LONEGAN EARNS LEAGUE HONOR

Oct. 18: Chris Lonegan scored two goals against Clarkson on Saturday, including the game winner to lift St. Lawrence over the Golden Knights. His leadership in the front contributed to five Saint goals on Saturday.

For his efforts, Lonegan was awarded Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week honors. He is sharing the honor with Union's Casey Ftorek.

SAINTS TOP KNIGHTS IN SWAMP

Oct. 15: Week long rainy conditions created a quagmire at Clarkson Field as St. Lawrence downed the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team 5-1 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson, which was tied for third in the Liberty League standings prior to Saturday, dropped to 3-8-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play while St. Lawrence remained undefeated with a 3-0-2 mark in the Liberty League and moved to 5-5-2 overall.

The Golden Knights gained the upper hand early on in Saturday's contest when junior Justin Crowley scored his team-high fifth goal of the season on a direct kick from about 20 yards out in front of the penalty area at the 5:12 mark. Crowley shot a low liner that split the Saints' wall and found its way into the back of the net on Clarkson's first shot of the game. The Saints kept up pressure however and scored exactly 11 minutes later when Elliot Savitz connected on a header from just a few yards out on a cross from Nick Mangee. St. Lawrence then took the lead on a similar goal from Chris Lonegan, with Savitz providing the cross from 15 yards out near the end line.

St. Lawrence continued its attack early in the second half as Axel Galeano scored on a pass from Jason Koshi off a direct kick from about 20 yards out. The Saints would pick up two more goals in the final 18 minutes as James Merrill scored an unassisted goal at 72:39 with a low liner shot that deflected off a Clarkson defender in front and Lonegan added another goal a minute later with a chip shot from 10 yards away.

Clarkson goalkeeper David Hennessey was busy in net for the Knights, making 10 saves. Emilio Coletta made six stops for St. Lawrence in the first 81:45 before being relieved by Joey Webb, who didn't need to make a save over the final 8:15. St. Lawrence held a 22-9 advantage in shots through the game, including a 13-6 advantage in the first half. The Saints were also ahead in corner kicks with eight side attempts to Clarkson's two. The sloppy track created numerous slips and falls as six yellow cards were given in the second half.
