SAINTS DROP DECISION TO CORTLAND , 4-2

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Cody Healey scored the game-winning goal with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation and freshman Chris Ramos added an insurance goal in the 90th minute to lift the Cortland men's soccer team to a 4-2 win over St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The win was the Red Dragons' fifth straight and first over St. Lawrence since 2001 and improved their record to 5-1. The Saints dropped their fourth straight and fell to 2-4 with the loss.

Also adding goals for the Red Dragons were sophomore Eric Reinhardt and senior Brett Sarsfield. Freshman Peter Degere contributed two assists, and junior Dan Dunn added one assist. Senior goalie Ross Morelli made seven saves, including six in the second half, to earn his third win of the season.

St. Lawrence received goals from senior Steve Watson and junior Brendan Tougher, both off assists on set plays from senior Nick Mangee. Freshman Joey Webb stopped two shots.

The Saints controlled much of the early play and finally broke through with the game's first goal 13 minutes into the opening half. Mangee served a corner kick into the box where Watson drove a diving header past Morelli for a 1-0 lead. The Red Dragons answered in the 19th minute. Degere fed a pass to Reinhardt near the upper right corner of the box, and Reinhardt curled a 25-yard shot over Webb and into the upper left corner. Cortland took a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute. Sarsfield carried the ball down the right side of the box and beat Webb with a sharp-angled shot that went in off a St. Lawrence defender. Degere picked up his second assist on the score.

The Saints evened the game at 2-2 in the 61st minute. Mangee served a long ball off a free kick to the top of the box, and Tougher directed a header that bounced off the inside of the crossbar, straight down and just over the goal line. With each team pressing for the go-ahead goal, Dunn stole the ball from a St. Lawrence defender and broke in alone on Webb. Healey made a run to the right post and one-timed Dunn's cross into the open goal for the game winner in the 76th minute. As the Saints forced the action late in the game, Ramos dispossessed a St. Lawrence defender and made a 50-yard run capped off by a shot inside the right post with 29 seconds remaining on the clock.

The Saints outshot Cortland , 18-10, and held a decisive 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
