SALOTTI RANKED IN LACROSSE GOALTENDING

St. Lawrence University sophomore lacrosse goalie Steve Salotti finished the year ranked 24th in the nation in both save percentage and goals against average as the NCAA released its final Division III men's lacrosse statistics.

Salotti, an honorable mention All America had a .625 save percentage and a 9.16 goals against average. The Saints were 28th nationally as a team in scoring defense and tied for 14th nationally in win percentage with a 12-4 record which included its first ECAC Tournament championship.

SALOTTI, DEHAAS NAMED ALL AMERICA

June 9 — St. Lawrence University sophomore goaltender Steve Salotti and senior defender Andrew DeHaas were named honorable mention All America in men's lacrosse and DeHaas was named a USILA Scholar All-America and participated in the North-South All Star game.

Salotti, a sophomore from Geneva, NY, backstopped the Saints to a 12-4 season which included the ECAC Upstate Lacrosse Championship. He was MVP of the ECAC tournament and finished the year with a 9.16 goals against average and a .625 save percentage. He was also selected second team All UCAA goaltender.

DeHaas, a senior from Manlius, NY, was a key to the Saint defense and a back-to-back first-team All UCAA choice. A government major, he qualified for the Scholar-All America team by maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and earning both honorable mention All America and his North-South All Star slot.

TURNER AND DeHAAS EARN
ECAC LACROSSE HONORS

June 4 — St. Lawrence University junior Stacy Turner and senior Andrew DeHaas each earned Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Upstate Lacrosse All-Star honors after spectacular seasons in 2001. Turner was named first team as an attack for the Saints women's team while DeHaas earned second-team honors as a defenseman.

Turner finished 12th in the nation in points, averaging 5.54 points per game, with 72 points on 58 goals and 14 assists. She was ninth in the nation in goal scoring with a 4.46 average. Turner was also named a first-team All-UCAA selection. The Saints finished the season at 7-6, bowing out in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association tournament quarterfinals to Ithaca.

DeHaas added second-team ECAC Division III Upstate Lacrosse All-Star honors on top of his first-team All-UCAA selection. The senior anchored the defense leading the Saints to a 12-4 record and the ECAC Upstate Lacrosse championship. He tallied two points on defense with a goal and an assist.

Sarah Gloo, a senior from Hamilton, was named the Player of the Year as she scored 65 points in 13 games and finished tenth in the nation averaging 4.23 goals per game. Nazareth senior Eric Goodberlet, was the men's Player of the Year for the 15-1 Golden Flyers, averaging 2.78 goals per game and 0.70 assists per contest.

SAINTS RALLY FOR ECAC UPSTATE
LACROSSE TITLE

May 13 Trailing 8-4 with three minutes gone in the fourth quarter, St. Lawrence University's men's lacrosse team exploded for five straight goals and went on to win the Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate Lacrosse Championship with a 9-8 win over Skidmore College at Hartwick on Sunday.

The Saints, who finished their season at 12-4, got three goals and an assist from freshman Josh Feine and a pair of goals from both Rob Russell and Jeff Overman en route their fifth straight win.

Steve Salotti came up with another huge game in goal for the Saints, making 20 saves while Skidmore's John Thornton had nine for the 9-6 Thoroughbreds. Salotti had 37 saves in the two tournament games and was named the tourney's Most Valuable Player.

St. Lawrence led 2-1 after one period as goals by Peter Blake and Peter Dolan sandwiched a score by Greg Hickman, who led Skidmore with three goals. The Thoroughbred then rattled off four straight goals to take a 5-2 halftime lead.

Russell's first of the game with 8:20 to go in the third period made it 5-3, but goals by Jonas Jeswald and Hickman made it 7-3 with 5:40 to go in the period. Feine then scored his first of the game to cut the lead to 7-4, but Jeswald's second made it 8-4 with three minutes gone in the final period.

Feine set up Overman's first of the game with ten minutes to play to cut it to 8-5 and the Saints scored twice in a span of 14 seconds, Russell with 8:58 to play and Feine with 8:44 to go to cut the lead to 8-7. Overman scored the equalizer from Dan Usaj with 4:32 to play and Tim Loveless set up Feine for the game winner with 42 seconds to play.

SAINTS IN FINAL GAME AFTER OVERTIME WIN OVER RIT

May 12 Sophomore Rob Russell scored two late goals to forge a tie and freshman Josh Fiene scored on the first possession of overtime to lift St. Lawrence University's men's lacrosse team to a 11-10 win over the Rochester Institute of Technology and into the championship game of the ECAC Upstate Lacrosse Championships at Hartwick on Saturday.

The Saints, now 11-4 overall, will play Skidmore, a 13-9 upset winner over top-seed Hartwick, in Sunday's 2 p.m. championship game. The Saints won their regular season game with Skidmore 14-9.

The Saints, who posted their first win over RIT since the mid-1980s, got five goals from Feine and three from Russell en route the victory.

RIT, which finished its season 7-7, led 10-8 with six minutes to play in regulation, but Russell scored his second of the game unassisted with 5:27 to go and tied it from Feine with 4:15 to play to make it a 10-10 game after regulation.

The Saints scooped up a loose ball after the faceoff to start the extra period and Feine scored his fifth of the game and 43rd of the season with just 36 seconds gone in the extra period to put the Saints in the title game.

The teams were tied 3-3 after one as Feine scored two first period goals and Russell one for the Saints and went up 6-4 at the half as John Henry Quackenbush gave the Saints their first lead with 10:56 to go in the second and Feine scored his third and fourth of the game in a span of less than two mintues. RIT outscored the Saints 3-1 in the third to as the teams were tied 7-7 heading into the final period.

The Saints took a 8-7 lead when Peter Dolan scored from Jeff Overman just 2:04 into the final period, but Sean Eldridge scored his fourth of the game for the Tigers with 4:40 gone to tie it again and goals by Chris Vallone and Jim Lavelle gave RIT a 10-8 lead with 6:06 to go before Russell brought the Saints back.

Sophomore goalie Steve Salotti had a big 18 save performance to backstop the Saints to the win while Chris Jones finished with 17 saves for the Tigers. RIT outsthot the Saints 51-30, but the Saints dominated in faceoffs, winning 16 of 25 and were two for six on man-up opportunities, killing off three of four RIT man advantages.

SAINTS WILL FACE RIT IN ECAC TOURNEY

May 7 The men's lacrosse team earned the number two seed and will face number three seeded RIT in the opening round of the ECAC Tournament on Saturday. The tournament will be hosted by Hartwick College, who received the number one seed. The Hawks will face Skidmore in the opening round and the winners of each game will face off in the Championship game on Sunday. The times of all three games will be announced later this week.

THREE SAINT PLAYERS MAKE ALL-ACADEMIC LIST

May 7 Three members of the men's lacrosse team met the criteria of having a minimum 3.2 grade point average and being significant contributors to their team to make the 2001 UCAA All-Academic list. Sophomores T.J. Landers and Dan Ritchie, as well as junior Michael Croker each received the honors.

SALOTTI, FEINE EARN UCAA
PLAYER OF WEEK HONORS

May 2 Saint sophomore Stephen Salotti was named the UCAA Goalie of the Week, while teammate Josh Feine was named the UCAA Rookie of the Week for their efforts against Plattsburgh and Potsdam. Both players are repeat honorees to the list.

Salotti amassed 36 saves in the two victories. He allowed just seven goals on 30 shots in the 11-7 win over Plattsburgh. He stopped 13 shots in the 12-11 edging of Potsdam.

Feine contributed a goal and an assist against Plattsburgh. He led the Saints with four goals in the Potsdam game.

SAINTS BATTLE FOR WIN OVER POTSDAM

April 28 The men's lacrosse team battled to a 12-11 win over cross-town rival Potsdam on Saturday night. The Saints improve to 10-4 overall, while the Bears fall to 5-4 overall.

Potsdam jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game, with back-to-back goals from Eric Lehman, and held a 6-4 advantage at halftime.

Jed Hammill made it 7-4 Potsdam to open the second half, but Josh Feine scored for the Saints before the Bears got another goal. Jeff Overman then sparked a five goal run by St. Lawrence, putting the Saints on top 10-8.

The Bears scored three unanswered goals of their own, to make it 11-10 Potsdam, but with 1:06 left to play, Rob Russell tied the game and Chris Hanbury sealed the win with the final two goals of regulation.

Feine finished the game with four goals. Russell finished with one goal and three assists. Hanbury ended up with three goals. Overman, Dan Usaj, Peter Dolan and Tim Loveless each scored once. Craig Zajac, Andy DeHaas and Tim Barnhorst each collected an assist. Goalie Stephen Salotti made 13 saves in the net.

Hammill led Potsdam with five goals. Lehman and Josh Hickey each added two goals, while Rex Ratliff picked up two assists. Terry Roehm made 10 saves in goal.

RUSSELL LEADS SAINTS PAST PLATTSBURGH

April 25 Rob Russell contributed three goals and three assists to lead the Saints to a
11-7 win over host Plattsburgh on Tuesday. St. Lawrence improves to 9-4 overall with the victory.

The Saints scored six unanswered goals to open the game. They held on to the lead for the remainder of regulation.

Jeff Overman chipped in two goals and two assists. Josh Feine collected a goal and an assist. Chris Hanbury, Tim Loveless, Dave DeGroff, Dan Ritchie and Peter Blake each scored once, while Dan Usaj and Mike Palladino each collected an assist.

Mike Komereck led Plattsburgh with one goal and three assists.

Chris Hopps made 22 saves for the Cardinals, while Saint goalie Stephen Salotti came up with 23 saves.

The Saints will host Potsdam in a 7:00 p.m. game this Saturday, in their final game of the regular season.

SAINTS BOUNCE BACK WITH WIN OVER SKIDMORE

April 21 The Saints avenged their loss to Union with a 14-9 win over host Skidmore on Saturday. They improve to 8-4 overall (4-2 UCAA) with the conference victory. The Thoroughbreds fall to 5-5 overall (2-2 UCAA) with the loss.

St. Lawrence doubled Skidmore's first-half scoring, holding a 6-3 lead at halftime. They out-scored the Thoroughbreds 8-6 in the second half of play, despite being out-shot 43-40 at the end of regulation.

Saint goalie Stephen Salotti tallied 17 saves in the game. Offensively, ECAC Player of the Week Jeff Overman led the way with five goals and one assist. Rob Russell added three goals and four assists. Josh Feine chipped in two goals, while Dan Usaj, Timmy Barnhorst, Chris Hanbury and Peter Hemstead each scored once.

Chris Bovina led Skidmore with three goals and one assist. Goalie John Thornton stopped 16 shots on goal.

The Saints will play a 3:30 p.m. game at Plattsburgh on Tuesday.

UNION EDGES SAINTS

April 20 Host Union College scored six unanswered goals and held a 8-2 lead at hafltime en route to edging the Saints by a score of 12-10 on Friday. The Saints fall to 7-4 overall (3-2 UCAA) with the loss. Union improves to 6-3 overall (2-1 UCAA).

The Saints made a run in the second half, outscoring the Dutchmen 8-4. Unfortunately, time expired on the clock before they could regain the ground they lost in the opening minutes of regulation.

Jeff Schiff led Union with three goals and one assist. Teammate Pat Forest collected 12 saves in goal.

ECAC Player of the Week Jeff Overman notched three goals and one assist to lead St. Lawrence. Rob Russell contributed one goal and three assists, while Tim Loveless and Josh Feine each added two goals and one assist. Dan Usaj chipped in a goal and an assist and Chris Hanbury scored once. Stephen Salotti stopped 17 shots on goal.

The Saints will play at Skidmore tomorrow afternoon.

OVERMAN NAMED ECAC PLAYER OF WEEK

April 19 St. Lawrence senior Jeff Overman, who was honored as the UCAA Player of the Week last week, has also been named the ECAC Player of the Week. Overman had seven goals, three assists and 10 ground balls in a 3-0 week for the Saints. He collected three goals and one assist in a 12-9 win over Clarkson; three goals and two assists in a 15-8 victory over nationally-ranked Rensselaer; and one goal in a 13-3 win over Vassar.

SAINTS MONOPOLIZE UCAA PLAYERS
OF WEEK LIST; MOVE UP IN NATIONAL POLL

April 17 The men's lacrosse team formed a monopoly of this week's UCAA conference Players of the Week list, as Jeff Overman was named the Player of the Week, Stephen Salotti was named the Goalie of the Week and Josh Feine was named the Rookie of the Week.

In addition, the Saints moved up in the USILA Division III national poll. They are now ranked 19th nationally, after defeating previously 11th-ranked Rensselaer on Friday. Rensselaer is now ranked 14th on the poll.

Overman kicked off the week with three goals and one assist in a 12-9 win over arch-rival Clarkson. He notched three goals and two assists to lead the Saints to a 15-8 win over Rensselaer and scored one goal in a 13-3 win over Vassar.

Salotti amassed 44 saves in the Saints' 3-0 week. He collected 16 saves against Clarkson, 15 saves against Rensselaer and 13 saves against Vassar. His goals against average for the week was 6.86.

Feine, who has been named the Rookie of the Week once prior this season, scored two goals and assisted on one against Clarkson. He notched four goals against Rensselaer and collected three goals and two assists against Vassar.

SAINTS DOMINATE VASSAR

April 14 — The St. Lawrence men's lacrosse team eased to a 13-3 victory over Vassar on Saturday to improve to 7-3 overall (3-1 UCAA) on the season. Vassar, meanwhile, falls to 2-8 overall (0-4 UCAA).

Vassar scored the first two goals of the game, but St. Lawrence took a timeout and re-grouped to score the next five in a row, going into halftime with a 5-2 lead.

The Saints would allow just one second-half goal by Vassar, and chalked up eight more for themselves to make the final score 13-3.

Rob Russell led the Saints with four goals and three assists. Josh Feine added three goals and two assists. Peter Dolan scored two goals, while Chris Hanbury notched a goal and an assist. Jeff Overman, Doug Padden and Dan Ritchie recorded one goal each, while Peter Blake, Brad Darrah and Mike Palladino each picked up an assist.

Thomas Boardman, Kevin Krieser and Christopher St. John scored for Vassar.

In the net, Stephen Salotti made 13 saves for the Saints, while Vassar's Michael Hamrah stopped 22 shots.

SAINTS USE LATE-GAME RALLY TO DOWN RENSSELAER

April 13 The St. Lawrence men's lacrosse team scored six goals in the final six minutes of regulation to post a 15-8 UCAA conference win over Rensselaer on Friday. Rensselaer, who entered the game unbeaten in conference play, falls to 5-3 overall (3-1 UCAA). The Saints improve to 6-3 overall (2-1 UCAA).

St. Lawrence's Josh Feine drew first blood, scoring on a pass from Jeff Overman to open the game. The lead would change hands two times in the first half of play, but the Saints would remain on top 7-5 at halftime.

Peter Dolan opened the second half scoring for St. Lawrence, but Rensselaer's Lucas Ruglis answered with back-to-back goals to cut the Saint lead to a single goal. The two teams then exchanged goals before Feine sparked the six-goal run by the Saints to wrap up the game.

Feine finished with four goals, while Overman added three goals and two assists. Rob Russell chipped in two goals and three assists. Dolan finished with two goals and two assists. Tim Loveless scored two goals, while Peter Blake and Dave Bromall each scored once for the Saints.

Ruglis led the Red Hawks with four goals. Tom Terzulli dished out three assists, while Ben Terzulli collected a goal and an assist. Peter Staunton, Nick Childs and Pat Blount each scored one goal.

Stephen Salotti stopped 15 goals in the net for St. Lawrence. Matthew Moog made 10 saves for the Red Hawks, while teammate Joe Garvey picked up four saves.

The Saints will host Vassar at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.

SAINTS SNAP CLARKSON WIN STREAK

April 10 The St. Lawrence men's lacrosse team posted a 12-9 win over arch-rival Clarkson on Tuesday to snap a five-game win streak by the Golden Knights. The Saints improve to 5-3 overall (1-1 UCAA), while the Golden Knights fall to 5-1 overall (1-1 UCAA).

St. Lawrence dominated the opening period, scoring the first three goals of regulation while holding the Golden Knights scoreless. The Saints added two more goals in the second period before Clarkson finally got on the scoreboard. After a three-goal run by the Golden Knights, Andy DeHaas would give the Saints a final goal of the half with just six seconds left on the clock. St. Lawrence held a 6-3 halftime advantage.

Clarkson opened the second half with back-to-back goals to bring the score to 6-5, but the Saints answered with another three-goal run. They held on through the final period for a 12-9 victory.

Jeff Overman led the Saints with three goals and an assist. Josh Feine and Chris Hanbury each collected two goals and an assist. DeHaas, Dan Usaj, Peter Blake, Tim Loveless and Peter Dolan each chipped in one goal, while Rob Russell picked up two assists.

Defensively, Jamil Downey held Clarkson's Nick Masterpole without a single goal. Stephen Salotti made 16 saves in goal for the Saints, 10 of which came in the opening half.

Sean Pearce, Ryan Bodkin and Mike Burgess each scored two goals to lead Clarkson. Goalie David Jay collected eight saves.

SAINTS LOSE CONFERENCE OPENER AT HAMILTON

April 6 The Saints had a three-game winning streak snapped when host Hamilton posted a 13-8 win in both teams' UCAA conference opener on Friday. Hamilton improves to 3-2 overall, while the Saints fall to 4-3 overall.

Josh Feine opened the scoring on a pass from Rob Russell to give the Saints a 1-0 lead, but Hamilton responded with three consecutive goals to go up 3-1. Feine then fed Dan Usaj to close the gap to 3-2, but Hamilton's Harry Kristoforatos answered with an unassisted goal.

The Saints then went on a three-goal run, but Hamilton would score the final goal of the half to even the score at 5-5 at intermission.

Hamilton scored the first three goals of the second half and held on for good, allowing just three more goals by St. Lawrence.

Matt Silvero led all scorers with five goals for Hamilton. Scott Mensi added one goal and three assists. Goalie Brad Wolcott made 15 saves for the Continentals.

Feine finished the game with two goals and two assists. Jeff Overman added three goals. Peter Dolan scored twice and Usaj once. Russell finished with the one assist, while Chris Hanbury, David DeGroff and John Henry Quackenbush each assisted on one goal. Stephen Salotti collected seven saves in the net.

The Saints will host arch-rival Clarkson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

FEINE NAMED UCAA ROOKIE OF WEEK;
SAINTS MOVE UP IN NATIONAL POLL

April 3 Saint attackman Josh Feine was named the UCAA Rookie of the Week for his efforts in a 11-6 win over nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall last week.

After scoring the game-winning goal with six seconds left on the clock against Oswego the week prior, Feine continued his offensive punch with four goals against Franklin & Marshall. Feine is currently the Saints' second leading scorer with 17 goals and two assists. He has played in all six games for the Saints.

St. Lawrence was recently ranked 20th nationally by the USILA Coaches poll. They are now 4-2 overall and will play at Hamilton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

SAINTS DEFEAT NATIONALLY RANKED
FRANKLIN & MARSHALL

March 31 St. Lawrence attackmen Josh Feine and Rob Russell scored four goals each to lead the Saints to a 11-6 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Franklin & Marshall entered the contest ranked 13th in the nation. The Saints imrove to 4-2 overall with the upset victory.

St. Lawrence jumped out to an early lead and allowed just one goal by Franklin & Marshall in the opening half of play. The Saints held a 8-1 halftime advantage.

They maintained their momentum in the second half, scoring the opening two goals before Franklin & Marshall finally made a late game run. It would be too little, too late however, as the Saints held on for the win.

Jeff Overman chipped in two goals and three assists for St. Lawrence. Chris Hanbury added a goal and two assists, while Tim Loveless and John Henry Quackenbush each assisted on one play.

John Ivory led Franklin & Marshall with two goals.

Stephen Salotti racked up 16 saves for St. Lawrence. Teammate Garrett Cutler stopped two shots on goal.

SAINTS COME FROM BEHIND TO EDGE OSWEGO

March 24 St. Lawrence attackman Josh Feine scored with just six seconds left in regulation to give the Saints a 14-13 come-from-behind victory over visiting Oswego on Saturday. The Saints improve to 3-2 overall with the win, while the Lakers fall to 1-2 on the season.

Oswego jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, before Dave Bromall finally got St. Lawrence on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal midway through the first half. The two teams then exchanged goals and found themselves deadlocked at 6-6 with under a minute to go in the half.

Oswego's Steve Eck would give the Lakers a 7-6 halftime advantage however, scoring on a pass from Chris McNulty with 42 seconds left on the clock.

The Lakers went on a 5-1 run to start the second half, making it 12-7 with 11:23 remaining in the game. But St. Lawrence's Dan Usaj sparked a six goal run, all of which were unanswered by Oswego, as the Saints took their first lead of the game.

With 18 seconds left in regulation, Oswego's Scott Ferguson scored the game-tying goal that would appear to send the two teams into overtime. The Saints won the face-off, however, and Bromall picked up a ground ball just in time to feed Feine on the right side of the goal for the game-winner.

Usaj led the Saints with five goals and one assist. Feine finished the game with three goals. Bromall scored two goals to go along with his game-winning assist. Rob Russell scored one goal and dished out three assists. Tim Loveless chipped in a goal and an assist, while Dan Ritchie and Jeff Overman each scored once.

Ferguson had four goals and one assist for the Lakers. Jason Hawthorne chipped in three goals and three assists.

Stephen Salotti came up with 11 saves for St. Lawrence, while Keith Vanlderstine stopped 19 shots in goal for Oswego.

SAINTS TAKE SPLIT IN FLORIDA

March 19 The men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-11 loss to Wesleyan, but bounced back to post a 10-6 win over Conn. College in Florida last week. The Saints are now 2-2 overall and will host Oswego College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Josh Feine led the Saints with four goals and two assists against Wesleyan. Jeff Overman added three goals and two assists. Rob Russell chipped in a goal and an assist, while Chris Hanbury picked up one goal. Stephen Salotti stopped 24 shots on goal for the Saints.

Hanbury had three goals and an assist to lead the way against Conn. College. Russell notched two goals and two assists. Feine scored two goals, while Overman and Tim Loveless each went one and one. David Bromall scored one goal and Dave DeGroff picked up an assist. Salotti made 10 saves in goal.

SAINTS DOWN ELMIRA 15-7

March 10Rob Russell led the Saints with two goals and three assists as they defeated Elmira 15-7 to improve to 1-1 on the young 2001 lacrosse season. Stephen Salotti made 14 saves in goal and John Henry Quackenbush had one.

Jeff Overman was the top goal scorer with three goals while David DeGroff and Jamil Downey each netted two goals for St. Lawrence.

The Saints' next game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14, as they take on Wesleyan during their spring trip in Florida.

SAINTS KICK OFF 2001 SEASON AT HARTWICK

March 3 The Saints suffered an 11-7 loss in their season opener at Hartwick and start the 2001 season at 0-1.

Hartwick got on the board first and led the Saints 7-3 at halftime. Both teams matched each other's four goals in the second half, making the final 11-7 Hartwick.

Hartwick's Ethan Poole led all scorers with three goals and two assists. Ross Pino added two goals and one assist.

The Saints were led by Rob Russell and Josh Feine, who each notched three goals. Jeff Overman added a goal, while Chris Hanbury, Peter Dolan and Greg Boyer each picked up an assist.

Stephen Salotti, who played all 60:00 in goal for the Saints, finished the game with 11 saves.
