MARSHALL, DELMONICO EARN LIBERTY LEAGUE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK HONORS Nov. 30: Aaron Marshall and Pat Delmonico were named Liberty League forward and guard of the week, respectively, for their efforts in last weekend's games. Marshall had two double-doubles in as many games to start the season for the Saints. He scored 38 points against Wisconsin, Superior and 35 against Clarkson to help SLU earn the split. Marshall also recorded 18 total rebounds against Wisconsin, Superior and 11 against Clarkson. Delmonico scored 19 points against Wisconsin, Superior and 18 against Clarkson last weekend. He also had 4 assists in each game. Delmonico grabbed 8 rebounds and went 4 of 6 from the 3-pt line against Clarkson. SAINTS HOLD OFF KNIGHTS 94-87 IN HOLIDAY INN INVITATIONAL Rochester, NY – Aaron Marshal led the Saints with his second double-double of the young season as St. Lawrence denied the Clarkson Golden Knights a third-place showing in the Holiday Inn Airport Invitational Sunday afternoon with a 94-87 finish. Marshall scored 35 points and pulled in 11 rebounds in the win. The Saints improved to 1-1 on the season while the Golden Knights dropped to 1-4 overall with their third straight loss while. St. Lawrence opens its home schedule against Ithaca on Friday, December 10 at 8:00 . The Saints led by as many as 13 late in the second half, but the Knights rallied back to cut the advantage to only four with 1:31 remaining. After a 3-pointer from Chet Truskowski put Clarkson within three with only a half minute remaining, but the Knights were forced to foul and Tyler Wright nailed his two free throws to extend the Saints lead and preserve the win. Marshall led four Saints in double figures Sunday afternoon. Pat Delmonico had 18 points and eight rebounds. Matt Blue and Keith Sullivan chipped in 14 and 11 points respectively. Blue led St. Lawrence with five assists. The Saints made 56 percent of their shots from the field while Clarkson shot just 39 percent from the floor for the game. St. Lawrence gave up 48 rebounds to the Knights, including 24 for Clarkson offensively. SAINTS DROP OPENER 88-84 TO WISCONSIN-SUPERIOR Nov. 27: The St. Lawrence University men’s basketball team (0-1) dropped its season opener 88-84 to Wisconsin-Superior at the Holiday Inn Airport Invitational in Rochester, N.Y. Saturday night. Aaron Marshall led the Saints with a double-double, scoring 38 points and pulling in 18 rebounds. St. Lawrence went into half-time with a 44-39 lead, but was outscored by UW-Superior 49-40 in the second half. Keith Sullivan nailed a three-point shot with three seconds left to cut the lead to 87-84 but then the Saints were forced to foul and Marc Rothschadl made his first free throw to extend the lead to 88-84. UW-Superior stormed back from a 77-68 deficit to take the lead at 79-77 with 52 seconds to play in the game. UW-Superior was able to keep the Saints at bay and hold on for the win. Three Saints scored in double-figures for St. Lawrence. Marshall led with 38, followed by Pat Delmonico with 19 points and Keith Sullivan with 13 points and six assists. Marshall was 17-of-24 from the field and 4-of-9 from the charity stripe. He tied the tournament record for rebounds (18) and set a new tournament record with 17 FGM. St. Lawrence shot 56.9% from the field and was 13-of-21 from the free throw line (61.9%). UW-Superior shot 42.0% from the field and 63.6% from the line. The Saints will play in the third-place game on Sunday at noon.
