (Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth), Axel Galeano (Queens, NY/Brooklyn Friends) and junior Emilio Coletta (Montreal, QUE/Marianapolis College), all co-captains of the squad, were named to the Third Team for their efforts throughout the year.

 

In his last campaign for the Saints, Bobbie (right) continued to be one of the strongest defensemen for the Saints. The defender netted two goals and three assists for seven points in 2007, his best year in his collegiate career. Bobbie earned Liberty League Second Team honors in 2007.

 

Galeano (left) tallied three assists in his final year at St. Lawrence, and because of the impact he had on the Saints both in his senior year and in his career, the forward also earned conference honors and was a 2007 Liberty League First-Team All Conference selection.
