VASSAR TOPS SLU, 68-53 Feb. 5: The St. Lawrence men’s basketball team lost to Vassar this afternoon at home 68-53 to fall to 5-15 on the year, 3-6 in conference. With the win, Vassar improves to 11-8 on the year, 4-5 in the Liberty League. The score went back and forth for the first nine minutes of play, but Vassar took control and ended the first half up by 14. By the end of 20 minutes of play, Vassar’s Lawrence Avitabile had scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. He would finish with 16 points and 14 boards on the night. At the half, Aaron Marshall had scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. He finished with 14 points. The score at the half was in favor of Vassar, 31-17. The second half was more of the same. Vassar led by as many as 28 points, and St. Lawrence never got within 10. Tyler Shaver finished with 9 points, and made 2 three pointers. For Vassar, Judson Winton ended with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. He shot 6-12 from the floor including 2 three pointers. The Saints play at home on Tuesday against Clarkson at 8:00 pm. SULLIVAN’S 26 POINTS LEAD SAINTS TO 79-69 WIN OVER RPI Feb. 4: Keith Sullivan led the St. Lawrence men’s basketball team to a 79-69 win over RPI tonight in Burkman Gymnasium. His 26 points and 7 total rebounds led the Saints to their 3 rd conference win of the year. Sullivan also contributed 6 assists, hit 6 three pointers, and shot 6 of 7 from the line. With the win, SLU improves to 5-14 on the year, 3-5 in conference. RPI falls to 11-8 overall, and 4-4 in the Liberty League. The Saints fell behind by as many as 14 in the first half, but went on 7-0 run with less than 3 minutes left to cut the lead to 28-32 in favor of RPI. At the half, SLU only trailed by 1, and the score was 35-36. Before the second half, Sullivan had 12 points, and had hit 3 threes. St. Lawrence took over the lead with 17:52 remaining and would not give it back. They were up by as many as 10 three separate times in the second half, and would finish the game that way. For the Saints, Aaron Marshall has 17 points and 8 boards. He shot 6 of 7 from the floor and 5-8 from the line. Matt Blue had 16 points, and 5 assists. He contributed 3 three pointers and shot 7-8 from the stripe. The Saints shot over 51% from the floor, and better than 46% from behind the arc on the night. For RPI, Paris Moore had 16 points and 7 rebounds. He also added 2 assists. Tom Schneider scored 10 points, shooting 4 of 7 from the floor, and grabbed 8 rebounds. SLU faces off against Vassar tomorrow afternoon at home at 4:00 pm. SAINTS LOSE HARD FOUGHT GAME TO POTSDAM, 76-63 Feb. 1: The Potsdam Bears defeated St. Lawrence 76-63 Tuesday night. to improve to 17-1 while SLU drops to 4-14. St. Lawrence led by 9 at the half, but the Bears rallied to come out on top in the second half. St. Lawrence was led by Aaron Marshall with 23 points on 9-16 shooting. He ended the night with 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Keith Sullivan finished with 12 points. Freshman Tyler Shaver also scored 11 points. Senior guard Junior Clayton led the Bears in scoring with 17 points, just 2 shy of 1,000 for his career. Jim Connelly came off the bench and scored 16 points, while Eldon Harris added 14 for the Bears. The Bears shot 47% from the field tonight and 51% from beyond the arc. This was the first game in recent years that has been televised live on Time Warner Sports. The Saints are back in action this Friday against RPI at 8:00 pm.
