DOLAN NAMED TO NORTH-SOUTH SQUAD May 25: St. Lawrence University senior midfielder Pete Dolan has been named to the 2004 North roster for the annual North-South All Star Lacrosse Game to be played at Nazareth College Saturday, June 12 at noon. LOVELESS RECORDS FOUR GOALS AS SAINTS FALL TO CLARKSON IN UCAA TOURNAMENT May 7- Senior attack Tim Loveless had a Saint high four goals and one assist as St. Lawrence fell to nearby foes the Clarkson Golden Knights 13-9 in the semi-final round of the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament held on Friday evening at North Country Field. The Saints put the first score on the board when a shot from Josh Feine was deflected off Clarkson's goaltender at 5:25. Sean Pearce passed to Pat Duggan who tied the game with four seconds left in the quarter. Mike McKenna gave the Golden Knights the lead at 11:49 in the second quarter but Loveless responded for St. Lawrence to even the game once again. Pearce then scored two consecutive goals to put Clarkson ahead 4-2 with just over two minutes left to play in the half. Feine scored on an assist from Nick Mastine twenty seconds later but AJ Heiligman snuck one past Justin Demuth to keep the Golden Knights up by two at halftime. Andy Centauro fired one past Joe Zebrowski twenty six seconds into the third quarter and Loveless added another goal three minutes later to tie the game at five a piece. Pearce opened up the game when he connected from Patrick Ryan at 6:17 and then again less than a minute later. Pearce then completed a pass to Ryan who shot it in for a goal with 1:03 left in the third. Loveless scored an unassisted goal with less than a minute to play which brought the Saints to within three at 9-6. The Golden Knights scored the next three goals to make it a 12 -6 game. Mastine fired one into the net at 5:56 and John Quackenbush collected his third of the season at 4:34 to bring the Saints up 12-8. Loveless scored the last goal for the Saints at 3:17 to end the game. The Saints out shot Clarkson 39-22 and won 18 of 25 face-offs. Zebrowski had 11 saves for Clarkson while Demuth stopped four. Clarkson will travel to Rensselaer on Sunday for the Championship game at 1 p.m. Sean Pearce collected four goals and three assists as he led Clarkson University past COACHING STAFF AND SIX PLAYERS RECEIVE UCAA NODS May 7- Seventh-year Head Coach Mike Mahoney and assistants Pat Harrington, Chris Apblanalp and Kevin Kiley were named Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Coaching Staff of the Year. Together they have guided the Saints to an 11-2 regular season record and a perfect 6-0 mark in UCAA play. The Saints are ranked 11th nationally entering this weekend's UCAA tournament. Six other members of the Saints squad received UCAA nods, including senior attack Tim Loveless and junior midfielder Alex Moore, who were both named to the All-Conference First Team. Loveless is first on the Saints team in assists and points and second in scoring. He was named UCAA Player of the week twice and received honorable mention in the Face Off-Yearbook Division III All-American preseason poll. Loveless scored the tie breaker against Rensselaer with just six-tenths of a second left on the clock to remain undefeated in UCAA. Moore is second in the UCAA in goals per game, fifth in shots per game and fifth in points per game. He is tied on the team for most goals with 28 and is second with 41 total points. As a rookie, Andy Centauro is second on the team in assists, fifth in goals and sixth in total points. He joins senior Pete Dolan, who received honorable mention in the preseason poll, as All-Conference Second-Team midfielders. Dolan leads the team and conference in ground balls and is fourth on the team in goals and fifth in points. Sophomore Trip Bartlett and freshman Brian Crowley were both named to the All-Conference Second-Team as defensemen. Bartlett has started in 12 games and has 22 ground balls while Crowley has shown exceptional talent and has played significant time as a starting freshman. He leads the defense in ground balls. SAINTS TO HOST FIRST ROUND OF UCAA TOURNAMENT May 3- St. Lawrence University will host the fourth-seeded Clarkson University Golden Knights in the first round of the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Championship on Friday at 4 p.m. on North Country Field. Second-seed Rensselaer will host Hamilton College on Friday at 4 p.m. and the winners will play at the highest seed on Sunday, May 9 at 1 p.m. TWO SAINTS NAMED TO ACADEMIC TEAM
Included on the All-Academic team are senior Tim Barnhorst, who is majoring in Fine Arts and sophomore Shawn Mayo-Pike, who is studying Government. SAINTS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH 18-17 WIN OVER POTSDAM Apr. 28- Freshman attack Nick Mastine had a game high six goals and three assists as St. Lawrence edged out SUNY Potsdam 18-17 in a Wednesday night game to close out their regular season. Potsdam jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Alex Moore put the Saints on the board at the 11:43 mark of the first quarter. Josh Feine connected on a pass from John Quackenbush at 10:57 but Potsdam's Evan Cree snuck one past Justin Demuth to give the Bears a 4-2 advantage. Steven Lashomb scored just eight seconds in the second quarter to give the Bears a three goal lead. Mastine scored his first of the night with 1:28 down and Feine followed with another goal just seconds later to make it a one goal game at 5-4. Peter Dolan's goal at 7:58 tied the game and the Saints, who had an eight goal second quarter, scored the next five goals to boost them past their opponent. Raweras Mitchell sparked a 5-1 run for Potsdam but Quackenbush responded with his first goal of the season that sent the Saints on their own 5-1 run. The Saints held off a late fourth quarter surge by Potsdam to end the game with a one goal lead. Feine finished the game with four goals and Moore recorded three goals and one assist. Loveless had two goals and one assist while Andy Centauro and Quackenbush both had two assists. Harrison Rogers led the way for Potsdam with six goals and two assists. Chris Menei had three goals while Matt Hosmer and Lashomb had two. Demuth and Brendan Dooley combined to stop 13 for the Saints while Ryan Hanretty made 21 for the Bears. SAINTS SWEEP WEEKLY UCAA HONORS
Senior attack Tim Loveless (Fulton, NY) was named UCAA Offensive Performer of the Week as he scored three goals and one assist in the Saints 15-4 win over Vassar College. Earlier in the week he had two goals and two ground balls in an 8-4 win over Clarkson. Junior goalkeeper Brendan Dooley (Carthage, NY) was named the UCAA Defensive Player of the Week based on his performance in the Saints game against Vassar College. In that game Dooley made 8 saves while only allowing four goals. With the win his record is now 5-2. The Rookie of the Week honors went to freshman Justin Demuth (Jordan, NY). Demuth played all 60 minutes in the Saints win against Clarkson allowing only four goals while recording 15 saves. His record improved to 5-0 with the win. SAINTS REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN UCAA WITH WIN OVER VASSAR Apr. 24- Junior midfielder Alex Moore scored a game high four goals as the Saints defeated Vassar College 15-4 in their last regular season Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association league game at Prentiss Field. The Saints, who outshot Vassar 50-24, have an unblemished 6-0 UCAA record and are now 10-2 overall. Vassar falls to 3-10 and 0-6. Ranked 13th in the nation, the Saints have clinched first place in the UCAA and will host the fourth seed in the first round of the playoff's to be held on May 7 on North Country Field. Moore opened the scoring just 1:17 into the first quarter off a quick pass from Tim Loveless. Loveless then scored the next two goals to give the Saints an early 3-0 lead. Moore scored his second of the game with 11:46 left to play in the second quarter. Vassar's Steven Cataldo responded at 9:36 but Chris Hanbury scored just ten seconds later.Andy Centauro sparked a 9-0 Saint run with 2:27 left to play in the first half that sent the Saints into halftime with a 6-2 advantage. Vassar's Michael Littlefield made passes to Justin Schrager and Pat McAlpine for consecutive goals late into the fourth quarter. Evan Robins scored his second of the year at 12:37 to end the game. Centauro and Hanbury both had two goals for the Saints. Brendan Lynch and Nick Mastine both added one goal while John Quackenbush and Joe Vele recorded an assist. Brendan Dooley was in nets for the Saints and made eight saves while Will Widen made 21 in the losing effort. St. Lawrence will travel to Potsdam State on Wednesday April 28 for a 7 p.m. game time. LOVELESS, DOLAN RECORD TWO IN SAINTS 8-4 WIN OVER CLARKSON Apr. 21- Seniors Tim Loveless and Peter Dolan both recorded two goals for St. Lawrence University in an 8-4 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association win over neighboring Clarkson University on North Country Field Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Saints remain undefeated in UCAA play with a 5-0 conference record. They are 9-2 overall. Clarkson falls to 5-7 and 2-3. Alex Moore put the Saints on the board first with just 10 seconds left in the first quarter. Clarkson's Sean Pearce retaliated at 14:01 of the second quarter to even the score. Loveless, Dave Bromal and Dolan added goals to close out the first half and put the Saints up 4-1 heading into halftime. St. Lawrence dominated the third quarter as Dolan and Andy Centauro both fired goals past Clarkson's Joe Zebrowski. Josh Feine scored at the 9:15 mark of the fourth as the Saints enjoyed a 7-1 advantage. Patrick Ryan slipped one past Justin Demuth with 6:53 left to play. He then added another goal less than two minutes later and Dan Amedro connected on a pass from Pat Duggan with five seconds on the clock to end the game at 8-4. The Saints will play their last regular season conference game on Saturday when they travel to Vassar for a 2 p.m. game time. LOVELESS, DEMUTH EARN UCAA HONORS Apr. 19-Two members of the St. Lawrence University Mens Lacrosse team received Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association honors for their performances in Saturdays 11-10 win over Rensselaer. Senior attack Tim Loveless (Fulton, NY) was named UCAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week as he scored the game winning goal with six-tenths of a second remaining on the clock to break a 10-10 tie against RPI. With the win, the Saints took sole possession of first place in the UCAA and handed RPI their first conference loss. Goalkeeper Justin Demuth was named Rookie of the Week as he made 18 saves for the Saints and improved his record to 4-0 playing all 60 minutes Saturday. LOVELESS SCORES GAME WINNER AS SAINTS DEFEAT RPI 11-10 Apr.17-Senior attack Tim Loveless scored the game winning goal with less than one second remaining in the fourth quarter to break a 10-10 tie as St Lawrence University remained undefeated in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association and handed the Rensselaer Red Hawks their first conference loss. The Saints, ranked 15th in the nation, improve to 8-2 and 4-0 to take hold of first place in the UCAA standings while Rensselaer, ranked 20th, falls to 9-3 and 3-1. Nick Mastine, who had a game high four goals, put the Saints on the board first with just over six minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Rensselaer's Adam LoGiudice answered back with 2:02 left on the clock. The Saints outscored the Red Hawks 4-1 in the second quarter as Mastine and Josh Feine combined for four goals before Lucas Ruglis tallied the lone RPI goal at 3:56 mark. Mastine closed out the second quarter when he rocketed one past goalkeeper Ryan Michels with five seconds remaining and the Saints enjoyed a 5-2 halftime lead. Rensselaer had a second half comeback as they tied the Saints with four goals a piece and headed into the final quarter down by three at 9-6. The Red Hawks came on strong and applied pressure to the Saint defense in the fourth as they scored four goals all within 1:03 of each other to tie the game with 7:39 left to play. The two teams battled back and fourth until Mike Palombo's shot went wide. Alex Moore grabbed the ball and ran the length of the field and passed it to Loveless who hit the back of the net with six-tenths of a second remaining for the win. Andy Centauro and Moore each had two goals while Peter Dolan and Josh Feine both tallied one. LoGuidice had four goals for the Red Hawks while Ruglis, Chris Sherman, and Andrew Teichman all recorded two. Justin Demuth made 18 saves for St. Lawrence while Michels had 11 on the day. The Saints will play their last regular season home game on Wednesday, April 21 as they host Clarkson University at 3:30 p.m. SAINTS TO TAKE ON RENSSELAER THIS WEEKEND The St. Lawrence University Mens Lacrosse team will be hosting the Rensselaer Red Hawks this weekend in a battle for first place in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association. Both teams are undefeated in conference play. St. Lawrence is 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the UCAA while Rensselaer is 9-2 and 3-0. The Saints are ranked 15th in the nation while Rensselaer is 20th. The game will take place at 12 p.m. on North Country Field. SAINTS STAY UNDEFEATED IN UCAA WITH WIN OVER SKIDMORE Apr. 10- Tim Loveless collected three goals and three assists as the The 19th-ranked Saints took a 2-0 first quarter lead when Dave Bromall scored the first of his goals for the Saints at 7:52 of the first. Josh Feine made it 3-1 at 4:48 on his shot. The Thoroughbreds answered back when Tom Spinella pulled Skidmore to within one at 3-2 with 23:31 left to play in the second. The Saints scored the next six to open up a 9-2 lead. Nick Mastine and Feine each had two goals while Alex Moore and Andy Centauro had one. Brendan Dooley had 9 saves for the Saints. James deGorter kept the Thoroughbreds in the game with 17 saves. The Saints will return home on Saturday for a 12 p.m. game against Rensselaer. DEMUTH NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Apr. 6- Freshman goalie Justin Demuth was name the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Rookie of the Week in a 2-0 week for the Saints who are now ranked 19th in the latest USILA top 20 poll. Demuth played three quarters in the Saints 15-9 win over UCAA rivals the Hamilton Continentals and made all 12 saves for St. Lawrence while allowing only three goals. He has started one game and played in six for the Saints and has 45 saves on the season.
MOORE HAS SIX IN SAINTS 15-9 WIN OVER HAMILTON COLLEGE Apr. 3- Alex Moore scored six goals to lead St. Lawrence University to a 15-9 win against Hamilton College in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association men's lacrosse game at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 3. St. Lawrence (2-0 conference, 6-2 overall) has won five straight games. Hamilton (0-2, 3-4) has lost two consecutive games at home after winning 20 in a row from 2001 to the beginning of this season. Josh Feine added four goals and Peter Dolan chipped in three for the Saints. Justin Demuth relieved starting goalie Brendan Dooley at the start of the second quarter and allowed just three goals the rest of the game while making 12 saves. Jim Henry led the Continentals with two goals and an assist. George Earle, Jack Newton and Dan Geiger scored two goals each. Starting goalie Jason Mleczko made 10 saves before leaving the game late in the third quarter after allowing his 10th goal. Hamilton led 6-5 after the first quarter, but St. Lawrence roared back to score seven of the next eight goals and take a 12-7 lead with 11:40 left in the fourth quarter. Feine had three of the Saints' goals during the 7-1 run. The Saints will travel to Skidmore next Saturday for a 1:30 start time. LOVELESS LEADS SAINTS WITH FIVE IN 14-2 WIN OVER PLATTSBURGH Mar. 31- Senior attack Tim Loveless led St. Lawrence University with five goals and two assists in a convincing 14-2 win over Plattsburgh State on Wednesday night on North Country Field. The Saints improve their record to 5-2 while Plattsburgh falls to 1-5. The Saints came on strong in the first quarter as they outscored their opponent 6-1. St. Lawrence was able to apply pressure to Plattsburgh as they held them without a goal for the next two quarters and the Saints enjoyed an 11-1 advantage heading into the final quarter. Willi Lapinski, Brendan Lynch and Nick Mastine each scored before Plattsburgh's Jordan Thomson hit the final goal of the game at the 7:32 mark. Mastine had two goals and two assists, Josh Feine had two goals and one assist and Peter Dolan also had two goals. Lynch, Chris Hanbury and Lapinski each recorded one goal while Alex Moore, John Quackenbush and Brian Dunn tallied one assist a piece. The Saints will travel to Hamilton on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game. MASTINE NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Mar. 29: Freshman midfielder Nick Mastine was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Rookie of the Week based on his performances for the week of March 22-29. Mastine had a seven goal week as the Saints went 2-0 with wins over a 13-7 win over Oswego and a 13-4 win over UCAA rivals Union College. He leads the Saints in scoring with 13 goals and has 15 points on the season. MASTINE LEADS THE SAINTS WITH FOUR IN 13-4 WIN OVER UNION Mar. 27- Freshman midfielder Nick Mastine led the Saints with four goals and one assist in a lopsided 13-4 over Union College in their first Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association league game this season. The Saints improve to a 4-2 overall record and are 1-0 in the UCAA while Union falls to 1-5 and 0-1. Mastine connected on a pass from Josh Feine for the first goal of the game. From that point the Saints went on to score the next six goals. It wasn't until halfway through the second quarter that Union was able to get on the board with a shot from Andy West. Union managed to come back with two more to make the halftime score 7-3. Union's Scott Snyder gave his team one more goal before the Saints went on to score four in the third and two in fourth to close the game. Andy Centauro had three for the Saints. Alex Moore and Pete Dolan each recorded two goals while Feine and Brendan Lynch both tallied one. Justin Demuth was in the nets for the Saint and made13 saves. Bryan Bendjy and Dan Myerow also scored for Union as Will Tamm made 18 saves on the night. The Saints will next host Plattsburgh College on Wednesday night at 4 p.m. SAINTS DEBUT AT HOME WITH 13-7 WIN OVER OSWEGO Mar. 24- Junior midfielder Alex Moore and freshman attacker Nick Mastine each scored three goals as the St. Lawrence Saints defeated the Oswego State Lakers by the final score of 13-7 in their first home game at North Country Field in a Wednesday match up. The Saints, who outshot the Lakers 52-29 and had 61 ground balls compared to Oswegos 40, improve to a 3-2 record while the Lakers fall to 0-4. The Saints and Lakers each recorded one goal in the opening quarter but St. Lawrence pulled ahead and outscored them ten to three in the next two quarters before Oswego edged the Saints three to two in the fourth. Pete Dolan scored two goals and added an assist while Chris Hanbury also connected for two goals. Josh Feine and Tim Loveless each had one goal and two assists. Joe Vele had one goal and Andy Centauro tallied three assists. Scott Ferguson led the way for Oswego with three goals and an assist. Mike Malecki recorded two goals as Adam Phelps and Steve Tronovich each hit for one goal. The Saints will next host Union College at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.
SAINTS DEFEAT ROGER WILLIAMS 19-4 Mar. 19- The St. Lawrence University Mens Lacrosse (2-2) team defeated Roger Williams (1-3) by the final score of 19-4 to split their spring break games in Florida. The Saints dominated the game and were up 9-1 at the half before outscoring their opponent 10-3 in the final two quarters. Josh Feine led the way for the Saints with four goals and three assists. Tim Loveless recorded two goals and three assists and Alex Moore also had two goals with one assist. Nick Mastine and Pete Glass each had two goals and one assist while Brendan Lynch and Jordan Gottlieb each tallied two goals. Andy Centauro, Pete Dolan and Evan Robins each had one goal while Trevor Rainville recorded one assist. Brendan Dooley recorded four saves in the first half before Justin Demuth stopped six in the second. The Saints will return to action at home next Wednesday when they host Oswego at 4 p.m. SAINTS FALL TO BOWDOIN 14-10 Mar. 17- Senior attack Josh Feine paved the way for St. Lawrence with three goals and one assist in a 14-10 loss against Bowdoin in their first of two spring break matches. The Saints are now 1-2 overall while Bowdoin is 2-0. The Saints and the Polar Bears were even in the first half going 2-2 and 1-1 in the first two quarters. The Saints had the edge after the third quarter as the scoreboard read 9-7 but the Polar Bears were able to pull ahead in the fourth for a final four goal advantage. Pete Dolan and Andy Centauro each recorded two goals and one assist. Alex Moore tallied one goal and two assists while Pete Glass and Tim Loveless each had a goal. Brendan Lynch had one assist. Goalkeeper Brendan Dooley recorded 18 saves on the night. Junior attack Connor Fitzgerald led the Polar Bears with four goals and two assists. The Saints will face Roger Williams on Friday at 1 p.m. before returning home and will host Oswego next Wednesday night.
GOLDEN FLYERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED WITH 11-9 WIN OVER ST. LAWRENCE Mar. 13-St. Lawrence University won the second quarter 3-1 and tied Nazareth in the first and third but the Golden Flyers outscored the Saints 5-1 in the fourth quarter Saturday to rally for an 11-9 victory in men's lacrosse. SAINTS DOWN ELMIRA 13-4 Mar. 6-Junior goalkeeper Brendan Dooley and freshman Justin Demuth combined for 17 saves on 21 shots to help lead the Saints past Elmira College in a 13-4 season opener at Cornell University on Saturday afternoon. The Saints (1-0) dominated the first two quarters 7-1 and 4-2 and went 1-1 and 1-0 in the third and fourth quarters for a nine goal victory over the Soaring Eagles (0-1). Tim Loveless and Nick Mastine led St. Lawrence (1-0) with three goals a piece. Alex Moore tallied two goals and Pete Dolan had one goal and two assists. Josh Feine finished the game with two goals and two assists while Dave Bromall also recorded two goals. John Henry Quackenbush collected one assist. Dooley made 15 saves and Demuth stopped two shots while Elmiras goalie Kevin Welinsky had 21 saves on the day.
SAINTS GEAR UP FOR 2004 SEASON Feb. 24: Veteran St. Lawrence University Men's Lacrosse Coach Mike Mahoney is excited about his close knit 2004 team. Helping out in defense are Brian Crowley, J. J. Hearty and Brad Liston. Crowley, also a member of the St. Lawrence University Football Team, has made good strong impressions on the field while Hearty is a fast athlete and great defender and Liston enjoys a fast paced game. Returning players include attackman Tim Loveless, who was given honorable mention in the preseason All American poll. Other attackers include former Rookie of the Year and First Team All Conference Josh Feine and Evan Robins who had a big senior season at Guilford. Preseason All American Pete Dolan is healthy and expected to be an offensive leader at midfield. Alex Moore, who also received honorable mention in the preseason poll, had a breakout sophomore season and elevated his play. Chris Hanbury packs a defensive punch and Bryan Dunn has had an impressive preseason presence. Defensemen/midfielder Dave Bromell will return for his fourth year as a starter in the long pole position. Joining him are seniors Tim Barnhorst and John Quackenbush and sophomores Caleb Loftus and Matt Scrafford. Tripp Bartlett, who has had significant playing time in the past, will lead the newcomers in the defensive end. Freshman Harry Burg will also be a long pole while short sticks Lincoln Davie, Trevor Rainville and Shawn Mayo-Pike have been converted to defensive midfielders. The Saints will play their first game against Elmira at Cornell at 4 p.m. on Saturday March 6.

Jan. 20- Rob Russell, a May 2003 graduate of St. Lawrence University and member of the Saints lacrosse team, was drafted by the Bridegport Barrage of Major Leage Lacrosse in December. THREE SAINTS NAMED TO PRESEASON POLL Jan. 6: Three members of the St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team received preseason honors as picks for the Face-Off Yearbook's Division III All-Americans were released last month.
