LUCAS MOORE NAMED TO NORTH-SOUTH ALL STAR GAME St. Lawrence University senior midfielder Lucas Moore, the Saints' leading scorer with 39 goals and seven assists this season, has been named a member of the North team for the North-South All Star lacrosse game. Moore, a first team All-UCAA selection and a UCAA All-Academic team member, scored 51 goals and had 20 assists for the Saints in the last two seasons.
SIX SAINT MEMBERS NAMED TO UCAA ALL CONFERENCE TEAM The UCAA released the 2000 All Conference team on Tuesday and six Saint members were among those honored. Midfielder Lucas Moore and Defenseman Andrew DeHaas received First Team honors. Moore, a senior captain, led the Saints in scoring with 39 goals and seven assists, while DeHaas, a junior captain, headed the Saint defense. Junior attackman Jeff Overman was named to the Second Team. Overman was the Saints' second leading scorer with 26 goals and 16 assists. Attackman Spencer Jones, defenseman Jamil Downey and goalie Stephen Salotti were each named to the Honorable Mention list. Jones, a senior captain, scored 24 goals and collected 12 assists for the Saints. Downey, a junior, played a key defensive role for the Saints, while freshman Salotti recorded 253 saves playing in all fourteen games. SAINTS MAKE LATE RALLY, BUT FALL TO BEARS IN OVERTIME In their final game of the regular season, the Saints bowed to host Potsdam College after a second half rally that would force the Bears into overtime. The Saints trailed 6-2 at halftime, but outscored Potsdam 9-5 in second half action to send the game into overtime. Bear attackman Keith Hue scored just seven seconds into the overtime period to give Potsdam a 12-11 win. The Saints took a 1-0 lead on Peter Blake's unassisted goal just 56 seconds into regulation. The Bears responded with a 3-0 run, until Rob Russell scored on a pass from Spencer Jones to make it 3-2. Potsdam then went on another 3-0 run to hold a 6-2 halftime advantage. Lucas Moore opened the second half scoring on a pass from Blake. The Saints would allow one more Potsdam goal before Moore added three unanswered goals in a 1:00 time span, cutting the lead to 7-6. Josh Hickey put an end to that run with back-to-back goals of his own, putting the Bears back up 9-6. Jeff Overman then collected back-to-back goals for the Saints, both assisted by Jones, to again make it a one-goal game. Geoff Eliopoulos notched his third goal of the game for Potsdam just before Moore collected his fifth and sixth of the day to tie the game at 10-10. Jeff Overman's goal gave the Saints an 11-10 advantage with just 1:28 left in regulation, but Brian Austin scored with 36 seconds on the clock to force the overtime period. The Bears won the face off and Hue's long range shot was good just seven seconds into overtime to give the Bears a 12-11 win. Moore finished the game with six goals. Overman added three goals and two assists, while Jones assisted on four goals. Blake finished with one goal and two assists, while Russell added one goal. Stephen Salotti made 19 saves in goal for the Saints, including 12 in the first half. The Saints finish regular season play at 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the UCAA conference. SAINTS CAPTURE WIN OVER PLATTSBURGH In their final home game of the regular season, the Saints posted a 9-4 win over Plattsburgh to improve to 6-7 overall. They remain 2-3 in UCAA conference play. Both teams went without a goal until the 9:56 mark of the opening quarter, when Rob Russell scored on a pass from Spencer Jones. Midway through the second quarter, Chris Burke tied the game with his unassisted goal. Russell's second goal of the game was followed by Jones' first and gave St. Lawrence a Russell finished the game with three goals and one assist to lead all scorers. Jones added two goals and one assist, while Lucas Moore and Mike Palladino each scored twice. Jeff Overman collected one assist for the Saints. Stephen Salotti made nine saves in goal. Burke led Plattsburgh with two goals, while Dan Kalberer and Dan Dean added one goal each. Chris Hopps finished the game with 14 saves for Plattsburgh. CLARKSON POSTS 11-7 WIN OVER SAINTS In a game that was originally scheduled for earlier this month, host and arch-rival Clarkson University posted an 11-7 win over the Saints. The conference loss drops the Saint record to 2-3 in UCAA play and 5-7 overall. The Golden Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening 15:00 of play and extended that lead to 6-0 early in the second quarter. The Saints rallied for two goals to make it 6-2 at halftime, but could not catch up in the remainder of regulation. Clarkson held on for a win to snap an 11 game losing streak in their final contest of the regular season. Nick Masterpole led all scorers with three goals and two assists for Clarkson. Teammate Shaun Felix added three goals for the Golden Knights. Jeff Overman, Spencer Jones and Lucas Moore each collected two goals and one assist to lead the Saints. Rob Russell assisted on three goals, while David DeGroff scored once. Stephen Salotti stopped 15 shots on goal for the Saints, who will host Plattsburgh tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. SAINTS EDGED BY SKIDMORE IN CONFERENCE MATCH-UP The men's lacrosse team suffered another conference loss on Saturday, this time to Skidmore College. The Thoroughbreds edged out the Saints by a final score of 8-7. The game was tied 4-4 at halftime and 6-6 at the end of the third quarter. Skidmore's Jonas Jeswald scored on a rebound with just 1:55 to play to give the Thoroughbreds an extra goal in the fourth. Spencer Jones led the Saints with three goals and one assist. Jeff Overman added one goal and one assist. Mike Palladino, Lucas Moore and Rob Russell each scored once, while David DeGroff, Peter Blake and Craig Zajac each picked up an assist. Stephen Salotti had 21 saves for the Saints, who are now 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the UCAA conference. NATIONALLY RANKED RENSSELAER DOWNS SAINTS Rensselaer, currently ranked 12th in the nation, handed the Saints their first conference loss of the season on Friday, posting a 24-10 victory. With the loss, the Saints fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the UCAA. The Red Hawks, who held a 11-4 halftime lead, were led by twin brothers Ben and Tom Terzulli. Ben notched seven goals and seven assists to lead all scorers. Tom, the nation's leading scorer, collected two goals and dished out four assists to total 68 points on the season. The Saints were led by Spencer Jones, who scored three times and assisted on two goals. Lucas Moore notched four goals, while Rob Russell collecyed two. Craig Zajac and Jason Collopy each scored once. Jeff Overman totaled two assists, while Andrew DeHaas added one. Stephen Salotti stopped 20 shots on goal. The Saints will play at Skidmore tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. SAINTS FALL TO MIDDLEBURY The Saints suffered a 19-2 loss to host Middlebury College in Tuesday's non-conference game. Middlebury, ranked fourth in the latest national poll, improves to 8-1 overall with the win, while the Saints drop to 5-4 overall. The Panthers scored the first seven goals of the game and held a 12-1 lead over the Saints at halftime. They outshot St. Lawrence 64-12 and had a 16-6 advantage in face-offs. Peter Blake and Lucas Moore were the only players to score for the Saints. Jeff Overman assisted on both goals. Saint goalie Stephen Salotti recorded 21 saves in 50:00 of play. Teammate Ryan Gaebel notched three saves in the remaining 10:00. SAINTS EDGE HAMILTON FOR The men's lacrosse team picked up a second straight conference victory by edging visiting Hamilton College 10-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the UCAA with the win. Hamilton falls to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the UCAA. Brad Schwalm put Hamilton on the board first with his unassisted goal at the 20:57 mark of the first half. Lucas Moore took possession of the ball after a Saint time out and broke three defenders before beating Hamilton goalie Brad Wolcott to the back of the net to tie the game. Matt Silverio responded for the Continentals at the 24:13 mark, to put Hamilton back up by one goal. One minute later, Jeff Overman scored on a pass from Rob Russell to again tie the game and spark a three goal run for the Saints, with Spencer Jones and Moore notching the next two goals repectively. Schwalm brought Hamilton back to within one goal with 8:50 left in the half, but Russell made it 5-3 Saints just 4:26 later. Matt Green would score the first of his two goals with just 39 seconds left in the half, to cut the Saint advantage to 5-4 going into halftime. Four minutes into the second half, Silverio scooped up a loose ball in front of Saint goalie Stephen Salotti and tied the game at 5-5. Mike Palladino's long range goal put the Saints back on top and Keith Jones made it a two goal lead with 22:34 left in regulation. Sean Lackaye answered for the Continentals one minute later, but Moore notched his third and final goal of the game with 13:42 to go to make it 8-6 St. Lawrence. Matt Green's goal cut the Saint lead to 8-7. Overman and Jones then each collected their second goal of the game in a 39 second time span to put the Saints up three goals; their largest lead of the game with 7:32 left to play. Silverio gave the Continentals hope for an overtime period, by scoring back-to-back goals with 2:27 and 1:26 left in regulation to bring the score to 10-9. But the Saints gained control of the ball and let the time expire to pick up their second conference victory. Both goalies had a solid performance in the net. Salotti collected 20 saves for the Saints, while Wolcott finished the game with 23 saves for Hamilton. SAINTS CLAIM OVERTIME VICTORY IN CONFERENCE OPENER The Saint men's lacrosse team needed a sudden death overtime period to fight off visiting Union College in their UCAA conferece opener on Friday afternoon. The Saints pulled off a 7-6 victory to improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Saint attackman Lucas Moore opened the scoring on a pass from David DeGroff early in the first quarter. Matt Murphy answered for Union, scooping up a loose ball in front of the St. Lawrence goal and firing it into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Rob Russell produced a goal for the Saints in the exact same situation with 7:05 left in the first quarter to make it 2-1 St. Lawrence. Russell set up teammate Peter Blake just 1:15 later to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage. Union's Scott Dutcher scored the only goal of the second quarter, as both teams went scoreless for 11:08. Union nearly tied the game with 43 seconds left in the half, but Saint goalie Stephen Salotti's save at point blank range secured a 3-2 halftime lead for St. Lawrence. Russell picked up his second goal of the game 2:09 into the second half, as DeGroff collected his second assist. Teammate Keith Jones made it 5-2 just 1:59 later, scoring the first goal of his collegiate career for the Saints. Nicholas Balascio cut the Saint lead to just two goals, scoring on a pass from Russel Kerbel with just 9:34 left in regulation. Balascio notched a consecutive goal 1:14 later to bring Union to within one goal, but Spencer Jones responded just 16 seconds later to again give the Saints a two-goal advantage. Union's Kurt Kimball, who assisted on Balascio's second goal, then scored back-to-back goals in a span of 21 seconds to tie the game and ultimately force an overtime period. Both team's exchanged possession several times before Jeff Overman scored his only goal of the game 1:22 into the overtime period to give the Saints a 7-6 win. Salotti finished the game with 16 saves for the Saints, including 10 in the first half of play. Union goalie Patrick Forrest stopped eight shots on goal. Union is now 3-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Saints will host Hamilton tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CLARKSON GAME RESCHEDULED The Saints were originally scheduled to play arch-rival Clarkson University today, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. That game has been postponed due to poor field conditions. The game will be re-scheduled for a later date. The Hawks, ranked 12th in the most recent USILA Division III lacrosse poll, improve to 5-2 with the win. Hartwick jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in regulation, until Saint attackman Jeff Overman scored on a pass from Peter Blake to make it 2-1. The Hawks would then hold St. Lawrence scoreless for the remainder of the half, notching three more goals to go up 5-1 at halftime. Hawk midfielder Nick Luzzi sparked a three goal Hartwick run less than one minute into the second half of play, increasing the lead to 8-1. Peter Blake responded for the Saints, with a man-up goal on a pass from senior captain Lucas Moore. Moore scored the next goal and three others in the final 10:00 of regulation to lead a 5-2 late game run for the Saints, but it was not enough as the time expired making the final score 11-7 in favor of the Hawks. Moore finished the game with four goals and an assist. Blake scored two goals and assisted on one, while Jeff Overman and Spencer Jones each notched one goal for the Saints. Ben Clark and Mike Palladino each collected an assist. Mike Tumulo led the Hawks with three goals and two assists. Ross Pino and Ethan Poole each added three goals, while Luzzi, Brett Raboy and Garrett Cree each scored one goal for Hartwick. Ryan Maloney and Ben Blakeslee each collected an assist. Brett Jacobson stopped 13 shots for Hartwick, while Saint goalie Stephen Salotti finished the game with 11 saves. The Saints are now 3-3 overall. Saints Hand Amherst Its First Loss, 10-6
The Saints improved to 3-2 on the season, outscoring 3-1 Amherst Jeff Overman had three goals and an assist, Lucas Moore two goals and two assists and Rob Russell contributed a goal and an assist for the Saints. Sam Altman had two goals and an assist for Amherst, which got a 16 save performance from Corey Simonson. Amherst had outscored its opposition 55-8 in a 3-0 start before being shut down by Salotti and the Saint defense. The Saints will host Hartwick College in their North Country Field home opener Wednesday at 4 p.m. Oswego Remains Unbeaten with Win Over Saints The Oswego men's lacrosse team posted a 19-11 victory over visiting St. Lawrence on Saturday to remain unbeaten on the 2000 season. The Lakers jumped out to a 7-2 first quarter lead, but the Saints closed that gap to just one goal at halftime by not allowing Oswego to score in the second quarter of play. Oswego then outscored the Saints 4-2 and 8-3 respectively in the third and fourth quarters. Matt Clos led all scorers with four goals and one assist for the Lakers. Teammate Kevin Scanlon added three goals and an assist to help improve the Laker overall record to a perfect 3-0. The Saints, who held a 22-9 advantage in face-offs, were led by senior captain Lucas Moore's three goals. Jeff Overman and Trevor McNiven each collected two goals, with Overman adding an assist. Mike Palladino added one goal and two assists, while Rob Russell added one goal and one assist. Doug Padden also scored for the Saints, while Craig Zajac set up one goal. Freshman goalie Stephen Salotti made 13 saves in 60 minutes of play for the Saints, who are now 2-2 on the season. The Saints will travel to Amherst-New Cannan on April 1st for a 2:00 p.m. game. Saints 2-1 After Win Over Keuka The Saints posted a 12-9 win over host Keuka College on Wednesday, improving their overall record to 2-1. The Saints were led by captain Lucas Moore, who scored five goals and assisted on one. Teammate Rob Russell chipped in a goal and set up four others in the win. Saints Notch First Victory The Saints earned their first victory of the 2000 season with a 14-7 win over the University of Scranton on Saturday. Attackman Rob Russell led the Saints with five goals and four assists. Attackman Jeff Overman added three goals and four assists for the Saints, while Middie Lucas Moore chipped in two goals and one assists. Attackman Spencer Jones and Middie Mike Palladino each contributed one goal and one assist. Middie Peter Blake and Defenseman Andy Dehaas scored one goal a piece. Freshman goalie Stephen Salotti made 17 saves in his first collegiate victory for the Saints. Bart Farrell led Scranton with two goals and two assists. Now 1-1, the Saints will face Keuka College on Wednesday. Elmira Edges Saints in Season Opener
The Saints scored the first four goals of Saturday's season opener against Elmira, but Elmira answered with nine consecutive goals and held on for a 15-13 victory. Elmira, who led the Saints 9-5 at halftime, had a 19-13 advantage in face-offs and a 64-23 advantage in ground balls. The Saints rallied for eight goals in the fourth quarter of regulation. They were led by senior attackman Spencer Jones, who scored four goals and assisted on two. Junior attackman Jeff Overman also contributed four goals for the Saints. Freshman attackman Rob Russell had a goal and a team-leading four assists. Senior middie Lucas Moore chipped in three goals, while freshman middie Mike Palladino added one. Freshman goalie Stephen Salotti stopped 10 first half shots and 12 second half shots to total 22 saves for the Saints. Now 0-1, the Saints will face Scranton next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Liverpool High School.
