DELMONICO EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK STATUS
Against Hobart, Delmonico shot 10-14 from the field, and 4-5 from three-point range for 27 points. Against Hamilton, he shot 4-8 from the three-point arc, and 7-12 from the field for 18 points.
Jan. 15: Despite an impressive first half, the Saints could not hold on to beat Hamilton at home today, and lost 91-78. SLU fell to 3-8 overall, 1-1 in the Liberty League. With the win, Hamilton advances to 7-5 overall, 2-1 in conference. Matt Blue started the game for the Saints with a three-pointer. Hamilton was able to tie the game at 5 with 17:41 remaining in the first half. Quickly thereafter, the Continentals would take their only lead of the half, going ahead 8-5. Pat Delmonico tied the score with a 3 pointer, then the Saints jumped out ahead of Hamilton and ended the first half 14 points ahead with a score of 46-32. In the first half, the Saints shot 70% from the floor, and 54% from behind the arc. In the second half, SLU maintained a lead until there was only 5:46 left, when Tsanki Ngobeni made a lay-up to tie the score. The Saints would not lead for the remainder of the game, and the Continental lead only grew until time ran out. Aaron Marshall led Saint scorers with 21 and added 6 rebounds. Blue and Delmonico each scored 18 in the loss. For Hamilton, Nick Jones led all scorers with 23, and went 10 of 15 from the field. Tsanki Ngobeni scored 18, and shot 8 of 10 from the field. The Saints will square off against Plattsburgh at home at 8:00 pm on Tuesday. Plattsburgh entered today’s game against New Paltz with a record of 7-4. DELMONICO’S 27 HELP SAINTS EDGE HOBART, 71-68 Jan. 14: The St. Lawrence men’s basketball team beat Hobart tonight 71-68 to open Liberty League conference play. With the win, the Saints move to 3-7 on the year, 1-0 in conference. The Statesmen stand at 4-6 on the year, 1-1 in the Liberty League. The Saints dominated Hobart for the majority of the game, but at the end, the Statesmen made a run to come within a shot of tying the contest. St. Lawrence had the lead the entire game, breaking away to as much as a 17 point lead with just under 2 minutes to play in the first half. The Saints were leading at the half 42-27. Pat Delmonico scored 27 points on the night to lead all scorers, going 10-14 from the floor, 4-5 from behind the arc, and 3-5 from the stripe. Aaron Marshall scored 17 points for the Saints and contributed 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. Keith Sullivan scored 16 on the night, going 4 of 8 from three-point territory. He also added 2 steals. Also notable, freshman Tyler Wright contributed 6 boards and 7 assists. For the Statesmen, Joe Flacke led in scoring with 17, and contributed 5 rebounds. Mike Mastro led all rebounders with 15. The Saints will take on Hamilton tomorrow at home at 4:00 pm in their second Liberty League match-up of the year. Hamilton will enter tomorrow’s contest 6-5 on the year, 1-1 in conference.
