The Program ... Saints Lacrosse

2001 and 2002 ECAC Upstate Champions
The men's lacrosse team at St. Lawrence University has traditionally been one of the top teams in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association since the inception of the of the league in 1996.
The Saints made their third straight trip to the Easter College Athletic Conference championship game to complete a 12-3 season in 2003, their third straight 12-win season, and ended the year ranked 16th in the STX/USILA Coaches poll.
The Saints, who have gone 36-10 over the last three years, were nationally ranked throughout the year and upset NCAA semifinalist Cortland in the season opener. The Saints lost to Hamilton by a goal for a second time in the semifinals of the first UCAA lacrosse tournament.
Two players earned honorable mention All-America honors. Goaltender Stephen Salotti was accorded the honor for the third straight year while junior midfielder Peter Dolan was named for the first time. In addition, Salottie and senior Rob Russell were named to the North-South Senior All-Star game. Dolan, sophomore middie Alex Moore and defender John Loftus joined Salotti as first-team UCAA selections.

Senior goaltender Steve Salotti is a two-time Honorable Mention All America selection for the Saints. |
The Saints won the UCAA title 1999 and were second in the conference in 1998, 2001 and 2002. St. Lawrence has consistently made postseason appearances, earning ECAC Upstate Tournament appearances in 1999, 2001 and 2002.
Along with their league schedule, the Saints also have rivalries with other New York State teams including Elmira, Oswego, Plattsburgh and Potsdam. The team uses the spring break week to travel to Florida, and the Saints traditionally play against some of the top programs in the country.
The Saints play their home games on North Country Field, an Astroturf playing surface adjacent to Appleton Arena, the home of the men's and women's Division I hockey teams. Appleton Arena offers locker room space for both home and visiting lacrosse teams during the spring season.
The men's lacrosse season begins with preseason practices in February. While practices generally begin in Leithead Field House due to snow and cold weather, the ability to plow North Country Field allows the Saints to practice outside on their game field very early in the season. The Saint program also includes a non-traditional fall season which allows returners and newcomers to practice and scrimage in preparation for the spring season. |
