SANTORA WINS USILA AWARD, CARROLL AND SLAUSON ARE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAS
May 28: The post-season accolades continue for St. Lawrence University lacrosse players PJ Santora, Peter Carroll and Alex Slauson, all of the Class of 2009. Santora has been named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s Division III Specialty Player Award, while Carroll and Slauson earned USILA Academic All-America honors.
Santora, a three-time Liberty League First Team selection and a 2009 First Team All-America, is the third St. Lawrence lacrosse player to earn a USILA award. The Cos Cob, CT native joins Bill Simunek, who was the 1979 Midfielder of the Year, and John Fowler, the 1980 Goaltender of the Year.
“PJ (Santora) has been a special player for us since he arrived on campus back in 2005,” said St. Lawrence head coach Mike Mahoney. “Winning this honor continues to show how respected he is in the face-off ‘x’ and how important he was for our program.”
Meanwhile, Carroll and Slauson each earned a spot on the USILA Academic All-America 53-man roster. Players from Divisions I, II and III are represented on the Academic All-America team for both their athletic and academic prowess.
"It is certainly a tremendous honor for Peter (Carroll) and Alex (Slauson) to be recognized not only for their on-field success, but more importantly for academic achievement,” added Coach Mahoney. “They have earned an elite status with their hard work and dedication both on and off the field. We are very proud of their efforts."
The duo of Carroll and Slauson follow Ben Buskey ’08, who was the program’s lone Academic All-America last season.
